Lord Muck They are pretty bomb proof so I’m told if they are maintained correctly especially correct oil in the transmission and calibrating the clutch packs regularly. I’m a John Deere man at heart and it was the 8630 that opened my eyes to other tractors were lovely to operate. I’d buy one too if I could find one!!

It's like anything Andrew, if you wipe auxiliary probes on implements and trailers, change the oils on a regular basis, they normally last far longer than the abused ones.

Another good video as I told you before I finished with tractors in1990 but this takes me back to going to bore ham in early1990 and seeing these for the first time. Another thing in 1972 we sold the last 5000 select o speed to a farmer by Welshpool who went on later to build Welshpool airport unfortunately he got killed in aviation accident a few years ago a very nice man

Brilliant again, especially the old ones for me, living on the Maltese islands I miss the ploughing matches & country shows. I remember the first Majors often had a P6 Perkins fitted & I could often just listen on arrival at an event to find out if one was running, even a couple of fields away. I can remember my first sight of a Massey 65, it was new & towing an Autoblast tree sprayer which was huge & had ex aircraft wheel & tyres. I was lucky enough to drive a 1961 65 back in 1999 for a day. Keep up the good work & be lucky.

Thanks for the video, the 8830's a sharp tractor and didn't disappoint from the preview. That was cool getting up close to the doe's as well. All the years I lived in the U.K and visited shows I never saw one in person, I guess in those days they were still real rare and sitting in barns and out the back . An old friend of mine worked for Roy Rees tractors in wales they pulled quite a few 5000 Does apart and converted them back to 2wd for export in the 80's, They scrapped the turn tables when they were done !!!!!!!!!! . When I got my first 954 county I was talking to a parts guy here in Canada, the mechanic listening piped up and said thats not one of those Fordsons thats 2 joined together is it. I kinda subtly quizzed him, and he described what he had seen in a local town. It was one of the few that came to Canada, I believe a collector in the states has it now from comments on a forum of one down there that came from Manitoba . Great video! Love seeing old ford farm equipment I’m American and my grandfather had a open station 7600 and also a 7700 that he sold for a 8240 with fwa and a loader. He still has the 7600 and the 8240 but doesn’t farm very much any more like he did when I was growing up.

Nice video chap, the powershift box on the 30 series was a massive jump forward for ford from that old crash box of the TW, turned a good tractor range into a great one in my opinion.

One big problem with the TW's was that a lot of folks couldn't get their heads round the constant mesh box on the road. I never had any issues and could go up and down the box all day without crunching it.

Cracking vid as always. I worked a deere 7710 with flail in and around brigg back in 03, on contract to the environment agency. Cant beat a ford though.

ahh super major......greetings from germany thx for the clarification with the gears from TW series to 88´s. i missed this all as i went in late 80´s from being a Ford mechanic. We always missed the 40km/h drive and i think they get it with the fusiion with new holland. perhaps i should look for such a nice old 8830 ;-) hahaha nice toy.

Thanks for the explanation on the Powershift box, never driven one so would have never known about that.

The FW range were the next thing up after the TW's.

We had a Roadless 95t as are big tractor then we had a same saturno 80 and then a massey 175 with a loader on it

What a wonderful transmission they made in 80's by Funk.

Great video, as usual I must add. As much of a Fordson fan as I am, I must say the 8830 stole the show. Seems strange to me being from Michigan and very few big Fords around us. Nice to see such a fine example of Ford's muscle. Mostly Green or Red tractors around these parts. Thanks for giving us a good show. Definitely looking forward to the close up show of the Doe. Yes I've always noticed that Ford never had a massive stronghold in the States. However, there are a good few these days (New Hollands) in upstate New York.

From what I understand, much in the same way he did with the Model T, Henry flooded Michigan with the model F. Although a cantankerous beast to start when hot, it was quite well received in these parts. The 9N, 2N and 8N were sold in MASS quantities around here. Nearly every small farm with twenty or so head of dairy stock had one or two on it. Much larger than that and you needed to step up to a Farmall or a Deere. The little Fords simply couldn't hang with the likes of the Farmall M or Deere's A or G. I occasionally will see a big Ford or New Holland as I travel about the countryside here in Southern Michigan, but they are few and far between. I figure they must have either had a really reliable dealer in the area or are just die-hard Ford fans. Even though Deere has eliminated most of the small dealerships, they still out number Case-International dealers by roughly three to one. We had representation from many other colors of the rainbow as well, but those three were by far our region's most popular breeds. Thanks again for the GREAT content! Be Blessed!

Oh, OK Theres's another tractor foreign to US that's a lot like Deere. Saw one years ago at a dealer lot. Hell of a lot like Deere, but another name. I thought it was Chamberlain,but I guess not. Thanks, I'll think on this.....

John Deere bought an interest in Chamberlain back in the 70's but they designed and built their own tractors using various power plants including Detroits ! Have a google, I'm sure you'll like them !

Nice range of Fords there,. In 1990-91 on visiting family back in Bucks, I drove a Ford 7610 tractor, quite an experience, the relatives called it the "Pressure Cooker" because you got so hot driving it in the fields,.....Funny lot my family...lol

The TW's were the worst Tigerspook, worse than the 7610's. The Turbo under the bonnet would cook you from the front while the hot oil in the back end would cook you from the rear !

Wasn't in it long enough to experience the heat thing, I'm sure it didn't air-con lol, the TW's sound delightful..

It's great to see those Does in their working clothes. It would be criminal to tart them up IMO but fair play for the other restorations.

It's sometimes not a choice you have if something needs a lot of work. Other tractors just need an oil change and a bit of grease !

Love those old fords while not having the SG2 cab or Fendts road speed pure power.

Yes they are a nice old bus and the cabs were good in the day too. Not having the Fendt's road speed means they are also legal...!

It's really a funny development because that transmission was just so user friendly and the cab was behind the times at least compared with case magnum. When they finally caught up with the geniuses series they really did it right. Have you done any videos on the john deere transmission that would be comparable in power?

The cab may be "Behind the times" but there are still an unadulterated joy to work in to this day.

Good video Kurt....you know it's an 'age' thing, your liking for these 'modern' tractors. That's why I like the old ones....before my time. Late 50s when I first started 'work' i.e. playing on the farm. Took every chance I could as a kid of course to have a drive. Think the Power Major had 2000 hours on it......just to let you know the period. And yes I should have taken a walk up to your end of the field. Also, I've heard the new Does are in fact newly made ones, not restored originals.

I ran a doe 130 as a kid it gave you strong arms but there wasn't any place that would grow a crop that you couldn't go with a 7 bottom semi-mount Mount Plow. Our family still owns the doe 130 to this day.

JbJ Express was a famous puller in its day.

Served me time on a qcab 6600'7600. And a 7610 . They were big tractors at the time . And trouble free except for the foot throttle would brake.😕😀😁😂

Nice one LM, ..was that the same Muir Hill as in the previous vid? I can only agree with you on the Ford Powershift transmission, .......I only had a brief spin on one but was almost thinking I'd died and gone to heaven. Take care and keep you a troshin.

Do you know Mark I had to watch the big Massey vid to check if it was but no, this was an earlier 121 but saying that, there were two others there in the static line on the day and was was a later type so it might have been there ! Do Well.

Good video Muck, 30 series were great in their day & still are, the Funk transmissions were a great introduction to the series unless they needed a rebuild, then you were looking at remortgaging your house, selling your mother in law & renting out the Mrs & Kids, It's a toss up whether the 30 series transmission outweighed the TW big levers that went clunk & you knew it was in gear, personally I prefer the big levers that went clunk, just on the price of rebuilding the Funk, TW's were a great tool, talking of tools have you heard from Alain today?

Rebuild on the Funk used to be around 7-10 grand depending on what needed doing but at least you then had a functioning tractor again for several years so not that bad in the grand scheme of things. I was sent a picture today of a crappy old car upside down in the hedge and it made me think that Alain may have been for a drive out somewhere...

Lord Muck did a couple on 30's, the more memorable one was on a 8970 (it's a long time ago) it was borderline being as cheap to get an exchange box from NH, problem was NH didn't have any & it was 3 or 4 month delivery time.... It ended up being rebuilt, can't remember the price but it wasn't exactly cheap.

Martin, I think it completely possible to make the inching pedal as a hand held control (maybe like the brake lever on a bike etc) then the gears are all Powershift so yes I would think it possible with a bit of work.

Martin when starting off its best to use the inching pedal or when hooking on to things. 40 series had a dump button on later models which could act in a similar way. Brakes could also be set up to work off a hand grip with a bit of work. It's all possible, you just need to look at what suits you best. Personally I would say you need to go a check a few out.

Did you know that Ford had the first power shift trans . The guy got sick and didn't want it put out to be sold so John Deere came up with the same idea and moved toward with it. Will say that's the first Ford I seen like that. Would love to have it for a day 11th

If I remember right it was guy that designed the select-o-speed (jerk-o-matic) that left ford and went to work for funk which was eventually bought out by JD

Normally we only fit discs on grassland or heavy land. All reversible ploughs have depth wheels, just not stuck right out the back.

A show I would like to be at I am working on ford 4600 78 model no mechanic in my area no much about them

Yes it was, not many were sold here in the UK but a few went abroad. Several Powershifts had TW straight boxes put in them after the Powershift went wrong.

If it says Dual Power on the bonnet then it's factory. If it says Powershift then it's been converted.
