he also should have swerved and applied the brakes at the same time. idk about everyone else but doing these at the same time in such a situation is second nature to me. that’s what’s great about bikes, if you don’t have enouh space to stop, you won’t just crash into what’s in front of you like in a car, you can swerve.

@@TheKingsapostle Respectfully, I disagree. Did he apply the brakes quickly? yes. But the rider is equally responsible for being equally oblivious to the situation. Both operators were not paying attention to their surroundings. For the Car operator, it was him not noticing someone queued up at the ped-xing. For the Motorcycle rider, it was for not anticipating people needing to make emergency maneuvers, including breaking to avoid hazard or injury to themselves or others. My grandpa used used to say the same thing to me every time he was teaching me to drive. "Unless you want 'I had the right of way' written on your tombstone, slow down and pay attention, bubba." You are the only person you can rely on to keep you safe. Don't betray yourself by expecting others to be safe for you.
6:15 - Best lesson ever! No matter whose fault it is, if we can avoid it ourselves by being observant, we can just ride on! Easy as that!
That red section in the first video is at the same level as the street (maybe a bike lane?), so it is a very good escape path. The curb was a few more feet to the right.

2:45 Riders fault, all day long.
4:28 that road is not only wet, it looks like it is *always* wet -- high water in the ditches. I live near roads like this and they're often extra slimy, either biofilm or thin layer of silt from the ditch water. That stuff is like ice when it gets re-wetted. 15:15 what is it with riders cruising in blind spots and expecting cars to check them? It just doesn't happen, meaning I never stay in one if I can help it.
09:55 It JUST happened that they ALL just bought their bikes hence no tags lol. Im actually amazed they didnt say that they JUST bought the bikes.

As a defensive car driver who is heading for the A drivers license, I definitely see the problem with egos and terrible reaction from bikers, horns do exist, if someone starts slowly pulling into your lane, looking at them won't do anything, honk. Just from watching these videos I already got the experience of cars not seeing me (first 10 minutes riding an Mt07 I got cut off 3 times while literally being a meter away from the car) and I've only seen a couple in the past year. I read drivers like a book because, after all it is my safety I am worried about so I just slow down in advance and prepare for brake.
@StableDruid130

While I understand your point. There have been multiple clips Dan has covered that show bikers honking as a response to a car driver pulling out in front of them or merging onto their position in a lane and they still get into accidents regardless. A car is most likely not going to hear or pay attention to a motorbike horn. So the best thing you can do is try and escape and if you want to also honk. That way you can get to safety as well as make an attempt to make the driver aware.
@kratos9524

I think that he was not paying attention to the car and pedestrians in front of him. The car stopped for the pedestrian in the crosswalk as he is required by law. The motorcyclist either did not see pedestrian waiting to cross or assumed that the car would blow through the crosswalk.
10:30 - it really doesn't matter whose fault it is or isn't, the fact remains that getting rear-ended on a motorcycle can very easily be deadly and we should be allowed to safely avoid that situation. It's not going to stop happening.
@POVwithRC

Fault is always important to assign. Doing so does not negate any lessons that one could learn. Also your comment had nothing to do with the clip.
The guy at 8:18 who took a turn "Too fast"... The turn likely was not too fast, he didn't even seem to try to take the curb, he saw the curve, and panicked. Had he locked his eyes on the curve and hauled his bike over and just leaned in, he prob would have made it. This is a case where training would have helped
@SethJayson

Yep, 8:40 from behind you can see he didn't initiate much of a turn. Starting on the outside of the turn was a perfect setup for panic time.
@1:50 Isn't it true, if you keep it that far to the side, other vehicles (a*holes) will try to squeeze to your left and potentially bump you? Just trying to learn, cause that's what I heard. I'm a new rider (still on my learners) 😢 Tnx
That poor CBR600RR getting stood up upside down...
In the green van incident he braked because someone was in front of him stopped
16:19 - so, to me it seems like the car and the bike starts turning right at the same time. A split second doesn´t really matter here, it´s about making clear signals about what we want to do in traffic. Weaving left and right like this, with no signals is a dangerous game, and this dude enrolled himself as first looser in a competition between 500 lbs of bike, and 4000 lbs of car. Guess who will win every time? Edit: I feel like I left out a big part of the equation here, and it´s like this: When you watch that clip, do you ever spare a thought to how fast all of this is happening? It´s about 3 seconds from the biker first appears in the mirrors of that car, until the crash. Now, when you´re turning right in a car, what do you do? I´m guessing look in the rear mirror, right wing mirror and headcheck, at least that´s the best way of doing it. Now, the biker didn´t signal anything for as long as you watched that clip, did he(or her, she, it, they, them, therr, whatever....)

They're streamed here on YT for free every Thursday and you can can find them in the live section of his YT channel.
Blend with traffic and you become invisible. At the very least, get a strobe light (front and rear) and always plan to make your way to the front of the queue where you are a lot more visible. I have been bumped from behind just waiting for a red light BEHIND another vehicle! Here is the thing.. riding or waiting behind vehicles other than bikes is a sure way to disappear. This rider should have had a better plan.
The first rider is why motorcyclist have bad rep. Hit someone from behind and then goes off. Maintain a space cushion that your skill set needs.

Well.. I think it´s more about hiding in blindspots and speeding, like when bikes appear out of nowhere in a "cagers" eyes. In this case, I think most sane drivers would think "OMG, are you allright?" and probably be a bit more lenient, as you had a bad accident, and they barely felt a bump.

Dan I have a question on why you don’t teach this technique? When I ride, anytime I see an intersection or side of the vehicle or any indication of someone looking to pull out I’m always tapping my lights. I’ve seen countless times cars looking to pull out hesitate when see that shiny light flicking at them even in the day time. Just curious on the downsides to this. I know in cars when people flick high beams it could be an indicator to go ahead or even cops up ahead. Thanks for what you do for riders and for your service man!

What I do in a pinch, is just pull the clutch . My brakes are good enough to skid both wheels anyhow, and when I´m in full control I can slowly let it back out to engage the engine brake. I do NOT want to lock up the rear unintentionally. If you do stall though, just pull the clutch then instead, the brakes will still work fine.
