I'm sitting here sipping on Bourbon looking at the window 75° feeling the breeze I can see my son's face my only son I lost the heroin I failed as a father I'm not looking for no pity party I'm just looking at his face in the clouds but I can't hear his voice this song in this man is a blessing to my life my son was like a brother more than a son and being a lone wolf no hand to hold on to just the bulldog Maybelline and Al Green my man

You didn't fail. Were Heroin legal and over the counter as it was in the 1800s your son might very well be alive, as would at least two people I knew; no one questions why the government suddenly decided the regulation of people's moods, and other mental states was fair domain for tyranny and causing more problems than the drugs themselves typically, nor does anyone question why despair is so prevalent; it all goes way past the dinner-table. And in the 1920s that same darling government also decided you couldn't have your Bourbon either.

@@damonpitt2528 I'm 59 and can't tell you how I made it this far, but I can tell you I almost didn't because of theme of another song by Al I just saw on the Midnight Special, 1974: " I'm Tired Of Being Alone," which I'm now writing a poem about as it's the greatest truth ever told. Remember that many people use drugs not for pleasure, but to kill the pain and despair of being tired of being alone; and they use drugs including H to exit this world because of this epidemic of loneliness & sadness, versus aloofness, & even viciousness, so they choose to leave as nothing is on the horizon. This whole world has to get well, which is another thing than just not being sick. But the world is sick. Really sick. Al Green's song is truer today in 2022 than in 1974, and everyone needs to do something about it. I'm sorry about your son. Your grief must be beyond comprehension. But you feel it. Therefore you did not cave into the plastic- numb advertised life which so many people now have, which of course worsens everything. So you are a hero of emotionality. It takes guts to feel. It takes guts not to hide feeling. DON'T ever believe anyone saying that it's easy or trivial, as it is one of the last things proving humanity left.

I turned sixty on November 16th, My youngest son of two turned 26 on the 14th. I used to talk to him everyday three four times a day, He made me upset on thanksgiving day. I have not talked to him since. Maybe I'll call him after reading this. God bless you and praying for you. I would lose my mind if I lost my baby. It 's been a week yesterday since I talked to him.

I lost my best friend three days ago and her newborn boy as well. she put up with such a hard life, my family and i accepted her into ours, we gave her her 18th birthday , she is my soulsister. and he is my godson. we were one❤️ her birthday was on the 13th of May, 3 days later she passed due to an asthma attack at the age of 22 and so did her babyboy. we had him on life support but unfortunately there wasnt brain activity. I feel as though a part of me left with her. Life does not feel real whatsoever. But I know we will meet again one day. I am trying my damnest to hang on for my loved ones and them! I saw many other people's stories and goodness. God bless everybody that is here going through it. We need to hold on to the light. God got us. 🤞

I miss him, I didn't mature fast enough to tell him the world he taught me, the heart he gave me or how much I loved him and thank him cus I had a father, a daddy the 1 real man I ever had in my life. Or That I understood our life and i thank GOD i had him. That time has passed. I come here to see his face or see his laugh and sometimes to remember a story.

This is the absolute best version of this song ever recorded, without exception. Reverend Al put so much soul into this Bee Gees classic that it's almost an entirely different song...and his pleading and emotion builds throughout. Just. So. Good....

This is the slickest and most romantic song hands down
Lyrics I can think of younger days when living for my life Was everything a man could want to do I could never see tomorrow I was never told about the sorrow And how can you mend a broken heart? How can you stop the rain from falling down? Tell me, how can you stop the sun from shining? What makes the world go 'round? How can you mend a this broken man? Yeah How can a loser ever win? Somebody please help me mend my broken heart And let me live again, la-la, la-la, la I can still feel the breeze that rustles through the trees And misty memories of days gone by But we could never see tomorrow Would you believe that no one, no one ever told us about the sorrow? So how can you mend a broken heart? And mine is How can you stop the rain from falling down? Baby How can you stop that old sun from shining? What makes the world go 'round? And sometime I have to say, yeah, say La-la-la, la-la-la, uh-huh, yeah La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la, tell me Help me mend my, my broken heart I just wanna, I just wanna, I just wanna, I just wanna I just wanna live again, baby How can you mend this broken man? Yeah, somebody tell me How can a loser ever win? 'Cause, baby Help me mend my, this old broken heart I think I, I believe I I feel like I got to, I feel like I wanna live again How can you mend, ah, this broken heart? Somebody please tell me How can you stop the rain from falling down? I know my clothes are all wet, tell me How can you mend my, please help me mend my broken heart I think I, I believe I, I've got a feeling that I want to live and live and live La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la La-la-la La

I had the honor of meeting Reverend Al on Sunday, November 13th, 2022, at his church in Memphis. He prayed for me, and was so personable, sweet, and so down to earth! I cried the entire service 😂. He has no idea that I got his name tattooed over my heart in 2010, but I’m pretty sure he figured out at some point that I was a super fan! 😊❤

Only God can mend a broken 💔 of a mother who lost her daughter. ✨ I will see you soon, Thea. Wait for me.💛
This is Barry Gibbs favorite cover of one of his songs. I can only imagine Barry's response when Al Green and his people asked the Bee gees for permission to record this song. Al Green is one of the greatest singers of his generation. If I could have been a fly on the wall during that conversation.😊
This song gets me through some very tough times. I’m glad my mother was brought up in this era and passed it along to me and I passed it along to my children… #algreen#classic

Al has the soul, but imagine the talent that created this song! Al was given perfectly written thoughts to mold his version, but I still think the BeeGees nailed it. If you knew the circumstances that the song was written under, you might agree. And three part harmony by brothers is an instrument that nobody else has.

@@DouglasLippi…you are correct. Being a song historian, I know that Al sang this to bring his world together as it was falling, and this was a turning point for him in his life. However, The Bee Gees had broken up and Barry was so distraught about it, he wrote this song except for the bridge, called Robin and Maurice, and Robin came over, helped him finish the song but the couldn’t get the words at the end, and when they played it for Maurice, he said he would be right over, and together, they finished the song, and a major bro hug, tears, and a promise to listen to each other more. This was a major Number One Hit for them, as people like myself were so happy they were back together again. The song was offered to Andy William, by the way, who turned it down, as the Brothers made it so popular, that he didn’t want the song. However, a good 50 plus different renditions were made in the first 25 years after the song as they also wrote at the same time, “Lonely Days”, and they had hits back to back, reaffirming their genius for songwriting, when this was released. Everyone famous wanted the song, as it is so heart rendering. However, it was originally meant for the brothers, but became popular for other reasons. Rev Al places a fabulous spin on it. I just love it. But it was not written for him. Good call. A great song indeed.😎👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻♥️✌🏼♥️🙏🏼♥️✌🏼♥️⭐️♥️

FUN FACT: I just saw a video about the Radiohead song "Nude" which discussed how the band sat on that song for a decade as they were trying to capture a vibe similar to this Al Green classic and didn't want to release it unfinished. The final song sounds very different to Green's but the influence can be heard and it's a wonderfully haunting song in it's own right. If you're looking for more modern music with a similar soulful edge then I'd suggest giving it a spin.

When the álbum Let's Stay Together, late night d j kelson " chop- chop fisher was offering the álbum as the prize for the best essay on how to mend a broken heart, to my surprise I heard him call my name as the winner of that álbum, today in 2023 I still have it in my collection and sometimes I just want to listen to it and remember when.

My dad worked for Hammond Organ Company from the early 1950s to the mid 70s. He was a wood finisher and would patch any scratches in the cabinetry at the end of the assembly process so they were in excellent condition when shipped out Every time I go to a concert and see a classic B3 organ and leslie speaker I wonder if it was one he inspected and put his hands on. A classic sound not reproduced by all our modern electric keyboards

I love this song and Al Green. Yes indeed! My generations after me all have been introduced to my music. My brother and nephew both made me Al Green playlists. My 32 year old son and his 7 seven year old both rock my music. I've given them all my vinyl albums except for 60. I wear KZread out playing my music. I always felt like "How Can You Mend A Broken Heart" should have been a gospel song. When I sing it I direct it at the Lord. Love this song. To me, Only God can heal the brokenness being cried out in this song. I lost my husband on December 15th of 2022. I miss him so much.
Would love to see an Al Green biopic released by a major studio.
