Favorite part of this interview “Where’s my phone? Oh wait! I’m on my phone!”
Bill mentioned the drummer for Russian Circles but couldn't recall his name, which is Dave Turncrantz. Everything he said about him was right on point. Dave is such an under the radar badass. I'm glad to hear Bill giving such an underappreciated musician some love.

I’m a professional touring drummer and knew Bill played drums but I was really blown away by how much knowledge he has about the craft. And especially taking lessons from Dave Elitch? That guy’s a monster. What a great episode!

Bill Burr did a "pumpkin beer" sketch on *SNL* that was a masterpiece!
I'm only 1:04 into it, but thinking Dana, David, Norm, and Bill all in the same room together. Man, I wish there was footage of some of this. I always thought it'd be funny to see Norm and Bill together.
Hearing them talk about drumming along with the bands Meshuggah, the Beatles, Slayer, Killing Joke, Led Zepplin and Queens of the Stone Age made my day!
"Change Bank" With David Spade was one of my favorites which I still quote when I talk about that fake commercial, hilarious!
Love the podcast guys , i met Dana in Vancouver after his show at the hard rock he was very gracious and kind taking a picture with my late father and I and instead of saying something witty I said "I have 9 stents......" and he says without missing a beat "That's Super, take care of yourself" lol
Thinking of the 80's and now, I am so grateful that Podcast exist.
Why the hell haven’t I heard of this podcast before? Subbed.
I could listen to Bill and Dana talk drums all day. Didn't know Bill is into Meshuggah and Russian Circles, that makes my day. Great episode.

Bill is only into Meshuggah because he wants to be cool with his listeners. Yes, he acknowledges the skill level needed to play like they do, but he doesn't really like it for regular listening. Truth is, he can't listen to more than one 5 minute clip of them, it's too noisy.

The fans don't care if you 2 Video this on your iPhone. This is a duo I didn't see coming. Great Ep.👌🏽
Love Bill. GREAT to hear Steven Adler getting some love, too. The drumming on Appetite gave those songs an energy and vibe that people may not appreciate at first glance.
I have lost track of how many Fly on the Wall episodes i have watched now and i have loved them all, but i have noticed David has some funny jokes or funny things he’ll slide into the conversations and no one seems to notice. Maybe it’s my type of humor and that’s why i get it, but to me it deserves more recognition. I hear you David. You are seen 😂. I love this pod. And no, David did not pay me to type this into the comment section….i swear……. (c’mon David, $5…really?)
Dana has previously mentioned the legendary Neil Young SNL performance of “Rockin’ In The Free World”. Bill Burr mentions his favorite Drummer, Steve Jordan. Young’s Drummer for SNL that night was Steve Jordan! Watch it again and witness how Jordan drives that Band!
I always feel like Louis CK is like the proverbial “elephant in the room” in these conversations because he was among the best and top comedians in so many of these venues for so long. It’s like he’s now “he who must not be named.” I know the whole reason but you still can’t change history. I did see one of his recent shows and honestly it was some of his funniest stuff ever.

Burr sounds like a bunch of my buddies, love his passion for music, always liked Dana's music connection, and Spade you were good too. Love the show, listen all the time, keep it up please.
1:13:02 Bill mentions Dave Grohl playing with the band Killing Joke the irony here is that Killing Joke threatened to sue Nirvana over the fact that _Come As You Are_ sounded like KJ's song _Eighties_ - Killing Joke never pursued any such thing after Kurt Cobain's death - true story
The drum chat was my favorite part of this cast!
Burt Crusher is the Popvov of comedy. To each it’s own.
So good to have all my favorites in one space! Thrilled to come across this! Going to binge them all now.
Hybernol is probably my favorite SNL commercial. Every time I get sick, I think of it.
Bill, You feel those drum/drummers. I love your passion about it! How can ya not listen to you rant about it. Steven Adler highly underrated.
Love how humble David and Dana are… I grew up watching you David. You are the best. And I saw Dana live. Funny as shit! He got everyone at Iowa state fair to laugh
Steven Adler has always been my favorite drummer. I saw him a few months ago in a small, half filled club. Bill’s theory of how he influenced drums in the 90’s is something I’ve been saying for years.

Gotta leave another comment just to correct something Bill said about Them Crooked Vultures. He said they took a “hired gun” on the road with them for their tour…that “hired gun” is actually one of the most underrated musicians and producers around, named Alain Johannes. Just look him up and check out how many amazing records and artists he’s been involved with. He and his wife (RIP) helped Chris Cornell with his masterpiece solo album “Euphoria Mourning.” He also helped mix / record a lot of the best Queens of the Stone Age material. He is FAR more than just a hired gun. I know Billy will never read this comment but hopefully some day someone fills him in on this legend.
@DannyKopij
Жыл бұрын
In his defense- anyone who's not part of the core lineup of a band that plays alongside them for live or studio purposes is generally a hired gun in some capacity regardless of how revered and skilled they are outside of that. Johannes is a legend but hes also known for being a reliable and consistent hired gun.
@johnulcer
Жыл бұрын
@@DannyKopij i get your point, but imo, hired gun usually implies that someone is brought in after the fact to fulfill a position but who has very little creative input or substance basically, but is just there to fill a role and is usually sort of a faceless session musician. I guess my point was that he’s a lot more than just a generic stand-in, and has been responsible for a lot of great work, including projects with Homme, and has a distinct creative voice.

I met Alain here in Santiago's airport in February of 2014. I was speaking to him in english and he stopped me and asked if i spoke in spanish, and i froze and whimpered "si..." and he was like "Ah pero hablemos español entonces!", and i felt like an idiot, but he was cool about it. I had totally forgotten he's half Chilean.

@@johnulcer most hired guns have great credentials... which is how they get hired... its not like being picked last in dodgeball. Hired gun is not a derogatory term. But I get what your saying, when referring to a great artist "hired gun" is more of an understatement than an acknowledgment.

Loved this pod! I don’t think you guys had to preface the drum talk. I know NOTHING about drumming but learned so much about it from your conversation! You guys threw out names that makes me want to look them up on KZread etc. Bravo, gentlemen! Oh, David…I totally remember your set on the Young Comedians show!!!! ❤
Bill Burr's accurate comment about relevance and how to stay relevant. That is the Truth. And speaks to everything else that's going on in our lives. Comedians provide a space in our consciousness. It's the Ah's and Ha's thst strike a chord . A special note is heard all at once your audience gets it. Sparks !
I’m so excited and happy that you’re mentioning my friends!
Nice Gregg Allman I’m no Angel reference. ❤
As a drummer I enjoyed the deep dive into that part of his life! Great stuff. When you’re young you want the huge kit that all the rockers had in the 70s and 80s, and all the acoustic and electronic toys that Neil Peart had to be able to play along to those complex arrangements. But you eventually learn to also study and appreciate the details in drummers that do a lot with so little. Max Weinberg is another favorite- just absolutely kills on a kit made of the essentials.
The car commercial David is talking about is the Chameleon XLE. I had that episode on tape. My dad walked in while I was watching it and asked if it was real. 4 exposed rims, one in school bus yellow!
We should petition to get Spade to replace James Cordon at the Late Late Show.
Regarding drummers, Mikko Sirén, the drummer from the Finnish metal band, Apocalyptica is one of the best drummer around. I've seen the band live a couple of times. They also did live concerts on KZread and this man is the real deal!
Love show keep it flowing

For me, it’s cuz I literally grew up with Ted Bundy & Gary Ridgeway (Green River Killer). I don’t watch those murder shows much anymore because I learned as much as there is to learn. I’ve had a few stalkers & random encounters & in 1 case, a constant, lifetime problem with a relative, but I’m not the dingy timid type & am very careful & conspicuous. When so go on a 1st date, I make my date give his I.D. to a roommate or relative to write down his info. Been an insomniac night owl since very young childhood & have always walked around in the dark, inside & outside. My fav line when I go out to smoke is “Perimeter Check!”. And I really do perimeter checks! I also make friends, boyfriends & family members do it too so it is known that we are all over the property all the time at staggered times. I have some great stories thwarting perverts’ plans or impulse behaviors.

Never really saw anything too "dirty" because for the most part it was on basic cable, (stuff like Evening at the improve and shows like that, they had a ton of those in the late 80's early 90's) But I remember David Spade from his early stand up, he was good enough that he really stood out even back then, the biggest thing I remember is he used to do this great Impression of Tom Petty.
