Yep. I have been on the road for 20 years. Zero accidents. When people hear that, they say "you must be incredibly lucky". I always respond with "a little luck but a whole lot more skill". When someone pushes further and asks what I mean. I say that I'm lucky that I haven't had any unavoidable accidents. I could have however had literally a hundred accidents where it would have been the other driver's fault. The skill is avoiding accidents where it wouldn't have been the other drivers fault, but I had the skill to get out of the way. By age 20 I had taken multiple defensive drivers courses and it must have stuck.

3:30 what i don't get about this is that the second one is totally preventable. The second car has room to go in, as the biker is was not in the lane when they started switching. The biker then decides to switch lanes while the car in front is turning in and rev bombs them like it's the car's fault the biker switched lanes to create a space conflict?

  • @corkey159

The car was also already indicating as well. A lot of bikers don't realise that they are the problem weaving in and out of traffic. You literally cannot see bikes from a car sometimes, especially when they are in between lanes. Just because they can see the car doesn't mean the car can see them.

As a new two-wheeler and 70-year-old, it is interesting and instructive to watch these videos from the two-wheeler's perspective. What strikes me is that the dangerous situations often occur caused by the motorcyclists not synchronizing with the traffic rhythm. It is a bad combination with the fact that they are less visible than cars. I bought a scooter 150cc Honda Sh which is good enough to enjoy a wonderful ride and with enough power to follow the rhythm of traffic except on the highway. It's nicer to drive leisurely on smaller roads with as little testosterone in the body as cubic cm in the engine😀. You don't have to drive aggressively just because there's a lot of horsepower between your legs😇❤️.

The one at 22:35 looks like the Eyrieux Valley (or looks incredibly similar) in South east france, in Ardèche. I know this curve very well. In this region you have a lot of curve that looks like they have a smaller curvature than the reality. I myself almost overshoot like the guy in the video the first time I rode on this road. Every blind turn on this road should be considered Orange stage, except when you take it every week for years, it is a road that gives you a feeling of safety and quite large (for French rural roads), but has several sudden trap for unattentive or overconfident riders. If you ever go to France and ride there or are near there, I highly recommend this road though, it's pretty and fun if you are careful.

Of course turning left while there is traffic coming towards you is always a bad thing- but one thing I‘m not sure about at ~ 18:00 is the following: There are driveways all the way to the left (-> residential area?). Shouldn‘t there be a 25mph speed limit (or where I live f.e. 50kph)? I can‘t really tell from the video, but it seems faster and in that case the car driver won‘t suspect oncoming traffic at f.e. 40mph.

Hey Dan, appreciate your work. Near low side on left hander 23:15 the rider is counter leaning, this is a skill error that feels safe at lower speeds but eventually it will catch the rider out. If the rider were leaning inside (instead of outside) then any drift in the back tire can be corrected by the rider lowering the centre of gravity and standing the bike up whilst counter steering to maintain (or even tighten) cornering radius. Thanks for the vids and the commentary.

Dan. The UK bike tests pretty much INSIST that you ride in the center (2). Advanced riding training then modifies that. But, the UK bike tests (you have multiple tests to take to get a licence, and it is really hard to pass) take so long to train for, that riding in the center is ingrained by the time you take the final test. Insane, but, tests only prove you can pass a test. You then spend some time unlearning all the bad stuff you had to do. It is why so few young people now bother to take a bike test in the UK. The tests were made hard to pass due to the high accident rate where poor decisions by the riders was the cause. Even now, my biker cop friend tells me that in the bike deaths he investigates, 75% could have been prevented/avoided by the biker following the guidance you give. That is a really sad statistic.

  • @jvillain9946

You can still learn to progressive brake with abs. Abs only triggers during abrupt hard stops and you will hear the brakes skipping. So practice pushing your braking til you hear that skip and you will know where the limits of brake lock occurs and learn how to prevent it. Its more about gently loading your front suspension while incrementally increasing brake pressure. You just dont squeeze the brakes as hard as you can everytime like a bicycle.

Leave the ducks with the jeeps. Secondly, his space cushion was horrendous making the lane change, and I could be mistaken, but looked like a solid white line the cones were on, so was he trying to pass traffic on the shoulder? That's not good either

Not the BMW fault, because the motorcycle was wheelieing, which is illegal, and his headlight not visible.

still think lane filtering outside stoplights is just a recipe for disaster. People cant differentiate a car with a bike next to it in the mirror vs a single vehicle.

Also, nobody is checking for someone that far back. Even in cases where they aren't splitting or filtering. Some of these bikers come SPEEDING up to cars, and then get mad they didn't see them. The "get out of my way" attitude is insanity. Even if a car doesn't LEGALLY have the Right of Way, the laws of physics says they do.

If the BMW has the motorcycle doing a wheelie, the motorcycle will probably be found to be at fault due the fact they were driving recklessly. The BMW could argue that they were trying to get out of the way, but did not know what the motorcycle was going to do. You are at fault for all accidents when doing a wheelie. 15:32

it's like... so many of these, where the rider is at fault, they think they're the kings of the road, just because they can move about quicker, but also snowflakes for being easy to hit and knock off the bikes. Play it easy folks, like Dan said, play defensively, and just enjoy the fact you're riding

I don’t respect wheelies. You’re at increased risk on two wheels by default. Take one wheel away and you increase the risk even further. Two wheels down and enjoy the ride. Wheelies endanger others and yourself.

How dare you suggest we "roll of the throttle". As a rider if another vehicle makes you have to stop accelerating or slow down, that is considered assault. God forbid if they make you touch your brakes because they deserve full unrestrained retribution. These are our roads. We should be able to ride as fast and dangerously as we want without concern for other vehicles. If we're letting them drive on our roads, they need to make us their primary attention at all times and stay tf out of the way.

3:11 The irony here is just astounding. Lane filtering is intruding in others people's space. "Hey that's fine! I'm just lane filtering here!" But as soon as you perceive that happening to you. "Hey watch it asshole car drivers! Why don't you look where you are going!" Because they can't see you douchebag. They saw the two cars in both lanes behind them and they had room to move over. Cars don't see morons splitting the gaps between cars. I could care less if it's deemed legal or not. That situation is on you.

What about professional racers that do controlled wheelies to stabilize the bike over uneven terrain and to accelerate quicker?
