This is really amazing! I loved every second of this video. I'll be watching again and sharing with all of my printing friends. The thing that has always frustrated me is the more "crafting" side of using a gel plate. This truly feels like fine art level. Kudos to your innovation. You make this purchase very tempting!

I absolutely love the crow monoprint!! I have a magpie I have linocut that I should dig out to play with. It's funny because I don't think I have the patience for masking tape collograph but I will happily carve a lino block! Great video as usual! Tfs

hi pippi, don't be put off, if you have patience for lino you'll easy get through masking tape technique : )
You can make tour own gelli plates any size you want and much cheaper than buying them. They work great and last a long time. I love your work and your videos.
If “chuffed” means really happy, then I’m chuffed to have watched this video! I have been at my plates all day, wondering if I am ready for the big plate and after viewing this video, I am convinced it’s time to order! I enjoy working larger. You also answered a long lingering question of using canvas board. Awesome video! You made my day.

@@yeatesmakes can I see it? I love Otis. Your Augustus print is fab. As a textile artist, I would love to see stitching and possibly more mixed media. A technique I’ve used is to glue ripped newspaper down onto canvas board, paint over with tinted gel medium and sand the edges so they blend into board.

Hey Yeates! This is top shelf stuff-showing how gel plates etc. can be used for more than scrapbook/card making/etc stuff! Well done.
Oh, I just LOVE this. The crow/raven is so expressive. I have crows, and wish they would befriend me. But they are country crows and don't need our offerings of food, so they stay away. I love all your videos. And its a joy to see how you create.

Your prints are getting more and more professional! Maybe it has something to do with the size but both your prints are fantastic. So nice to hear that you fell in love with this large plate. And then that skinny brayer...I've been searching but I can't find it. Does your partner have a little tip? Or...keep it to yourself, sell them and go rich, because I think the gelplate/mixed media world will go crazy over them 🤪... I'll be the first to buy one! I could watch you do this all day. Your process is fascinating and I love both pieces.
Wonderfully edited for momentum and interest. I can imagine the real time work took many hours. I love the screenprint look achieved with some of these methods without the excess bother. Congrats on making most of humongous gelli plate. Working on that takes real artistic commitment as a bad result would be hugely disappointing. Reversing the guy's image on photocopier before transfer could be interesting, too.

Your ideas are phenomenal! Thank you for sharing!
Love your art
You just get better and better--both at finding new ways to exploit the potential of gel plates and at delivering quality productions that convey huge amounts of information and inspiration with great economy. On pretty much any other channel,--especially art channels--I'd evaluate the likelihood that a 30-minute video would be worth sitting through. Here, I just dove in, knowing I'd emerge yet-more-inspired and better informed. You delivered in spades! These pieces are awesome creations, and really expand upon the techniques you've explored in other videos, over the last year-plus. Registering your individual, shaped plates directly on the print is a great idea (so long as there's no risk the tape will pull up your ink!). ...Now that I write that, I'm thinking perhaps a longer "tail," even if of scrap paper or mat (mount) board, would let you fix the position, without risking the surface character of your print. I also greatly appreciate the evaluative comments on the utility of a plate that size. Waiting for this video was like being a kid waiting for Christmas. I've been eyeing a 16 x 20 gel plate for some months, now, but wondered whether I'd actually make use of it. Your results have convinced me it's right up my alley. Kudos also to your partner for nabbing the skinny brayer for you. You put it to exceptionally good (if delayed) use. It occurs to me that the small area of contact might also deliver an intensified pressure, much like the rounded bowl of the wooden spoon you use to rub down your prints. But those marks it makes are, indeed, exceptionally nice. I particularly love the crow print. (Check your email.) Partly that's because I particularly love crows. They're such designerly birds; rather like penguins but without the overbearing flash and too-cute bowling pin bodies. But even more than the fact I love crows, I love your print because of the range of expressive marks and techniques you incorporated into the image. Sorry if I repeat superlatives too often, here; I flail to come up with new ones on this channel. But that print is absolutely stunning! Definitely among the best work I've seen you post!

Hi Xeno, as ever, thank you so much for the comment. I was worried about publishing a longer video - felt a bit self-indulgent! I am delighted people feel there is enough in there to justify 30 mins. Go for it with the larger plate, I've only used it three times and am totally convinced it's worth it in terms of freedom to push techniques. Thanks so much for the support and loyalty to the channel x
