Bleeding 4.6 SOHC Valve Lash Adjusters and Installing Cam Followers

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I bleed down the lash adjusters and install the camshaft followers on a 4.6 SOHC, the process will be the same on a 5.4 SOHC. The bleeding process takes about 45 minutes to do all 16. Installing the cam followers can be a test of patients as well. Make sure to not hit the valve on the top of the piston when putting the followers in

Even new adjusters need to be bled out? Shouldn’t they be soaked and filled instead?

Hey great video! Good to know when I go in to inspect the valve train components when I do my valve cover gaskets! I noticed there are a set of BBK headers on that engine. I was also looking into getting a pair....question... did you go with the stainless/chrome ones or are those the silver ceramic headers? Im guessing that the ceramic would hold up to corrosion better? Also I have replaced the manifolds on each side from either cracking or leaking at the gasket. When I get the BBK headers I am going to re-torque them at a set mileage or get the locking higher grade bolts. Not sure what gaskets to go with but I want the best so I have a leak free exhaust for many years. Your opinion would be greatly appreciated since you seem like a professional on these 2v Triton engines! Thanks.

Thank you. I do not like to use chrome plated headers. They seem to discolor and flake way to fast. I usually use ceramic coated but stainless steel is good too. I have used both graphite and multi-layer steel gaskets and they both work good with Stage-8 locking header bolts. I started using Stage-8 many years ago and recommend them on all header installs.

I'm working on a 97 Mustang 4.6 trying to replace the valve seals is it possible to use the Spring compress tool and not remove the cams in the car?

It is possible but not easy, especially in a DOHC engine. You will need to hold the valves up with compressed air or some other method.

Yes you can change the valve seals without removing the cams but you will need to remove the camshaft caps (one at a time) and you will need the tool to compress the valve springs
