BLACKHAWK PORGY SLAM, Pro Tips for Party Boat Porgies

A porgy trip with a couple of my bros aboard the Blackhawk party boat out of Niantic, CT. I geared this video toward novice porgy fishermen, so if you've never fished for porgies before, or never fished for them on a party boat loaded with people, I think you'll find the tips in the video useful. Porgies aren't typically very hard to catch, but some subtle changes in your gear and tackle can take you from scup guppy to porgy pro.

How do you tie your hook to the cut dropper loop?

I tie my sinker loop first at the bottom, then I tie one dropper loop 6" above that (you want your bottom hook near bottom), then another dropper loop 15" above the first. Then clip one end of each dropper loop so you have two single strand leaders. Then just tie your hooks on the end of those with a simple 4 or 5 twist knot and you're good to go. I've found that clipping one end of your droppers works fine as long as you are using at least 20 lb. test. I usually use 30 or 40 lb. test flourocarbon for porgy and surf fishing rigs.

If you want to target Black Sea Bass, use fish flesh - preferably oily fish pieces.
