I’m a 17 year old teenage boy, listens to rap, pop all that stuff. But my grandma introduced me to this type of music. She listens to it every morning. Got good memories of waking up in the morning while she was cooking breakfast for me, hearing these type of songs from my bedroom and while eating breakfast. So sad they don’t make music like this anymore these days! But really thankful though that I’m one of the lucky ones from my generation that gets to enjoy this type of music, just because of my dear grandma ❤️

I'm 77 and this takes me back to a when I was a young Mrs and had a short affair with a young married Mr. We parted and stayed with our partners. We both later got divorced and re-married other people. I got divorced yet again and my young Mr died of lung cancer at the age of 40.... So, it's nice to hear this song and think back to when everything was OK and care was thrown to the wind....

my grandfather was Walter Jones and my grandmother was Patricia Jones and they got married at 18 and 19. my gran told us how my grandpa used to make the dj play this song when they went to the dance just so he could slow dance with her..... they were married for 36 years before he passed on and to me they were the best example of unconditional love. I was about 8 yrs old riding a bus from Bangor or Lawrence Michigan to our work camp after summer school and heard this song on the bus. Our drivers name was Mr. Jones. Nice guy (black) and all of us Hispanic kids. Gosh I miss my childhood. Great times. More like an adventure instead of work. Mr. Jones was/is a good man. We all really liked him. I’m now 60 and wonder what ever happened to him. Probably passed on. RIP Mr. Jones. We never told you but you were a great and respected man. Great memories. I think of him every time I hear this song.

New funk and soul are out there. You just didn't grow up with the new names. Cory Wong; Vulfpeck; and others. The vocals are not always there and will NEVER be this smooth. I met someone 40 years my junior and she was a funk fan too. She is turning me on to a variety of new stuff. Some of it is powerful and some of it is ~Meh~. Just like all of the genres. Seek the funk and ye shall find it.

@@redlightspellsdanger7177 I met Teddy P when I bartended at the Westwood Marquis in Westwood UCLA area in LA. Nice man, he was paralyzed from the wreck at that time. This was the mid-90s -I had always listened to Teddy P even though I was a farm boy from Iowa and told him that - I listened to him back in the 70s so it was great to meet him.

65 years young here. Still listening.

This is a fantastic song. The story of a man having a secret rendezvous with his lover. Billy Paul certainly puts his heart and soul into this song. It is funny how when I hear certain songs, they transport me back to a certain era. I know this song was released in 1973, but it actually makes me think of so much more from that time. A great song, that is a brilliant classic from that jukebox era.

Met Billy Paul briefly late one night when he pulled in to a gas station where I was working. He was on His way to San Francisco from LA on I-5. Got out of His car and we talked while I pumped His gas. A true gentleman, soft- spoken and treated me like a friend.

I did not know that.....I know this is always being said by someone, somewhere, but I feel we are in a steeply accelerating cultural decline. When I was a kid in school, some teased school band members about plating instruments, but mostly we all envied them. It did - and still does to me - seem like a magical skill that anyone could make music happen. Music is yet one more fascinating ever-shifting shard of life's kaleidoscope that glorifies the experience of being alive.

Hannah Shook I am a former drummer and would bet even though it's been several years since I actually played , I bet I could still pick up a pair of sticks ?And lay down a pretty steady beat for other musicians to play by. In the end here I'm a musician and at 60 years of age am damn proud to say I have a gift to both play and enjoy music. Performing arts isn't for just anyone. Let that be a schooling to those who scoff at musicians and music.

I think some people miss the true meaning of this song. It's not about just having an affair..it's about the vunerability in all of us . Each and every one of us could at some time on our lives have fallen from grace. The tragedy of those events is beautifully displayed here. A love hopeful yet hopelessly on a path that will no doubt end in emotional devistation...the beauty of being a weak human...not often someone can put those feelings in a song and make us feel it.

I've listened to Billy Paul since 1972, and will keep listening to this jam for amother fifty years! 👍🏿

I remember very well, as a boy of 8, listening in the back seat of my dad's 1978 Oldsmobile Delta 88 trying to go to sleep. It was rainy outside, and I thought it was a good, chill song. It never occurred to me, while I was that little boy, that the song was about a dude messing around with another man's wife. 🤣🤣🤣

Before my husband passed away we adopted 3of our grandkids... we would be riding in the SUV when this came on all of us would be singing at the topof our lungs...now every time we are together we play this song and sing it loudly so my husband can hear it in heaven.

This man’s voice was so smooth and soulful to hear. This was such a beautiful ballad. The arrangement, the strings, laid back sax, the background vocals and of course Billy’s soulful vocals make this a milestone in soul music.
