Biomimicry
Biomimicry, the practice of looking deeply into nature for solutions to engineering, design and other challenges, has inspired a film about it's ground-breaking vision for creating a long-term, sustainable world. This film covers how mimicking nature solves some of our most pressing problems, from reducing carbon emissions to saving water. The film, titled "Biomimicry" features Janine Benyus, is brought to you by Leonardo DiCaprio, Executive Producers Oliver Stanton, directed by Leila Conners, produced by Mathew Schmid and Bryony Schwan, created by Tree Media with Executive Producers Roee Sharon Peled and George DiCaprio. True , I agree 😇
"Life uses very, very elegant recipes. Low temperature, low pressures, low toxicities." Love this.
As usual an iconoclast ahead of the time. 8yrs later this inspired by nature formula is more relevant than ever.
I can't believe this only has a little over 50k views. I've probably watched it two dozen times.

I LOVE Janine Benyus. Her body of work is waking up an undeniable affection for biomimicry.
This is what Biomimicry means to me. Its mean ," The De - Evolution of Humankinds Reliance on Technology and the Evolution of Humankinds Connection with Mother Nature."
We love Biomimicry. All the solutions are there already, we just need to listen, look and learn.

this lady is the best version of an enviromentalist that someone can be. Actually helping to solve problems, instead of protesting.
Just learned more than in my entire school decade.

@@thatssofetch3481 You have been lied to on such a large scale that you can’t comprehend right now. Even "globalists" know it's not a spinning ball...check out the logos for the UN, the international maritime organization, the international civil aviation organization, the WHO.
OMG! I love this lady! I'm 16 and she's just so inspiring! It's just so sad that this hasn't become viral in any way. Keep at it Janine!!!!
We are nature, let's collaborate with nature.
The most logical solutions I have ever heard... Thank YOU so much for bringing the wisdom forward. Helping us all be part of the solution and not the pollution.
I could honestly watch this again and again and again. The ideas, hope and cinematography are simply outstanding! And Janine Benyus... I could listen to you all day.
It really is taking off in labs everywhere; I remember a Japanese research team that analysed the proboscis of Mosquitoes to create syringes that do not stretch the skin so much when inserted and so are much less painful. Another team applied the surface contours of dragonfly wings to create turbines that generate less air resistance, so they extract more energy. Biomimicry really does have solutions for everything
Can you please manually correct your closed captions so that this video is more accessible to the hearing impaired?
I'm really wondering how you can put a thumb down to this topic
So glad a film was made to explain #biomimicry in lay terms. This will be a great tool the spread the word about how biomimicry should be spreading across our economies and to help change the way we think. Lot's of work ahead!
I love this so much. Systems design based on biomimicry can bring us to a new paradigm on how humans engage with out environment.
Wonderfully inspiring and positive documentary: a must watch. Janine Benyus explains it so well.
This woman is a fantastic speaker. The flow feels natural and really inspired, I can hear how she actually believes in what she is saying.
400 years ago she would have been accused of being a witch and burnt alive. I'm so glad we are now. This is more than intelligence, this is wisdom.
This is the most informed and interesting video i have seen in a very long time. Incredibly well explained by the scientist Janine Benyus. I wish she was my science teacher at school. I actually understand things when you say them Janine Benyus
This woman is amazing, I’m hoping she has some books out there that I can find.
Masterpiece !! Should be shown to every single student on planet for better tomorrow. So inspiring!
Every second of this video was so beautifully structured & filled with inspiration that it does make you wonder, we are not the ones lost, we are not really looking. Thank you Janine, this is a very moving summary.
The great thing I notice about this video -- aside from the wonderfully uplifting information -- is that Janine Benyus pauses between sentences. That's rare on KZread today. It seems the standard tactic is to keep up an unbroken stream of patter in order to discourage listeners from turning the video off, or hitting pause. Watch any SciShow video; you'll see what I mean.
Amazing nature! Brilliant video! Thank you very much for sharing these ideas Janine!
Nature is so beautiful and perfect! This gives me hope!! So, so fascinating!
So so inspiring, well done nature 🙂
Such an inspiring video. This video has successfully transformed me from a naturephobic to a naturephilic person.
Thank you ! I can't wait to share this with my kids and friends. There is an infinite amount of exploration, innovation and invention under our noses waiting to be realized. No jobs out there? Create a job! As an Naturopathic physician, it is my constant cry to my patients to look to nature to heal, be well.
I’m literally only 3 minutes in and this is already so insightful. Love it
I loved your video opening doors to new ways of thinking about Nature.
This is the best video I have watched in years
Love the background noise. Birds and cicadas chirping are very calming. I was twelve minutes into this omniscient feast before I realized those sounds were not coming from outside.
I’ll watch this again on my 10,000th birthday. Cheers
Love this! Nature is way of ahead us. To see its brilliance you cant just try to figure it out intellectually, you have to open your heart and observe it in awe.
What an amazing woman and important work she does!
thank you so much for this amazing documentary!
I absolutely loved this video, it's spectacular! I didn't know about the vast majority of these projects but they're amazing and I'm so glad that people have been researching these things more!! I can't wait to see what new things we discover about the world we live in!
this is my favorite video! definitely should watch!
I go to the first school in Australia to take on this initiative, its going well, thanks Janine

I am electrical engineer, and I love the idea of the answer litterally around us. One of our classic problem on thermal power generations are environmental effect. Maybe soon by biomimicry we'll find solutions.
so beautifull ! uplifting,, and what a lovely gentle woman

Amazing. I can't stop crying for the hope she brings.
A masterpiece of inspiration & communication laying down the simplest of messages, that the answers already surround us, we just need to open our eyes, ears and hearts. If we are to survive, this needs to be seen & embraced by all human kind. Thank you!

IT's mankind's hubris and belief that we're the smartest thing that ever existed on this planet that stops us from adopting these methods. To accept that, perhaps, we didn't get it right, and that the answers were right there in front of our face the whole time, would be admitting that we've been stupid. Our collective ego is too fragile and not mature enough to do that. We still need to be "God"
Have always known and admired nature but it seemed too hidden but today so happy to know that is possible in biomimicry.
This imo is the best idea ever!! its an idea that will (if we resort to it more) will help us in understanding how to help save our planet. I love this idea because it allows us to look to nature for ideas, it allows us to think outside the box. I LOVE IT!!
Did someone put a microphone on the crickets too?? I'm trying to focus. I swear. But its hard.
I am stunned!
Just pure beaty ...let nature be thy teacher
This is such an amazing video. Life takes care of its offspring by taking care of its environment. Not for a few years or decade, but for thousands of years. When we look at family this way, we are all brothers and sisters, and we are the offspring of all human cultures. Together, we can work to protect our offspring, not for a few years or decades, but for thousands of years.
Absolutely loved this. So easy to understand and exciting
Beautiful!!

lover this and got goosebumps . well done
Brilliant! We need more thinkers like YOU!
I loved the part about nacre, which is also known as mother-of-pearl in English. My only concern is an important one: at 7:06 the speaker says that carbon dioxide constructs shells and coral, while in fact CO2 dissolves them -- i.e. the the calcium bicarbonate parts of those organisms like their shells -- by forming carbonic acid (H2CO3) upon mixture with H2O. Correct? Therefore, the danger of ocean acidification was dismissed within the first 8 minutes of this video. I love positivity, I encourage it, yet the subject of decreasing the pH of oceans is very significant.
Brilliant!
