Why do you use an enriched oxygen mix for your diving?

I normally dive with a 100lb tank. How will nixtrox help or work for me?

I use Nitrox on every dive where it is available - reduces tiredness and seasickness for me with better bottom times and shorter surface intervals - win, win, win, win!

I use nitrox for the increased NDL limits and the other benefits. At 64, I have no trouble testifying to the increase in energy and overall less fatigue while using "geezer gas." I will use it whenever it is available.

I like diving nitrox for the increase in bottom time and reduced surface interval. I get more time in the water.

Great info for Divers curious about Nitrox and non divers alike.

I use Nitrox on most holiday dives to maximize NDL on repeat dives. Here in the Netherlands I mostly dive air since a Nitrox fill is harder to get, dives are often shallower and limited to one per day. I did Advanced Nitrox & Decompression Procedures two years ago and have a much better understanding of custom mixes and how to optimally use Nitrox now.

Great video, and the 3 tank dive example was PERFECT. I always dive nitrox unless I risk MOD on a dive. My iPhone Nitrox app is great. I wish it did multi-dive planning. Anyway thanks. Truly great information.

EAN! Reducing the surface intervals, when I had days with four + dives a day as a scuba instructor.

No matter what you breathe, your underwater time depends on your breathing skill. Cylinder on your back can only hold the same volume... 12 or 15L...whatever is. I've done the same time on regular air at the same depth along with divers on nitrox. The only difference is decompression time between dives. Most of the time nitrox is misunderstood. Your video is excellent, don't get me wrong. Short brakes between dives and better physical condition is the top pros.

I’m a medic, diver and a gym bunny, not a scientist but I have been thinking about why divers would claim to feel better using Nitrox as opposed to standard air… I found this extract from an article. “During your dive your muscles use oxygen to make the energy they need. If diving on standard air your muscles make this energy more anaerobically because of the higher PPN (nitrogen) oxygen can't get into the muscle tissue as effectively to keep up with the amount of energy the muscles need. When your muscles are making energy anaerobically, lactic acid is created as a byproduct. Although lactic acid does leave the muscles before muscle fatigue begins this repeated cycle can make you feel tired and physically weak. Conversely, with Nitrox diving the higher level of inspired oxygen feeds the muscles being exercised when finning and creates less general fatigue” This may scientifically explain the common claims from many divers that they feel less fatigued diving on Nitrox Perhaps if we want to feel happier diving we could also use Nitrous oxide instead of nitrogen 😆

There is scientific proof of feeling better (less tired) on nitrox, you learn about the physiology of this when you do a tech diving course! 🤿👍🏽

I have just booked onto a Nitrox Course. I recently had a dive on nitrox in Dubai, so decided to take the cause. I'm lead to believe that one of the benefits would be for an older diver, as I am 58 years old and would be more susceptible to decompression sickness. Is this true?

We don’t yet fully understand possible individual risk factors for Decompression Illness but, 'older age' is often seen as a risk factor. Nitrox will help to reduce that risk and is a highly recommended course that every scuba diver should take.
