Blast out for Mackerel Sea Fishing Seaford
Спорт
With the Winds and water conditions not conducive for Lure fishing i head to Seaford to see if i can at least find some clearer water.
Its late July and i am yet to catch a mackerel from the Beach. In this video we consider a few methods for catching mackerel from the shore. Plus i do my best to make the most of things.

Firstly, Safety, Please don't do as i do and fish these types of jettys , One bad slip and your in the water. Despite growing up in the 80s I appreciate the world has moved on and i fully recommend a PFD. Here you are just as likely to catch and be in safety standing well back from the shoreline on the Beach.
Remember there are more humane ways to land mackerel as pointed out in the video.Single hook lures really help us appreciate the mackerels speed and power. Sabiki type rigs more effective but when snagged, like today can make the whole rig set up a mess. This is also true when using braid. So i'd use mono when possible.
I may earn a small Commission from some of these Links but i will always be honest about the gear i use and it wont cost you more. It really helps the channel too with everything going back in to make better videos.

Thank you so much for sharing once again, I really like your vid's. I live on the Sunshine Coast in Australia and love fishing. I caught the bug and learnt the basics fishing in Hastings where I grew up, so your posts make me feel very nostalgic! Also some of your tips I find very useful, with the types of fishing that I do here in Oz

@@SaltwaterAngler Ha ha yes! But the fishing is pretty good too, getting into the lure fishing, especially soft plastics. Love the bass though, caught my biggest down at bulverhythe one stormy morning on an incoming tide, after digging lugworm for the bait, would have been about 8lb
Where you was fishing was the very first place i caught a sea fish , a tiny ling . I went to school in seaford 😊
Well done Matt, nice location & a lovely lot of mackerel. I haven't caught any yet this year, I usually hire a liitle boat from a chap in Devon, but the weather has been so poor this year he hasn't had many chances to let his boats out. Hopefully things will improve, for his sake and mine! Enjoyed your last couple of vids very much, particularly the cheap-vs-expensive lures, really interesting and very helpful. Top marks to you sir.

Never seen anyone spin for mackeral with a grip lead before.😅😅😅. I use a heavier lure as a weight so you have a chance of a bass on that which is quite effective. Tends to sink slower so you can retrieve slowly or sit higher in the water.
@SaltwaterAngler

Yep grip leads are great! Create more of a fizz in the water ! Alan Yates told me that in 1989. Did you watch the part in the video where I talked about using a lure as weight ? 😅😅😅

Great update Matt. Some really good sized Mackerel there. I did hear a report about 10 days ago that a big shoal of Mackerel were in here, but that's the only report I've heard this year. No idea why, but don't seem to have had much time for KZread this year either. Stay safe & well - Dave. 🎣🎣👍👍

@@SaltwaterAngler Have just booked 3 separate weeks off work, to lure fish for bass at my favourite marks in East Devon, August, September and October, so hopefully should be guaranteed some decent action.
Love that mark. Fishing at Seaford in summer is tricky as the beach fills up with swimmers, paddle-boarders, dogs and other annoyances. Lots of fluff chuckers will turn up after this vid.. 🤣😂 I prefer catching mackerel on small metals, so much fun. You can easily get 70 yards on a 21g dennet superspratt. Thank you for the video's Matt - feeding the need that cant be physically fulfilled. 🎣🎣 Going Cornwall soon.

well boys fished pembrey beach on february thursday the 24th, high tide 18.40. 7.1. started fishing the tide out till low tide and fished it in, bait lug and razor clam and mackerel. using a two up rig with 4, 0 hooks, second rod small hooks 2.0 for flatty fish, 3 and a half bass on the pully rig on the second rod 3 flatty, one just under a pound the second 3 and a haif, the last on just over 2 pound plus put all fish back, so boys get down to pembrey beach because the bass are coming in and the flatty fish are to :) good luck boys
I can recall days on Brighton Marina float fishing mackerel. The float never cocked just went straight down time and time again. After about an hour had to stop for a rest. They all went back apart from the big ones. You would be lucky to see 6 these days - not fished there once so far!

Tried to fish for Mackerel off Holyhead breakwater on Anglesey quite a few times with lures and small feathers these last few months and they still haven't turned up here yet.. but it's not all about catching, it is all in the art of trying and being out there giving it a go. Had a dozen Mackerel on Friday 21st Jul from Aberystwyth just South of the harbour and Stone Breakwater. Was pretty rough sea with waves, but saw the Gulls bobbing in and some whitebait splashes so thought I would give it a go, did not stay around for long. Caught on home made rig using small luminous eels and shrimps instead of feathers, also good for Pollack off the end of Stone Jetty mentioned above.

@@SaltwaterAngler hope so Matt!
Bit of a novice for a beach rod so may sound daft. Do you use a tippet length off the end of your line for a beach rod?? I do have braided line but unsure what setup I need. Have had a beach rod for some time but always end up out flyfishing, stick with what I've done for decades
@SaltwaterAngler
11 ай бұрын
Yes, called a leader.A tapered leader much better, similar advantages to your fly fishing tippet .20 ft worth though ! On occasion I fish braid of50-60lb straight through-pros and cons

Hi Matt this Seaford fishing video made me to start fishing in Seaford too. Thank you for uploading your videos. I just have some questions. So you are using Sabiki rig for Mackerel and than you switched to float using the same rod. How do you do it? Have you got your float rig ready and you just use clips to switch it on the main line with the leader line? Or you don t use leader line at all while using the float?
@SaltwaterAngler
10 ай бұрын
Great welcome! I will do a video to explain this. However its easiest to have a length of florocarbon ready with a hook that your clip on after tying the float on. However sepperate rod best especially using live mackerel as bait
ive caught 9 mackerel at seaford so far this year in two visits.

tryed burry port lighthouse,spinning for mackerel no luck high tide was at 9.00pm a 8.7 ht.just as the sun was going down dead :( then tryed pwll of the point a just by the sand bank for bass and flat fish, dropped a pulley rig with sort crab and lug, high tide was at 13.09 a 5.7 on a friday a lovey sunny day not a bite :( then tryed fishing just down the side of loughor bridge on a saturday the 9th, high tide was at 14.53 a 5.6 ht. fished there with rag and lug and on the next rod sort crab for bass coming up loughor, had no bites on the lug and rag but two bites on the sort crab after that just went dead :(

Should your main line be thinner or thicker than the leader line? Can somebody advise please.
@SaltwaterAngler

The main line should be thinner than the leader. For example I use for general beach fishing; 15lb (0.31mm) Main line And a tapered Leader that is 15lb where it joins the main line to 60lb where you tie the rig on.
