I am going through school to become a veterinary technician, and, when I did a job shadow at a highly reputable vet clinic in my area, there was a dog who had an abscess on a tooth that was found during a dental cleaning, but, the owner told them over the phone not to pull the tooth because it was a tad extra to pull it out, and she was worried that it would affect his ability to eat. The technician who was doing the cleaning calmly tried to explain that the dog had less plaque on the opposite side of his mouth, indicating that he had only been chewing on that side because his tooth was hurting him, and that, even if he was given antibiotics, he would need to have it extracted to keep the infection from coming back. However, the owner STILL said no to the extraction and said to basically take a wait-and-see approach with antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. Guess who was back a few days later because he refused to eat? How do you deal with clients like that?

Thank you so much for this.. I’m waiting for my dog baby now for a similar surgery and I’m trying to calm my anxiety by understanding what is going on w her inside right now. Because of Covid, I’m not allowed inside and even communicating w the vet/techs is keeping me on edge just waiting for their update calls.

What school did you study at? I wanna be a vet and I have my heart set on Cornell, my dream college, I of course have other options but that on would be preferred 😂

Washington State University has an awesome vet school. Since it's a state school, it might be cheaper than Cornell.

Did anyone notice the pulse stopped a couple times???? Maybe the dog was just moved.
