Billy Sims needs to be in the Lions ring of honor to be honest.

Billy was a Fearless runner.

One of the greatest I have ever seen in my many years. Deserves to be in the HOF.

This is incredible to see this story about Billy. I grew up a Bears Fan, but every time we watched the Lions and Billy Sims play against the Bears, we always marveled at his athleticism and his hard work playing similar to Walter Payton in a alot of ways. Now this documentary really puts more of an inspirational story about a man that just kept on pressing forward in life through many ups and downs. This is just a refreshing blessing to watch this one, with all the crazy stuff in the world today. God Bless Billy Sims.

Thank NFL Films for making this. Sims is remembered by all those who saw him play. Even though his career was cut short he still deserves the HOF. Next Brown & Payton he's the third best back I've ever seen.

Sims is one of the most remarkable running backs I ever saw. He's in my top 10 all time greatest.

I had the honor of meeting Billy at his restaurant in McAlester, OK, four or five years ago. He graciously autographed a photograph i took of him at the Hula Bowl after his senior year. He was genuinely happy to meet and talk with every person who came into his restaurant. As great a player he was on the football field, he was even better off it with his fans. Even though i grew up on the East Coast during most of his career at OU, i always had great admiration for him and now i know it was for a good reason!

Billy Sims should not only be on Detroits ring of honor, the guy should be in the Hall of Fame. Im not even a Lion fan, but it frustrates me when a Gayle Sayers is put in the Hall, but Billy is given ZERO consideration year after year, and nobody says a word. Sims career was cut short because of injury the same way as Mr. Sayers. The guy was MONEY until he blew out his knee, and had he stayed healthy, he would have been an all time great. Go look at the numbers, he was a thousand yard back and double digit TD guy every year he played near 16 games. All that on a shitty offense where they only had to gameplan for him. God bless Mr. Sims, because he doesnt say a WORD about it, but if were going to forgive one great player for being injured like Gayle Sayers, you need to be consistent and vote Billy Sims in as well. That guy would have had 10k rushing yards in his sleep if they knew how to fix knees back in the early 80s

@@sirperybLakeney What? First off, whats the point of the comment? To bash Billy Sims for no reason? Its just a trolling and unnecessary comment. Billy Sims was as good of a RB as any in history. Was he THE greatest? Maybe not, but had he not been hurt, he was every bit the HOFer that Gayle Sayers was. The dude was a beast in college, and put up monster numbers on an offense that had zero talent around him. He still ranks 8th all time in yards per game. Know what youre talking about, and if you want to pump up Gayle Sayers, fine, but dont be a troll that disrespects others to do it.

I said nothing critical about Sims -I only pointed out that comparing him to Sayers was ridiculous. Sayers was one of the most extraordianry talents in in all sports. Sims for all his greatness is not. If anything you were the one trolling saying that Sayers was 'forgiven for getting injured' to get into the HoF. You're not being realistic. I certainly agree that Sims is a worthy candidate for the HoF but he is no Gale Sayers and he is not treasured by fans the way that Sayers is -because Sayers was special.

@@sirperybLakeney Dude, if you read what I wrote, I didnt compare the two at all. The issue I have is the inconsistency of the Hall of Fame voters. Gayle and Terrell Davis were great players with terrible injuries, and were elected. Billy Sims was a great player with a terrible injury and was not. They are ALL Hall of Famers. My statement wasnt a comparison of whos better. YOU injected that into the conversation, and if you DONT know how great Billy Sims was, and DONT get that he would have ripped off atleast another 5 seasons of a thousand yards, and been first ballot, then YOU dont know anything about the history of football. The guy is 8th all time in yards per game, on a shit team, and is ahead of some of the greatest to ever play the game on that list. You say Sayers was special, and yes, he was, but Billy Sims was special as well.Who gives a shit who was better, the point is Billy was every bit the Hall of famer Sayers is.

Sims had the greatest combination of explosiveness, agility, speed & power I have ever seen. He made unbelievable plays every time we watched him.

I love it at the end when Billy greets the late Leonard Thompson and is delighted to see him again. They were best friends on the Lions and the heart of the team.

PS Why is he not in the Lions ring of fame at Ford Field?

Everyone that watched Sims play knows they saw something very special. Had he played for a different team he would probably be in the HOF.

This is the first time I saw any footage of Sims' career-ending injury. It looks brutal at that speed, and it shows how dangerous astroturf could be to athletes.

Best RB I've ever seen play. Sims is 2nd behind Brown in yards from scrimmage per game, Sanders is third. Put that man in the HOF

Sims was a spectacular back with amazing quickness, balance, power & vision. Very few players have such a high level of all those skills. I hate to admit it but he's was even better than my favorite RB Franco Harris.

SImms reminds me of Earl Campbell, great players who carried mediocre teams and got chewed up physically.

Sims is a top ten all time running back. I would put him at number 7. If he would have played for a different team instead of the last place Lions he would be in the Hall of Fame.

bad job by the surgeons...and yet another reason why we need a separate honor system similar to the hall of fame.. because as far as impact and influence on the game, Sims is in the top tier group. He came into an RB heavy league and immediately carved out his space..a lot of kids wore number 20 with the double bar face mask and white tape down the middle after him..I use to do the airplane dance into the end zone myself...his whole style and charisma influenced a generation... and there wasn't any player more FAMOUS than him in his era...
