As a refrigeration mechanic I can use a thermal camera to look for refrigerate leaks so if it not useful for you it doesn't mean it is not good for any one. Please do more research

Thermal imaging is the real key item for me. I work on large broadcast live events. Great big temporary power systems and tons of cable and distribution gear. The ability to thermally inspect is a huge time saver. Also, a great phone for running remote control for Lighting and Audio consoles.... Lasts for ages and puts up with abuse. Great consumer phone? Not so much. But for those who need a killer work phone, it's awesome

The thermal imaging is not a gimmick. If you are using it for just fun then yes it is wasted. It is more for outdoors, but manly work environment that would use. Like me in the automotive industry or my buddy in the HVAC business.

I have the bv8800 and it was run over by a Woolworths truck yesterday.. Still works !

So ill just pile on what I've seen other commenters say. As a firefighter we get dispatched out to fires all the time and the if theres smoke visible but no fire we usually use a thermal to track down where the heat is. Now with that being said, i dont know that the resolution would be as good as my T.I.C. (thermal imaging camera) in the fire truck, or that I would be using the phone in the extreme heat that a fully involved fire would subject the phone to. But overhauling or checking for hot spots i could totally see this being a valuable asset!

There are so many uses for a FLIR besides what your immediate assessment of it's value implies... Way more than AC or electrical work. Drop something? A FLIR will show anything you drop on the ground up lit like a candle if it's a different temperature than the ground. Leaky roofs and windows, balancing carbs on your motorcycle, finding misfires, detecting intruders in the dark, or even seeing where they stood if they've left or hidden. Hunting feral hogs or anything else? They light up like candles from far far away. Unbind your mind dude. Just because you can't think of a use doesn't mean there isn't one. It only means you think you know more than you actually do.

I'm a scientist and I use the FLIR camera pretty often... not a gimmick if you actually have applications for it.

Disagree with you regarding the usefulness of thermal imaging. I stay in a mission station in an informal settlement in South Africa. We regularly have water cuts here. To overcome that we have a water tank outside our home for spare water. However, during water cuts, which can sometimes last for a whole weekend, one needs to be aware of how the spare water in the tank is dropping so that you can effectively manage the water use. In the past I had to climb all the way to the top of the tank (4-5 meters above ground level), and unscrew the lit to check inside. And then get back down again. For a young man perhaps easy but at 50+ years of age I don't find that climb fun anymore, but very risky. Now thanks to the thermal imaging on my phone I can just stand infront of the tank anytime of day to check the water level inside the tank, thanks to the clear heat difference between the water covered part and empty part of the tank.

Not the reviewer - but yes, I use it for that too, checking the water levels in our IBC storage tanks. Hosepipe ban in the south west UK at the moment. We just bought another 3000L of storage, gotta get that plumbed in before the rain hits. Was also thinking of converting one to an outdoor shower - the water gets surprisingly hot during the summer.

Thermal is extremely useful. Been living with it's predecessor and damn, super super useful. You can tell exactly how hot your microwaved food is and exactly where to stir for just one nifty use. I do ebikes, so it's nice to know exactly what and where is getting hot. Can check your fridge if it's not getting properly cold. Everyday temperatures in and out. Great for work too if you do furnace stuff.

the thermal camera with 5g is the only reason I am buying as my daily driver. I will use it for HVAC and refrigeration services.

Thermal imaging can be a huge benefit depending on your needs. For example if you're a motor mechanic you can use it to see if a radiator has a blockage, you can also use it to check the temperatures around the exhaust ports to see if the combustion is reaching consistent temperatures across all cylinders. An electrician may use it to identify electrical connections which may be arcing and presenting a fire risk. If you work in a foundry you can use t to see how the casting is cooling and compare that with a computer simulation. I'm sure there are many more applications where thermal would be a great benefit, particularly for the price. Good review though. Thanks.

I have the blackview 9900 pro for 3 years and work as a concrete driller. dust, concrete gruel, water, falls.... these mobile phones are indestructible believe me. I use the thermal camera to locate pipes and I can even see my heating pipes under the floor. 

This smartphone is looking great at this price range. The camera setup and Mediatek chipset are amazing.

"waterproof" isn't really accurate, IPx8 doesn't take water type and pressure in much consideration. Swimming in salt water with the phone can brick it without without Blackview "lying". On another note, I will use the Flir in both automotive and electrical repair when I get a new phone so while it may not be for the average user, it is aiming for tech workers that doesn't care much for 100M pixel cameras with 200x zoom and tiktok slowmotion video capabilities. Nice review anyway, I'm just saying that it should be tested with the user they aim for in mind.

A lot many "rugged" phones crack when the throw includes torque(spins). I had a phone which was slightly big to hold on my hand and dropped one day on the floor. When it left my hand, my pinkie finger inadvertently flicked and spun it as it dropped. There were immediate big cracks. That phone had dropped on me before several times but never got this level of damage.

The thermal imaging is a huge plus and the massive battery adds to this mediatek powered device's appeal.

what the hell are you talking about, Thermal imaging cameras alone cost around 400Euros at least, I am looking for a thermal imaging phone for inspections of main lines, fuse boxes, wiring, inspecting heating radiators, inspecting cooling systems of freezers, inspecting displacement of heat in the room, inspecting thermal leakage in house, doors, windows insulations, security inspections of people with high temperature during the pandemic lockdown in cancer clinic... etc... it is a great tool.

Thermal is EXTREMELY useful. The FLR camera add on for a lot of cellphones (via usb) is like 200 bucks.

As a secondary device for outdoors or industrial working could good one

As many has already stated the thermal imaging is very useful in industry i.e. underfloor heating certification and Cx, HVAC, Electrical work and many more.

Yeah i used to be a mechanic and this phone would have been amazing and saved so much time diagnosing things. I currently have a bl8800, and i use the thermal at least weekly tracking down various issues in remodeling and renovating houses. Something as simple as tracking down a draft, or moisture seeping into drywall, or as serious as finding hot spots in old wiring that could literally save someones life or house. Its a gimmick for those not creative enough to use it intelligently

Good camera is all that I need with a rugged smartphone and this does the job with its Dimensity chipset. So good enough.

If you dont need Termal View, buy the normal BL8800... but dont call it useless! i´m a firefighter and can see little fires with y phone.. also at my car service i can use it for checking temp of breaks, engine and my other things... electrician use it too... its not an gimmick, its a tool!

Got one coming in the mail right now, for construction admin and backcountry camping. I do wish they'd have used a dimensity 1200 and lepton 3.5 instead though. Would have been near perfect then.

I must disagree with your statement that thermal imaging is not needed. Currently, i am a mechanical/electrical engineer specializing in industrial manufacturing/scalable processes/R&d/New product development. Previously I was a leak detection specialist. You have a leak somewhere? A thermal camera will point you towards the cold spot. Particularly if you have a leak in your drainage line, which are usually intermittent and occur when a drain system is heavily loaded (I've seen at least a hundred where the leak only happened when a bathtub was draining and a few toilets were flushed at the same time). You can pour hot water down your drain and the leak will light up like a shining beacon with thermal imaging. You have a poor electrical connection, clogged up cooling, or a malfunctioning component? It's probably going to be notably warmer than the rest of the equipment. You have a bearing in a piece of machinery going bad. or a belt rubbing the wrong way from improperly adjusted pulleys. Perhaps an air bubble in your engine coolant system causing overheating? Or an HVAC issue you would like to begin diagnosing without taking pressure readings on the refrigerant system? you will have a much harder time seeing all of these things without thermal imaging. Another particularly practical use is identifying insulation "leaks" in your home. You want to see which window's glazing has failed or where the contractors didn't apply enough insulation? Thermal will reveal all. It's a highly useful technology. You just have to be the sort of person that actually fixes things. It is entertaining enough as a toy, but you will never truly see its value until you start using it as a tool. I could go on, but i sincerely miss having 24/7 access to a flir hand held thermal imaging camera. :( (if only i had a spare few grand laying around) My biggest quandary, is that the majority of these phones are using the flir lepton 2-2.5 instead of 3(+) Do i wait for them to catch up? do i give up other features to get the new caterpillar phone that is using the latest flir lepton chip? The 80x60 resolution of the earlier models pales in comparison to the latest flir lepton 3.5 with a proper 160x120 resolution. The extra detail in the thermal images makes the thermal camera infinitely more useful for diagnosing a massive range of issues. I would gladly pay the extra 50-100 bucks for a higher resolution thermal sensor. As it sits. i am still holding onto my galaxy S7 from yesteryear. :(

I agree (I'm not the guy in the video), I use my CAT s62 all the time, purely for the thermal imaging.

I use the older bv 6800 pro and have found it great. Don't care about the little extra weight or bulk as it survives rough conditions which I require in a phone. Have very quickly killed a good many phones in the past. Only the tough phones have ever lasted more than a few months

i should really control myself for not screaming stupid at you, watching this video. but are you? thermal imaging is one of the most useful features, and one of the main reasons i am looking at this phone and other flir phones. what can you use flir for? how about seeing where your house needs an insulation? where the electric problem is in your pc? etc...

If you want a phone with thermal imaging you're way better off with a Doogee S98 Pro. The Infiray thermal imaging sensor has much higher resolution than the Flir Lepton 2.5 sensor.

I find it is fine as a daily driver. It is no more bulky tha a Otter case on any other phone and the weight is worth it for the battery longevity, IMHO.

Would you suggest this phone for 370 euros or samsung and xiaomi for same money ?

You need to use the specific FLIR app, can't just use with any camera app.

When this phone saves your life cause you"play"with it and accidentally see a hot spot in your house that could lead to a fire, if you're still not grateful for it, then you can tell me it won't be my everyday device. But until then I'll use one everyday.

Rugged phones are not toys. Rugged toys are tools of a trade for serious and dangerous jobs. Rugged phones are not designed to play games or to trade on the stock market. Although I believe that on the hands of specialist can do the job just as well as any other top candidate. I'm a Electromechanic engineer and I have a CAT S60 PRO since 2014 and after almost 9 years of good work and going as far as maybe saving my life in some occasions. When I have too enter a High Voltage substation I measure the temperature before entering. High temps is a sign of something wrong and a potentially lethal situation. I know than that I have to take extra precautions and use different PPE. After entering the station I scan the entire bank of switchgear and quickly identify where the problem is remotly. My rugged phone has probably saved my life from s electrical flashback more than once. So what I'm saying is that I have a lot of respect for rugged phones and the MEN and WOMEN who used them as tools of their trade. I'm ordering today a BL8800 rugged phone (not because is something wrong with my CAT S60 but after almost 9 year's of service I can't get updares anymore and some new software requires new OS. I'm choosing the BV8800 PRO vs a CAT S62 Pro because the BL shows better specs. I hope I'm not making a mistake as I don't have any experience with the BL phones..

The black view BL 8800 pro speaker is too low for a rugged phone in a rugged environment you can hardly hear it even on speaker. Otherwise the phone is quite good in my opinion but if I could only change out the speaker to a higher volume speaker. Out of five stars I give it for four. Based on working in construction wearing it on your construction belt in a pouch and price wise but speaker don't cut it.

Can it be switched to English on the phone? I know you said it was in Russian but didn't say whether or not you could change the language. Kinda feel like this is a rhetorical question because you can change just about any phone into the preferred language. Was just wondering. Any comments???

My understanding of the video is that the phone is in English, but he said that there is an annoying window or page in Russian that pops up, giving you options of apps in Russian to chose from. As he said, that page cannot be disabled, and is useless if you are not literate in Russian, so is a nuisance to have it.

Came here hoping for a good review. The moment he tells you that you "don't need" thermal camera because its for "camping and manuvueres more than anything else", I stopped listening. Thermal imaging is great to have for many industries, even property agents and pest control. So to say that thermal imaging is not needed in the invention that already has clocks, calculators, excel spreadsheets, torchlight, media player... The main people sourcing out videos like these literally want thermal camera phones because thermal cameras are already used in daily work, or can be used to enhance problem diagnoses on site. Assuming that a technology is not needed because you don't know its useful applications is a very fast way to become a dinosaur. Learn technology. Skill up. Stay relevant.

Whats a good ruggerd phone

Sounds great but if your serious about the thermal abilities in the outdoor environment say for search rescue or security surveillance then its doubtful this will meet your requirements ...its no doubt going to be great close up when inspecting electrical devices and the such like but it's zoom capability as an mobile phone is just bound to be severely limited...I dare say an thermal monocular specifically designed with an powerfull let's say 6X zoom capability will discover anything with an heat signature at distance in the wild but an mobile phone?...somehow I don't think so as without the lenses and optical zoom built into an monocular it has to disappoint...The Flir is no doubt an great thermal imaging device but if its to survey an large expanse then surely there dedicated monocular is the kind of serious minded equipment that you really require?...and whats more these phones retail at an lot less than Flirs dedicated thermal monocular so its not anywhere near in the same league as the firms rather renowned but expensive and incredibly small hand held device ....to be honest this device in reality is just the outboard filr thermal that you can mount on any mobile phone and thats been available for quite some time except in this instance its been incorporated onto the mobile phone device itself...thats what it looks like to me but if youve an better understanding then please do let me know?.

Make sure you let the tradies know that this review is useless too them. I am a plumber and I used the thermal camera regularly too detect leaks inside peoples homes. If you clearly don’t have a grasp of the use of this function than don’t make a review on it!

It seems BL8800 has night vision but no thermal, whereas BL8800 PRO has thermal but it drops night vision. You know what I would really appreciate from a work-phone like this? 1) thermal and possibly nightvision. 2) an integrated multimeter / oscilloscope / signal generator - one which includes a thermometer function via a 650C resistant thermal probe. I mean, it seems it has all the hardware / memory required to do the job well... maybe a li-ion battery has some security issues being used to power a multimeter potentially exposed to high voltage/current? don't really know... but it would be nice to have. I know there is apps to do this via the phones/mic jack, but I'd like a dedicated device as it has broader application potential. 3) a phonometer - a good one not just a software one that relies on the human-voice-oriented mic. 3) a decent tape / distance measure. 4) option to record/clone/emulate infrared remote controls - both inbound/outbound signal. I realize the more features you put in there, the less perfect features you get. But since this would be some sorta swiss army knife... I'd still pay one cent more for those features...

This phone has no updates. I bought it 6 months ago. There is no software or security update for it. It is very bad and heavy.

As you can see by the comments, this is actually a great phone with some amazing unique features. I dont know why you are trying to be so negative about this phone - its not really justified. Not the best review mate, no one really agrees with you, including me. You should redo it in a sensible legitimate way & delete this vid.

I live in Canada and just got this phone. Due to the unusable charging block. $100 import fees. Inability to clone/transfer everything from my old phone easily. Inability to get working drivers on my Work Laptop or home PC (to transfer or eventually backup). Bloatware that I can't get rid of due to above driver problem. The fact that Blackview will NOT warranty against water damage (especially if you test it at 1.5m for 30 minutes). Lack of SD an slot and inability to swap one of the dual SIM slots for an SD. And that's all I got so far. For anyone after a mil-spec H phone with Thermal cam I'd recommend the CAT62 instead (which JUST went on sale for same price I ended up paying for the BL8800 pro). Edit: The thing fell for the first time today off of a bench less than 0.5m high onto a tile floor and the screen immediately broke. I have a screen protector and a soft case (couldn't find any good ones) on it. Calling it rugged and mil-std is an absolute joke.

The people that are pro flir cam are more towards a camera that is only flir rather than a feature of a phone. The others understand the gimmicky nature of a flir on a phone. The flir camera is weak and basically only good for amateur activities. If the flir were needed in a profession, then a real camera would be available to them.
