Man 0:54 gives me a huge bit of nostalgia as a 90s kid miss seeing so many neighbors chopping away at it in the fall. Now we all just use 1 or two guys who can usually do it in a day. Good and bad with all change but I do miss the pull type chopping.

We had an 8530 and an 8630 , 8630 was power shift and we had a lot of problems with it , it would downshift on its own and about throw you through the windshield . It was new technology at the time and 3 different dealers tried to fix it but it was never right from new . The 8530 was a really nice reliable tractor , it was always my pick of the 2 .

you obviously weren't operating it correctly, its supposed to downshift and upshift itself

The US Company, Funk, made the transmissions fitted to that tractor range. Funk were eventually bought out by John Deere (Deere & Co.).

Yip love my 8730 powershift. I'm in the middle of gearbox clutch packs at the moment but we'll worth it.

We have a 8630 and 8730, good tractors, easy on fuel, but they don't lug worth a crap.

That's the problem with the short stroke engine design - low torque and hence no lugging ability, despite what the guy in the video says. Long stroke engines produce much better torque values.

that was my time and tractors ;-) the swap from analog to digital instrument clusters was not a good thing imho and many owners complained about absolutely NO chance to read anything when sunshine is around and some dirt most times ruins all. The old big needles dial around were much better to read ! The throttle pedal was much to close to the brake pedal ! Tranny was new, nice but new.....some had problems with clutches inside. Engines , rear axles with wet inner brakes and hydraulic were always the best part of Ford ;-) cabin was also good at those. My favourite was and is still the 7810

Yes sleeveless, but very rebuildable. We just sent one in for machining with 11,000hrs. Sleeved it and now we will complete the overhaul.

Ford tractors are not made any more because New Holland bought them. Yes they had a problem with porous blocks. One of the six we have had that problem.

  • @williebourke9962

Maybe they were made in england with pistons bores made of stainless steel or some other alloy .That was then encased in the cast iron block .At the back of that in some ford tractors not all corrosion appeared .or was the alloy that was put into the cast iron itself porus .Anyway water gatherd at the back of the piston shell and caused problems .Ford should have stayed on their own and ramped up the research and development .Those that did survived .Mergers are caused by greedy shareholders baying for money on their investments .Power shift wasnt to different to multi power the old ferguson tractors had .Ford are gone . David brown .gone .but ferguson are still going .mergers were never about the tractor s being made better .but in many cases to shut down the tractor manufacturer taken over and cannbalise bits to add on .grab and run with the research that the other manufacturer had done .Case did it with david browns and its hard to understand now .Tractors with engines made by different manufacturers .than the name on the tractor or car .Effin crazy

@@williebourke9962argueably, Massey Ferguson no longer exist really. Taking the newest MF 9S series as an example, apart from the cab and bonnet, underneath is an engine and transaxle by Valtra - their new large tractor range are mechanically identical, apart from the fact that Valtra are made in Finland and MF in Beauvais, France. Case IH have just released a new high capacity combine, the AF 11. Apart from its external dress panels, it is mechanically identical to the New Holland CR 11 combine previewed at Agritechnica, in Germany, late last year.
