We planned to call our daughter Rose, but I had a feeling during my pregnancy that she would be unique and needed something a little different. We called her Primrose, nicknamed Posy. Sure enough, she has had a very unique early life with a life changing diagnosis and she actually beat cancer before the age of six months. Our little Primrose really is the strongest, sweetest little girl and the image of the Primrose, the first flower of spring, embodies her perfectly.

My mam and dad were trying to have me for 8 years, but weren’t having any success. They were told by doctors when my mam was nearing 42 that there wasn’t really any hope left. My parents use to go yearly to an orphanage in Medjugorje with a group from their village after raising money for them, and one of the workers in the orphanage told my mam to walk the mountain and ask for her baby when she reached the top! At this point they would have tried anything, so they did and both agreed it would be the last time they’d ask and try for a baby. A week later when they arrived home, my mam had a really vivid dream that she was sat with a newborn baby that was quite big for a new born, with a head full of dark hair and massive blue eyes. She was holding a pink baby bag and pulling out pink baby grows, pink dummys and teddy bears. She woke up the next day, saying she just knew, took a test and was pregnant with me!! I was born 9pounds 11, with a full head of dark hair and two saucer blue eyes! 🤣 The funny story about my name was they agreed if I was a girl mam chose my name, if I was a boy then dad chose. Mam said she knew I was a girl before she knew I was pregnant from the dream, so she kind of cheated 😂

I had a dream about my son when I was pregnant with him before I knew he was a boy. I was convinced my whole life I would have a girl first because it seems like a theme in the family! Dream: My husband and I were sitting on a porch and my husband said “where is that boy?” And then a massive 10 ft silhouette of a stork in a top hat brought us our blonde baby boy. He looked 3 months old. I asked the stork why he carried my baby by the back of his yellow corduroy overalls. I was concerned about the back of his neck being iterated because of it. I grabbed our baby and went inside. I never thought this dream would be so accurate mostly because my husband and I have dark brown hair with a little history of blondes in the family. Why it was a dream of him... 1. When he was three months old he became blonde and chubby 2. My mother in law later gave me yellow corduroy overalls from husbands childhood that I never knew babe had! They were the size for a 3 month old! 3. When my sons crib came in it had the same Silhouette Of a stork in a top hat. It’s from kid craft. 4. Craziest of all! He had a “stork bite” on the bottom back of his head! I know it’s nuts! Im not a fan of sharing this story because it’s super crazy and seems unreal. I’m pregnant with our second and haven’t had any dreams or anything like that. I must be out of dream juice lol

On the morning of our first scan with our second child I said to my husband 'What about Frederick after your grandad?' My husband's grandad wasn't well at the time. Scan went well and we called my mother in law afterwards and she asked if she could tell the grandad the news and about the name. We said of course. We were woken the next morning by a call to say Grandad had passed away in the early hours of the morning. We never even considered any other names from that moment.

So when I was little I watched a pretty popular movie called Kindergarten Cop with Arnold Schwarzenegger. In the movie the main little boys name is Dominic. When I heard that name I absolutely loved it and thought to myself (I was 5 at the time) if I ever have a son I’ll name him Dominic. Didn’t give it much thought after that. Just kind of tucked it in my heart pocket and moved on. Well fast forward to me being 22 years old. Meeting my now partner of almost 13 years. We moved pretty quickly in the relationship. 9 months after meeting I became pregnant. We found out it was a boy. I told my partner about the movie and how I still wanted to name my son Dominic. Weeeeellllll my partner had also as a 5 year old watched the movie and decided that if he had a son he would name him Dominic. I didn’t believe him and he said oh yea I even told my mom. Ask her. So the next time we saw her I brought it up and she said yes he really liked that name. So there was never an issue with the name for us. We had both as children watched the movie and decided on Dominic 😳 My daughters name is interesting too. I had a LONG list of beautiful girl names for her. I dreamt she was a girl before I knew she was a girl. I saw her in my dreams. And she in real life looks exactly like how I dreamt her. But anyway, none of the names I had on my list FELT right for her. It was quite frustrating. So I kind of in an exasperated way said alright universe I don’t know what to do. You show me her name then. A few weeks later I was on Instagram of all places and someone mentioned their daughter Luella. I had never even heard the name before but I knew right then and there that was her name. I had always loved the name Lulu haha especially because of another movie that I love. So we decided on Luella and even though I’ve never loved the name I also knew her middle name would be Grace. Everyone thinks is weird that I named her Grace because I don’t like it but I just tell people it’s her name that’s all I can say. Luella means “warrior elf or sometimes faery elf” and let me tell you that name suits her perfectly. She’s a sweet little firey thing. And she’s so full of Grace. Just an angel. People always comment on her tiny voice and always say what an angel she is. But let me tell you when she gets upset haha it’s intense. My little warrior elf ;)

Not exactly a baby name story but still sweet, My auntie was told she will probably never conceive naturally and her and my Uncle was never thinking about trying for one since they were saving for a house. My Nan was diagnosed with cancer in 2019 and sadly passed away later that year. On the day of her funeral they found out they were pregnant which was a complete shock, but what freaked us out the most was the midwife calculating their due date on my Nan's birthday...he was actually born 1 day before as well. We say it was a gift from her and they stil call him their angel baby 👼

I feel bad for the girl who wanted the twins. It does NOT make any difference if twins run in the father's family, only the mothers side counts for that 😅 It's a certain gene that causes the mother to release multiple ova each month, instead of just one, which results in the possibility of fraternal twinning. Men don't have ovaries so they obviously can't add to the number of ova! 😂

The rest were fair haired (REALLY blonde) and blue eyes (she chose my name a it before I was born). When she found out the meaning of my name she laughed, she had no idea...she just loved the name! My dad decided when he was a teenager that if he had a daughter he would name her Miranda after the Slowdive song of the same name. My mom loved the name and it was also fitting because she grew up in Mexico and Spain, and Miranda is a Spanish surname. My dad also decided when he was about 11 (I know, he had this all figured out at a very young age) that he wanted to name a son Marty after Marty McFly from Back to the Future. My mom also loved it and her uncle is named Marty so it was also a family name, so my older brother was named Marty.

I guess we really missed our chance with naming our first daughter. Hubby and I had just been across the country spending the last couple of weeks with my family. We were young newlyweds and madly in love, and our schedule had been crazy full while we were with my family, so our intimate times had been a lot fewer and farther between than we were used to. We had around a 17 hour drive back home, and about halfway back, we were like, we can't stand this anymore! Time for a motel! Hubs booked a room online and we drove like mad to get there, and waited what seemed like forever to get booked in, only to discover that he had accidentally booked the wrong date. I don't remember if the motel was full, but for some reason we decided to just put the pedal to the medal and get home as fast as we could. It got dark, and we got to a spot where it was wooded and there were some dark parking lots, and the car had dark tinted windows, so we decided to throw caution to the wind... And you know how the rest goes. Only... Condoms were packed in the suitcase in the trunk, and I thought I knew my cycle well enough to be safe, but several weeks later it became obvious what had really happened that night! We actually talked of naming her Mazda for that reason, but thought that would probably be a little to obvious! The story of how she actually got her name is kinda cute tho, I think. We were hanging out with some friends, and one of the guys totally mispronounced a word, making it a girl's name, and our daughter's full name just popped into my head. My husband, who hates any name I like normally, loved it immediately, and it was only later that we realized that the reason it seemed so right was because the names were variations of both of our Mom's names. Our son's name was kinda the same way. Once again we were traveling, and I saw a name on some luggage that I thought was kinda neat. My husband was off getting a suitcase, and till he came around, I had totally forgotten the name. We stopped at a restaurant on the way home, and there was a group of teenagers in the booth next to me. Suddenly my husband was like, I really like that name! I hadn't been paying attention at all, and had no clue what he was talking about. He said, "Listen! The friend that the guy behind me is talking about!" Come to realize that it was the name I had seen on the luggage and couldn't remember 😊

I'm adopting, and had a whole list of possible girls names. I'd dialed into the boys name pretty early, but didn't know the direction I would go with a girls name since I had about 10 that I loved equally as much. I then had a dream that her birth parents were calling her by the nickname I would use, so I took that as a sign! :) I've never looked back in being sure about that name.

My name also has a very interesting story! My aunt and uncle were trying for a baby and they always loved the name Vanessa and were convinced on using that name if they ever had a daughter. A few years go by and they are pregnant. They went to the doctor and found out that they were having a girl so they knew. They threw a pink baby shower and later, the baby boy was born. They obviously didn’t end up using the name but 2 years later I was born. My mom and my uncle were always really close growing up so my parents decided to name me Vanessa. Funny coincidence though, their son who was supposed to be a girl is now married to someone named Vanessa!

My middle name is Rose. I have a few great aunts and relatives on both my parents sides that have variations of the name Rose. Both my parents liked it as a middle spot but weren't completely convinced. They never really discussed baby names that much with my older brothers and so neither of them knew they were considering Rose. Then one day they were sitting with my eldest brother and they asked him what he thought a good name would be. In a very nonchalant tone he just said 'oh the lady that was in my room last night said you have to call her Rose.'

This is SO cool. My mom actually heard my name in a dream! She woke up in the middle of the night and just knew it was my name, she didn't even know I was a girl! For us, we found a girl name we LOVED when we first started dating and still absolutely love it. We can't seem to like anything better because we actually have such a personal attachment to it, we call her that already and she's not even conceived yet! Everyone says I might have a boy first, but I just KNOW it's going to be a girl and that will be her name.

  • @RayneWalker

I found out I was having a boy for my 2nd baby and I was experiencing some gender disappointment because my partner and I were just convinced I was having another girl. We had chosen a name, I had a nursery theme and baby registry done, and we just never considered a boy in the picture. So choosing a boy name was very difficult and we just couldn't come up with a single name. I had coworkers and friends suggesting a ton of names to us and one had said Liam. I wasn't sure about it at first, I liked it but it was pretty common and I also had a Luca at home, so I wasn't crazy about another 4 letter L name. So I was sharing my feelings about picturing myself with these 2 little girls with my best friend and she had said that well now you'll have a little boy to grow up and be protective of his girls. After that I had looked up the meaning of Liam and it meant protector! I took this as a sign and that was it.

My daughter is called Wren and her name has so much meaning that was intended but there have been so many signs since it just feels perfect!! My grandmother was called Jennifer/Jenny and always known as Jenny Wren. She loved birds and her husband was in the Navy (women’s navy known as The WRENs or Jenny Wrens). He taught me to sail which is still special to me. So having lost them both Wren seemed a beautiful tribute to them both. We didn’t know what sex she was and if a girl Wren was going to be her middle name. Then she was born unexpectedly and dangerously at 28 weeks weighing 1lb 13oz. She was so tiny and just looked like this little naked fledgling. Without hesitation my husband and I agreed on Wren and when we said her name to her at that very moment she opened her eyes for the first time. She is such a noisy, feisty little bird and has been from the word go, it fits her so incredibly well. Being British and tiny also just fits as it’s the smallest British songbird. Then a while later I remembered that the day before my wedding my mum was desperately hunting the house for my old/borrowed/blue items and was going to give me Sixpence to stick to the bottom of my shoe as is the lucky tradition. She knew she had one that she had work but could not find it anywhere. She did however find a Farthing. So I walked down the aisle with an old Farthing coin on the bottom on my shoe (wren side up). So I was stood there at the alter 3 years prior to my daughters birth and not knowing that we would struggle with infertility, have her prematurely and nearly lose her. Wren was there at my wedding telling me it would be ok and she’s be coming. I know a backwards sign but feels so right. Now struggling with infertility again and likely to have a premature baby again I’m looking for a hopeful sign.

This weirdly makes a lot of sense to me. My cousin had a hard time conceiving as well and then lost her baby tragically after just 4 days on this earth. At the the funeral my granny told us this story about how her parents had lost 2 boys before her. Then someone told them that if you want a baby to live you should name it after it’s grandfather. So my granny was born and they named her Juliana after her grandfather Julius and the Dutch queen although we‘re not Dutch. So when my cousin was pregnant again it wasn’t easy but the girl‘s middle name is Juliana. Then she was pregnant again and we thought we lost the baby but miraculously she lived. Her middle name is Elise, which is our granny’s middle name. Both girls are a joy, they are feisty, smart and very creative. You can tell they both have fought hard to be on this earth. They have fighter spirits. Sounds so odd but we marvel at it all the time in our family. Tl;dr if you want babies to live name them after their grandparents.

My son has a strange coincidence name. When I went in for my first pregnancy scan I found out that I was due June 12. I was shocked! My dad had past away on a June 12th. So I was trying to think of names to honor him. Nothing felt right. So I scrapped the idea. Came up with a totally unrelated name. Then right before my gender reveal scan the name"Shane" popped in my head. It just felt right. Then we find out were having a boy! But the strange bit happened when I was talking to my Aunt (one of my dads sisters) and said;"we decided to go with the name Shane." Her mouth dropped open and she said;"you wont believe this. But when your dad was little he LOVED the cowboy movie,"Shane" and wanted to use the name, if he had a son." And I had no idea! Now my son even looks like my dad. It was truly meant to be.
