I bought Tesla shares not because I hope to profit, I bought them to have some hope in the future. I’m not billionaire, if I can take that attitude, so can you. Unless money is more important to you, evidently it is.

I bought Tesla for my kids to maybe make them a better future and i bought TSLA for the same reason, that my grand children have some cash in the future when climate changes much more rapidly and forces millions of refugees to seek the safety of our country. Maybe some more money will help them secure their place in the world. I would not mind doing the same with Toyota, VW, Ford but they still want to drive the world on fossil poisonous fumes. Not with my company, my family, me. Nowhere and never again.

Shorting a company doesn't affect its fundamentals in any way... It has NO IMPACT on its ability to produce, deliver, profit etc. Also, EVs aren't a better solution to climate change than regular cars, as you break even with emissions after 90k miles and you end up with tons of lithium batteries which are hard to recycle...

@@loremeuc81 A lower stock price can impact ability to raise money, ability to raise debt and can affect employment in the company in the long run especially where ESOPs are used. Besides I never said I was against the concept of short selling. I believe short selling is a necessary thing to keep markets rational. However the discussion is not about short selling. It’s about shorting a stock that is pushing for climate change, when you’re supposed to be a supporter of climate change. To Elon’s point, Gates shouldn’t short the stock if he believes Tesla can help bring about such change. That’s the issue being discussed here.

Change what world? I don't like neither them. Did you ever try to figure out how Tesla battery raw materials are digged in Congo or processed in China? If one has any concern with climate change or human right, he/she cannot associate Elon with those. I am confident we will get a different battery technology to replace the current one, but until then we cannot say Electric battery is any better than fossil fuel.

You have to understand, shorting a stock means lowering the value a company can raise via stock sale/bond offering for example.. Tesla does not need any more cash but if you really want to short high value companies, there are many more out there which does not affect your vision..

That tesla is gonna have a ridiculous 50 percent of the ev market and tesla robots are going to take over and go to work for everyone and teslas energy will become worth more than all the oil companies combined and that they will be the only people doing autonomous driving? Because if that is the big picture sorry to tell you but a lot of it is very unrealistic and will likely not work out that way. Sure they will be a successful company in my opinion but not as much as you think. Tesla is a great company but the stock is in nose bleed valuations. You would be paying for decades of growth buying at these levels. Do you honestly think tesla will be a 5 trillion dollar company? because buying at these levels that is what you would be betting on. Sorry to tell you just because they are a leader now deosnt mean they will be forever. Remember IBM in the 90's, remember GE? Innovative companies look good but it doesn't guarantee leadership forever. There are competitors in every market tesla is in and they have money to invest and will continue to invest to take as much share as they can in these markets. So thinking that tesla will be the only player in all these markets and even having such a massive amount of the market share forever is missing the big picture.

It’s a $500m position, Elon just sold billions worth of stock and has margin loans on billions more. We don’t even know what Gates’ full portfolio looks like, the shorts could be part of a hedging strategy. Don’t be silly, nobody who knows this stuff actually think Gates’ short position has any negative impact on Tesla’s ability to fight climate change.
