As with all things in life, scuba diving has a list of dos and don’ts; things you should and shouldn’t do. The first things that you’re taught are; don’t hold your breath, don’t go down to deep and don’t come up too fast. They’re all a given, so I’m not going to talk about those. They are no no’s , but everybody knows those.

Log your dives! I chinned it of after qualifying and dives for about 2-3 years without logging. I’m now an instructor but my log book shows a significantly low amount of dives for my experience especially compared to my peers. Keep logging whether you do 10 dives a year or 100. It’s also great to look back at logs. I always put a learning point on the bottom to remind myself at a later date.

Always carry a knife. I once had to cut free a very experienced dive instructor (friend of mine) that got his feet tangled up in his own reel line on a "low" visibility dive. Turned out he had stopped carrying a cutting tool years ago since he never needed it. Never assume one's experience: even an experienced diver can make mistakes, even stupid ones: bad habits built over time, over-confidence...

There is so much to learn about diving. Physics, physiology, etiquette, ecology, biology, emergency procedures, gear, specialty certs, etc. The NAUI MSD course is an excellent reminder to be humble and careful. This is an incredible sport we “play” but it is dangerous and unnatural. Dive dive dive. The more you do the better you’ll get! Safe diving

The flip side of the Dunning Kruger Effect is that experienced individuals assume that if a task is easy for them, it should be for everyone else. Cognitive biases work both ways.

Nice video as always. Something Greek about MPORA. M and P in Greek make B. And BORA in Greek means "a very heavy rain" :-)

I'd like to see a video of you talking about some of the worst divers you've seen and some of the pranks you mentioned. Thanks!

Do you have a future in instructing/ DM if you have strong conservative leanings?

Do not interrupt a diver while they are performing their Pre-Dive Check.

i've played multiple sports and when you signup they tell you the sport you are playing has inherent risks if you understand this please sign and play. scuba diving has a form the states if you are on medications or different conditions answer yes or no. i've seen a number of people say yes and in most cases are not allowed to dive. i'm sure the dive shop is forced from a legal standpoint to stop the person from diving. given this info people are more opt to lie on the form. this is unfortunate but a reality especially as you get older.

That form doesn't stop you from diving if you have any of the conditions it lists - it just requires you to get a doctor's note. I have mental health issues and am on meds, but I was able to get the okay from my doctor with no problem.
