Biomimicry has massive potential. Why aren't designers using it?
There is no doubt, Biomimicry is a fascinating design approach of looking to nature to help solve human problems. However, why don't we see more examples of it being integrated into the design of physical products we use everyday? This video explores some of the challenges of using biomimicry in physical product design.

Just found your channel today and I must say I really enjoy your videos. Already subscribed and thank you for the effort you put in creating them.
Loved this topic, you're doing a great job of educating the designers in an exciting way. Though, you should post more often! Keep doing you!
This is an interesting (and big) topic! I tend to see a lot of design inspiration from nature which is easy, but less mimicking nature (hard). I think nature which is constantly in a cycle of renewal is often in contrast to our interaction with unnatural, manufactured environments, and our desire for product and building life-cycles to be much more permanent than many things in nature.

Hi Paul, hope you are well! Yes, very good point.
I am a fan of Janine and Biomimicry, but Mona you really have a good insights and balance to these things in perspective of design, I instantly subscribe to you. 🙂
I LOVE your videos. Please never stop doing them :)
Fascinating and informative video ❤
thanks i nvr heard of topics u taught all these are super cool and helped me to dig deeper as a collage aspirant thi really help me to levl up thank u god bless u
Great discussion points! I've always been fascinated with biomimicry, but like you, have also always found myself never really diving into it.
I think the reason the reason biomimmicry isn't used is because we live in technocratic time where tech is the new god and it's held high as well as the fact we live in a wasteful with antilife antibeauty antiexecellence messages being pushed mentally crippling artists creativity and individuality. Ironically I'm copying spider hunting strategies and what not and applying them online so your video was very synchronstic
Great innovative ideas. I just like the historical ideas for letting the new designers know that they can do something great beyond technocrats.
Hmm, very interesting to hear the practical challenges about implementation. I wonder if you've ever heard about bringing on biologists for design challenges in real world scenarios. Great video! I only wished you interviewed someone about it! Can this be a first in a series please? Haha
peaceful day, enjoyed your energy on this fascinating concept.
Great content as always keep going!

@@DesignplusMorna Thank you!!
I learned the other word, Biomimetic, from Dunlop racquets for Squash. I don't know if the concept is connected to Biomimicry

Yes, I've run into that word too. Some of the images in this video are from a book I have called Biomimetics for Designers. Depending on where you look for a definition of the concepts, Biomimetic and Biomimicry appear to be interchangeable.
Hello can u help me in my thesis topic for design ...I'm studying textile designing
Tenikle is biomimicry designed after an octopus :) great content!
Is using space and the planets fall under biomimmicry because I find it more persuasive like how the days of the week are named after planets and interestingly enough the energy we experience on those days matches/correlate the climates/biomes of those planets I think it's called space weather the informal term. (Ps if y'all want a simple way of understand nature just watch national geographic/channels of that nature pun intended as we as read biology for dummies etc hope that helps)
