Ringo Starr was inducted that same year (Paul was there to give the induction speech), and in an interview he gushed about being inducted with Bill Withers. He may not have been a mega superstar, but he was a musician's musician, a singer's singer, and a writer's writer. He was the real deal, and all his peers knew it and recognized it.

No shade on Withers but the Rock and Roll hall of fame has snubbed a lot of great singers and bands. While giving the nod to a lot of trash.

OK (white guy here) ...so I grew up hearing this guy's music since my dad was a musician and I remember him telling me that there is quality music and you will know it when you hear it. Quality is color blind. It's either quality or it's not. I remember playing his Bill Wither's album one day on his stereo and I said, "This guy is so good!" and he just winked at me and said, "Now you are getting the picture!" As an added bonus, Bill Withers was a class act as a person too. This music is just pure perfection!

Bill Withers is important to me because he was one of my Dad's most favorite singers. I was introduced to his music in the family living room where Dad used to play his records. After Dad passed away, Bill Withers music brought him back to me. Now they're both gone. But I'm not sad. The music keeps them both alive in my life.

Aint no sunshine is just one of those great great songs Jamel. I had to listen again as soon as I saw you’d reacted to it. So good, so damned good, this song always did get to me and nothings changed over the years (tears in my eyes as I type this) .... the great late Bill Withers..... let me listen one more time. Thank you and damn you for playing this.

You’re not alone, I often know the songs, but not the artist’s name. “Lean On Me” has a very special place in my heart. My dad was a Lutheran minister in the 70’s. Our congregation sang it a lot. It was, and still is, a hymn to me.

I’m 46 yo and music is my life, it’s taken me through good times and bad and I have playlists for what mood I’m in. I was lucky to be introduced to Motown and a lot of music from the 70s, at a young age. Even at aged 10 I was into Michael Jackson and other artists but I still took my mums and stepdads records and listen to the classics, I would play Simon and Garfunkel, ABBA, Rolling Stones, and other various albums I could find but Motown was always my favourites. I was brought up with my gran as well so I heard a lot of stuff from the 40s & 50s too like the Rat pack etc..and I still love them all today. Beautiful and timeless Nina Simone, Al green, Marvin Gaye, Stevie wonder 😍 Diana Ross and the supremes, Roberta flack, the Jackson 5 omg so so many. Music has saved me many times and I feel it’s a universal love for everyone ❤️
