DESCRIPTION
When the BL8800 Pro phone came out with true FLIR thermal imaging, I just had to order it and try it out. I've had the original BV8800 IR night vision phone for awhile and have been very pleased with all its features and capabilities. The 4G call and data on my BV8800 has been great with T-Mobile generating data speeds of 35 MBps Download and 15 MBps Upload. With my SIM in the new 5G BL8800 Pro, I'm getting 61 MBps Down / 8 MBps Up. By comparison my wired Spectrum data rate is 49 MBps Down / 10 MBps Up. Also, I can HotSpot these data rates to my computer from either phone, if needed, taking advantage of the liquid cooled high capacity batteries in these flagship Blackview phones!
There are lots of other specs for both phones that you should really check out. I love the waterproofing, rugged build, and long battery life, but I really bought them for the unique cameras that you just can’t get from Apple, Samsung, or most anyone else. On the BL8800 there is an IR night view camera along with an IR diode to light up the near environment so you can actually see everything clearly in absolute darkness. You can easily augment the camera diode if you need more IR light to see further by picking up a specialized 850nm IR flashlight. Amazon has a bunch of them, and I’ve put a link to a tiny pocket flashlight along with the product links above.
The BL8800 Pro phone exchanges the IR camera and diode for a true FLIR camera and a special 5MP terrain imaging camera. That extra camera provides a subtle line art overlay on thermal images so you can figure out where the thermal changes are showing up. You’ll get a good idea of the layered images captured by this unique camera set in today’s video.
All in all, these phones are great, and, though not smartwatches, are some sweet tech worth knowing about, which is why I added this video to our smartwatch channel. The identical shell design on both phones is top notch. It’s easy to hold and handle, and I love the Android 11 implementation which offers lots of controls over what you can do with the buttons on the side or swipes on the screen (capabilities removed in Android 12 by the way).

    Is there a model that has both the IR Night Vision and the Thermal Imaging? What a Sophie's choice having to choose between the two with these models.

    The 8380 mAh battery backup is nice. I also like the fact that they have integrated a Mediatek chipset.

    I wonder why the camera would be on if the phone is on standby. I was going to get the bl9900 pro, I need the thermal camera to replace a flir module that I use on a retired phone but trying to figure out what can be done with the IR version

    I think the integration of the thermal imaging and the night vision camera setup enhances the appeal of this Blackview smartphone considerably.

    I wonder can i put simcard on android watches like lemfo lem 15 and use as hotsopt , do these watches have hotspot ? Please make tutorial on connect watch hotspot to other device to use in watch internet to other devices

  • @SWT

    @SWT

    Yep, definitely can be used for hotspotting (is that a word?). A few concerns though, the watch will get really warm passing that much data back and forth in a confined space, so check the heat. Set it on something metal to act as a heat sink if you can. Don't expect it to last long in that mode either. Hotspotting uses tons of energy. Consider connecting your watch to a charger while in hotspot mode to slow the power load on the battery. Some watches will take the feed from the external power, while others strictly pull from the battery. If the battery is feeding the power load AND charging at the same time, really check the watch temperature. Point your BL8800 Pro at it often (see how I brought us back on topic?) and take regular temperature readings.

    Really is cool! I found an odd hotspot under my driveway which, at night, glows white hot in the BL8800 Pro images. Turning on the thermometer mode it registers over 90 degrees F while the surrounding area is in the low 80s. I'll be doing deeper research on that find soon. Oddly, it's in the area where I've seen orbs move about with my IR security camera. Looking forward to exploring that aspect with my Blackview IR camera phone, too.

    They can go far with their development. Just like ZTE Axon 40 Ultra

  • @SWT

    @SWT

    Yes, exactly! The ZTE's under the screen selfie camera is quite interesting, and can only get better with time. I remember the first under the screen fingerprint sensor, and now that's on practically half the phones made, some optical, some ultrasonic, and some still unknown. I'm still baffled about that flashing under the screen light on the OnePlus 7T that was easily seen with the BL8800 IR camera. I've examined the screen with a magnifying glass in that area and can't see any pixel differences. Yet, there it is, flashing away, especially when the screen is off! I thought it might be a sensor to detect when you wave your hand over the phone to turn it on, but this device doesn't have that feature from what I can tell. If anybody really knows what it is, please share! I keep the phone turned over now that I know it's there.

    @@SWT I saw the video and I had my doubts there are a lot of things that we don't know and I remember I had a Nexus 6 that I used for 3 years i didn't know there was a possibility to root the phone and activate the notification LED. I did my research and was able to figure out that the developers hid the notification letter due to it being useless for the user because they had developed a possibility when you pick the phone it automatically turn on to show notifications.

    I know I'm late to the party but... the night vision thing. Doesn't it have, you know, a flashlight? Like literally every other smartphone...? I guess check IR sources could come in handy sometimes but why else would anyone ever need the IR camera...
