BJ Fogg - Why Tiny Habits Give Big Results | Interactive 2013 | SXSW

Ғылым және технология

Over the last year, I've coached thousands of people in creating new habits.
Human behavior is not as complicated as most believe. And the received wisdom about habits is often wrong.
From my research and my hands-on practice, I'll share key insights and surprises about how behavior works.

his language is so simple, it's nearly deceptive... if you were to judge him by his language and style alone, you might not believe he's a pHD... But his content is mind blowing

In the case of drawing I think that it's a matter of developing the habit of practice drawing, starting by things that take little time and are easy to draw. Over time, more complex drawings will get easier and easier. Regarding to cooking, theres a concept that Fogg mentioned called motivation waves (he has a video on this topic) that points some things you can do to make the cooking process easier when you have high motivation. Soon or later you will see yourself drawing and cooking better.

What about complex and non-linear habits? What if you're not working with easily quantifiable habits. For example, drawing or cooking?

Have you ever weighed your food with a digital scale? Piaget says 4th graders can learn measurement. There are studies that 32 ounces of food a day is the right amount. Gerontology, NASA, mountain climbing, and swimming studies. It is in ancient texts like the Bible. This can help people who are thin and are told by others to eat more and people who are overweight who are told to not eat. A pre-med female student ate 47 pieces of pizza and didn't die. The cute guy didn't die yet.

In This Video: Why you don't need willpower ever again. New Years' resolutions are coming up. Behavior is not fixed. It's engineered. Motivating change and breaking bad habit. Change behavior first. Then their attitude will follow. The only way to change behavior fast is to change environment and people.

Weigh food with a digital scale? Piaget: 4th graders can learn measurement. 32 ounces of food a day is the right amount. Gerontology, NASA, mountain climbing, and swimming studies support this. It is in ancient texts like the Bible. This can help people who are thin or fat. Control or what we eat are taken away when we weigh our food. A pre-med slender female student ate 47 pieces of pizza and didn't die. Her cute guy didn't die yet. They didn't weigh their food.
