Periera was not going for double champ status, he changed weight class and was only going to fight in one division from that point onwards. He also got the title shot in large part because Hill gave up the belt.

Poatan wasn't holding a belt when he moved up, meaning his move didn't hold up a division (so why would anyone have a problem with it?). Islam can move up whenever he wants, but he should relinquish his belt or at least defend it against someone in the division (this is key to any complaints) before doing so. He hasn't even fought a LW since getting the belt...

In think Islam is just tired of fighting the same guys over and over again. He beat Charles who beat everyone - Arman barely beat Charles with a split decision. It's not like Arman took Charles out in the second round like Islam did! Arman got saved by the bell several times during the course of the fight. I am actually a fan of Dustin, but he doesn't stand a chance against Islam. I see Dustin spending most of the fight under Islam. It will be a one way beating!

Arman for sure…. You can say he beat him, dude was 22 years old and on short notice but yeah others have wiped each other out but that doesn’t mean Islam has cleared out the division, styles makes fights so he needs to get some other top 5 wins other than Charles

There's so many people falling for that crap, it's unbelievable... Makhachev already told MMAJunkie that he would fight twice at least this year and that Arman would be next after he beats Poirier. Makhachev vs Gamrot is an interesting fight on paper, but Gamrot can't finish Makhachev on the feet, and if the fight goes the full distance, Makhachev is winning 100%. What do you want him to do after that ? You want to see him fight a 38 year old Chandler ? You want him to fight Oliveira after tht piss poor performance he had vs Arman ? You want him to fight journeyman Moicano ? You want him to wait till St-Denis gets up there and fight him in Paris ? Makhachev is right. Oliveira & Gaethje are out of the equation. If he picks Holloway, people will keep saying he only fights featherweights. Chandler is fighting McGregor, and Dariush is fighting Moicano to defend his spot in the top 10.

If he wins over Dustin and Arman, he will have 4 title defenses, exactly the same number that volk had when he was given the opportunity at the 155 title, then it would be great to see a fight and a big event, champion vs champion, for the 170 title.

Watch the entirety of what he said in that interview please. He meant after Poirier & Arman he's got noone else to look forward to fighting at 155... so he's looking at 170 after these two fights. He likes challenges (he knows Leon is one & happen to hold the belt aka exciting match for him) and in his opinion this coming fights doesn't do it for him (he's convinced he'll beat Arman bec he'd done it before; he believes his style is bad for Porier style). Let him have his opinion, like everyone else is entitled to.. it's up to the 155ers work to prove him wrong anyways.

PPV numbers doesn't mean you deserve a title shot, and it shows how curated some of these guys' careers are.. At this point, you'd have to be blind not to see it. Islam isn't scared of these guys, but it is interesting how little respect people give him in conversation. They'll acknowledge his skill, but with an asterisk with it..

No one is beating Islam in the light weight.

I mean Islam has only beaten Oliveira and Tsarukyan, and Tsarukyan is a long time ago, so it warrants a rematch, especially with Tsarukyan at nr. 1 currently. Islam hasn't beaten Gaethje, but granted, Gaethje just lost and is out for a minute. Mateusz Gamrot is there as well, good fighter and in the top 5. Rematch with Oliveira, which was supposed to have happened before an injury anyway, is right there, even though he lost to Tsarukyan. So beat Poirier, fight Tsarukyan, rematch Oliveira (if Oliveira is in the win column at that point), and at that point someone new is probably there to fight anyway, the divisions grow.

There is something wrong with this division because islam vs charles 2 did not happen due to Oliviera injury . But islam took on alex volkanovski and beat him . Second jsutin was supposed to fight islam but ramadan came and justin took on halloway and lost his contender position. Dustin got this fight because of defeating yiung , hungry, upcomer of bsd . So islam could be right and wrong due to all these things happend. The division is probably the best in ufc but something is wrong with it's schedule, injuries and when ever new contenders come into the top five they are stopped by either dustin , Charles or justin .

All bickering over details aside I think the main disconnect here is that as fans we have a much different perspective than he does. We see title fights as an interesting and exciting thing, because it's a challenger taking on the champ, but as the champ he doesn't look at it as a challenge, because he is defending. A challenge would be going for another belt, fighting another champion. That is going to be more exciting for the fighter than just defending their belt. Fans are happy to see a champ defend for years but I can understand why, now that it has become a viable option, fighters want to win a title and then they want to win another title.
