Oh geez that man is wonderful and im 62 he was my favorite guy😊❤
So there I was, 10th grade… 1981, laying in bed listening to 102.5 WDVE outta Pittsburgh … At night they had a call in survey of songs called Smash or Trash … Stroke me comes on the radio… people call in and vote on the song.. either it’s a smash or trash… for the next week or so everyone in school was talking about the song, at that time we couldn’t believe that was on the radio… I’ve been a fan of Billy and his music ever since
So wish he would’ve toured in the past 20 years. Don’t Say No is a masterpiece.

I like the song but if you listed the top 1000 songs of all time it would not be on the list. Therefore, not a masterpiece!
One of the most gifted talents of the Guitar!
Looked sooo good and sounded phenomenal!
Billy Squier opened for Queen in the 80s @ Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto 🇨🇦.. great memory 4 a $20 ticket
This was the first vinyl I owned at age 8. I learned guitar playing along - every song on this album is embedded in my DNA.
Amazing this dude is so talented
Jeff Golub shredding the solos!!! Such an underrated guitarist who has played with so many people including Rod Stewart. Died way too young. Check out his other solo jazz music. It's excellent !!

This song used to always be played during intermission at Hershey Bears hockey games and it fuckin ROCKS!!!!!

Great version of Lonely is the Night. Growing up in Sydney, Australia I loved this type of rock. Unfortunately, the lack of MTV, limited pop shows that only played and were anti-guitar based rock. Only Foreigner received regular airplay and even then the ballads. I remember The Stroke by Billy Swuire as it was a Top 3 nationwide hit. I didn't hear Lonely Is the Night until years ago and was incorrectly advised that it was a Piper song.
Saw Billy as support for Whitesnake at Glasgow Apollo - good stuff
Saw this tour in Philadelphia and loved all 3 bands. Great night of music

I would've rather heard prime zeppelin rip it.
This is pretty much a Led Zeppelin song. I say there’s a little Aerosmith in it too. I love Billy Squier.
The Squier band without Kenny Aaronson is a totally different rhythm section. Bobby and Doug didn't jell too well.
I saw Billy Squier with Ratt as the opening act. He was 1000% better than Ratt, even though we went to see Ratt.

Interesting you bring up Zeppelin ... I believe Squier stole from Zeppelin's rendition of "Nobody's Fault But Mine" to create the opening riff for "Lonely Is The Night." But I also believe "Lonely Is The Night" is a better song than "Nobody's Fault." Yes, it's interesting how these things come about ...!

wow good ear I think you're right. I mean I know you're right, i think a lot of artist borrow but I'm not sure but maybe you know, I mean I'ts one thing to borrow and another thing to out right steal and I don't know if it's true or not, but I was told Zepplen in more then one incident, Zepplen actually stole for example "When the Levy breaks" and "whole lotta Love" I'm not trying to take anything away from Led Zeppen I think they are the greatest band of all time hands down. but I think you know what I'm talking about so please respond to this "did they or didn't they" I've argued this with a couple friend of mine and I could use your opinion on this

It's the same concert. At 8:43 you can see where he went off to switch guitars. No doubt for the next song which was "In The "Dark". This concert was filmed in Detroit in December 1982. You can this concert online and the company that put out the DVD says it's from 1983, hence all the videos uploaded on You Tube with that date. But it's wrong. Just a tidbit for you

The Les Paul Billy is using is a '58...and it was stolen in New York at the Power Station Recording Studio. Some think (including me) that it was an inside job. It's been about 30 years since it was stolen and Billy has offered to buy it back at full retail value (approx. $250,000), no questions asked and so far it hasn't come up.

He does have another 58 and 59 burst according to an interview I read recently but also said the one used here and later stolen was better than his current ones. I wonder if the vintage special Jeff is using is Billy’s old one he used on Don’t Say No.
Love this song and the stroke is a good one, but guy killed his career with the video for rock me tonite. It wasn’t that great a song imo, but the video was just him prancing around. Granted rock clothes started with the spandex in his day, but he’s wearing a tied up belly shirt in that video lol. The early days of mtv and music videos many were bad but his took the cake.
Kinda like Eddie and Plant put together?

One horrible video destroyed his career. Who ever talked him into doing that video should have their head examined. But it was his final decision in the end so it falls on him basically. He was known for being a guitar wiz. After that video he was known for doing arobics in tights.
Guitar out of tune.
Back then one gayish scene could ruin you, as it should be. I just wish it wasn't him.
He really butchered his own song
Great Pure Hard Rock Song. I always thought it was Led Zeppelin
