The show is good in that it's entertaining and a good starting point for conversation, but the showrunners had a lot of shortcomings. Half the activities are lackluster (like bible study and ettiquette school). The make up seemed to became worse and less believable in the later episodes.

Bruno keeps acting like Brian is delusional, except it's not just Brian trying to get him to see it, so is his own wife and daughter. It's insane how he's not noticing he's the only one who feels the way he feels. I do think that there could be few times when Brian is thinking it could be something it's not, however, there are many times Brian is right and Bruno just doesn't see it, even when Bruno's own wife had the experience at the bar and pointed it out to him right away. Then it happened again when the wife, daughter, and the daughter's friend from poetry had experienced it when out shopping in their home town. He didn't even take their opinion into consideration overall. I hope he watched this back and realized how silly he looked when he sees it happening directly to his family when they were out in the makeup and he was in denial the entire time.

see that kind of naive statement right there doesn't magically erase years and years of prejudice and dehumanization that minority groups have experienced. the whole point of this project is to show that saying "we're all just human" isn't enough to be treated with compassion, respect, kindness, etc by people who hate you. It shows that you first have to acknowledge the difference of things like history, day-to-day experience, struggles, privilege, realize that you ARE different in that sense, and that you can connect on a human level without erasing peoples' real experiences. you have to acknowledge the root of things before you begin to heal. you can't move forward without acknowledging what's right in front of us.

@@cutekitty760 I totally agree with you! Literally every single point you made I agree with. Maybe I misinterpreted the line Rose says. I thought that she is saying that while we are all human, each person has their own story to tell-- their own history, life experience, etc. and that we dont all fit into these simple categories so easily so we shouldnt be judged in that way. Also, there's only so much a 17 yr old girl can do. She can't change legislation at that age. What she can do is recognize that everyone is worth compassion and treating everyone she meets with that outlook. I know it doesn't fix the centuries of injustice that is still rampant today, but it is what she could do at the time

Bruno keeps going and going with his belief of no racism but 5 episodes in for about 2ish weeks and has he made any friends? Did he really have any conversation with some black people that wasn’t about race? Did he actually try to understand some of the black culture? It’s all no because he will only be happy if Black people just fit in to his white culture. And it’s sad that a lot of people would still have this mentality today not as obvious as Bruno but the avoiding, and the lack of understanding of POC perspective and their different cultures.

I feel like i can see the evolution and expression of blackphishing throughout our history and how it became the epidemic of white rappers and white folks being “in” to black culture. And also how rose has sort of “got it”. I have adopted white family and ive watched them over time slowly have to confront their whiteness being close to us. And yeah its interesting. Watching bruno, and brian, and carmen, theres alot that they just dont know, especially bruno and carmen. I feel like Brian doesnt trust himself enough, it feels like he cant express himself. Watched all the episodes in 2023 only just hearing about this show. Don’t know why it’s called black and white because the experience was only to try and get a glimpse into what it’s like to be black. The black couple hardly got into their white characters but the white couple were if not always then very regularly in their black characters. I know the black community experiences racism on a daily and this show is very eye opening, but I’m saying that the black couple were very dismissive with the white couple and what they experienced and didn’t want to try experience what it’s like to be white, it’s not the same but that’s the point. Bruno is very stubborn and won’t change because his not willing to see all points of views, but so is Renee, very judgemental, thinks she has white women especially all figured out and that she couldn’t learn anything, won’t learn a damn thing if you think you already know and can’t learn anymore.
