As an African in Africa ,this makes me skeptical. I hope that as they want to help us with AI they will also help with providing water and electricity to these schools before bringing in AI and there is a huge shortage of medication in most hospitals aswell, which makes the AI effort futile if not dealt with.

This interview could've been strictly a PR piece for the companies developing AI or focused on the common AI worries, but you actually talked about some deep and complex problems and asked Bill Gates about them. People like Bill are actually working on getting things done, while we are sitting in a chair watching other people do things.

I literally had the idea of a chatbot talking to patients about their diseases and am in the final stages of developing the chatbot. I thought it was just a dumb project and was deciding to just put it on my resume and forget about it. i didn't think bill gates was thinking the same thing😂. Btw I'm in Nigeria so i definitely see why it is needed I'm still going to finish up the project. And now I'm going to apply for an internship at Microsoft because it seems we have the same ideals. One such horror scenario would be that once everyone just listens to their ai on how to live, companies will get a big incentive to pay for being mentioned more. Imagine Cola or Mc Donalds paying Microsoft to represent them more in questions about nutrition. They could make a whole nation obese with just their influence and lead to horrendous medical treatment needed just for making dollars.... wait.... we already have that. Well can't get any worse then, can it?

There is a thin line between support and replacement. AI shouldn't replace humans, it should only help and support them with their tasks. We definitely can't start depending on AI, as humans would be pointless at some point. We basically need AI to be the assistant, with the human being the boss. Yes, this may change the job market by a good bit. But I'm sure humanity won't let itself become futile

I just wanted to know why was there an uproar against any Bill Gates funded projects... Cuz I REALLY love an infographic channel called KURZGESAGT and there is always a war going on in the comments about how it "may be influenced" by business propagandas of huge companies like THE GATES FOUNDATION... So much so that Kurzgesagt had to make a dedicated video about the issue explaining that the foundation or sponsors only provided financial support and had no input in the source material or the topics discussed there... It made me a little bit skeptical to the Gates Foundation as well... But seeing these videos and interviews, I am like, "Huh!!?? So what's that going on over there..?? As everything seems pretty sorted out here" If anyone has any insight on the issue, please let me know, I genuinely want to be educated about this whole scenario and I don't have time to research actual allegations or reports...

Bill Gates is a public figure. These people know exactly how to act engaged and positive, regardless of what they're actually thinking. They avoid potentially controversial answers in a skilled manner, like the question about the favorite youtuber. That question surprised Bill and he had to really think about how to phrase the answer to remain neutral. Most of his answers are lowkey adverts about his company's services. It's nothing but a PR stunt.

Unless you have an amazing idea, maybe the first step is to find a friend or two with a similar mindset, and to talk about it with them. Entrepreneurs (like Gates) will always tell you that they had help, friends and colleagues and are just the face of it. There's always something that can be done, but it's incredibly hard to make a big leap completely solo. I hope you find a project you can sink your teeth into that makes a difference - but it doesn't have to be dramatic to be incredibly meaningful for people.

Fantastic video Arun! To the concerns you already raised, i would also like to add the fact that since AI can do so many things, the threat of it being used maliciously is incredibly high right now. The most noteworthy and terrifying example is it's use in last election on Slovakia. AI is incredibly hard to control and allows misinformation on a scale never seen before. I'm just afraid that we accidentally opened a pandora's box.

That Bill Gates guy looks like a cool dude, he should have a company

I enjoyed the discussion in the video about AI in Africa. I'm interested in pitching an idea, either to the keynote speaker or even to you, regarding my final year project at university. I believe it can be upscaled for use in Africa, as I have a strong sense that the challenges I'm addressing aren't limited to Zimbabwe only.

Enjoyed this! Gave me a lot to think about as a young woman working in data and health in Africa. If we're gonna have tailor-made solutions for the continent more of us need to start getting interested in AI there's so many solutions it's offering for our biggest problems

Bill Gates has done a lot if help and philanthropy in medicine in Africa. But he also is banned in a lot of the countries in Africa too. Probably because some of his experiments led to women having infertility. But stuff happens.

This was probably the best explanation on how ai could evolve for the better 😀

He lies regularly@@yungmodulusone . for example in this video: "I kept challenging the people at microsoft openai" They have purchased everything 'open' and closed it. search why people don't trust him on brave. google and bing are lost to censorship.

⁠​⁠@@yungmodulusoneAlso anti-competitive amongst other things. But yes Bill Gates has done good things. Does not always mean we have to trust him seeing his mixed activities over the past. 1 example is Jeffery Epstein.

It's crazy how a few years ago Arun was making videos on smartphones in his bedroom, and now he is literally talking with some of the greatest tech geniuses on saving the world with tech!! 😃

Yes and Bill Gates wouldn’t even look at Arun nevertheless talk to him if he didn’t have 16 million plus audience!! It’s a puff piece for Bill and views for Arun it’s just to bad he didn’t ask him any tough questions on what Bill will not help with like reliable cheap electricity!! Which would help people in every way!! Ai is the result of wealth not the path to it!!

I mean these type of interviews you get like 30m, and the questions gets verified by someone else in advance (bill doesn't see the questions). You also probably have to sign something to make sure you don't damage the reputation or whatever or you get sued if you don't respect what u signed. We all wanted juice questions, we will never get them.
