And a tv show is not essential. Not to mention the government was handing out fine's to businesses that stayed open when they are not essential.

To everyone surprised by the emotional reaction of the houseguests: You have had the privilege of experiencing the gradual changes of the world caused by COVID-19 (and measures to combat it) on a daily basis. You are not secluded from the outside world, even in quarantine. These people have entered a show focused on isolation and were expecting to see it through til the end. All they know about the pandemic is the short messages by Erin. They don’t know what the world looks like, all they know is that everything has shut down. To us, the situation is scary enough as is. For people who don’t have daily access to media, news broadcasts and who are literally escaping reality, this sounds like the actual end of the world. Imagine them having to come back to a world they don’t know. They’ll be confused as to why no one is shaking hands, why the media is focused on social distancing. You know this and are somewhat used to it because you’ve experienced every step of the process. They will be thrown headfirst into a world that has shut down. This is like Rick Grimes waking up in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. We know it’s not THAT bad, but they don’t. This. Is. Fucking. Horrifying.

Part of the reason people are taking COVID19 so seriously is because we get to see how the world is changing every day. They're comparatively isolated, even with production giving them status updates, so COVID19 probably hasn't fully sunk in for them.

As I see it, an apocalypse is a worldwide phenomenon where humanity is decimated down to a fraction of its former population, with society's progress being thrust back by centuries or even millennia, and a great deal of knowledge and technologies being lost as the survivors slowly try to rebuild. This situation we have now may seem apocalyptic to some and in some areas, and it is certainly very bad, but it doesn't have the potential to decimate humanity, even if we let it run rampant and millions die. Even if the entire world is infected, the vast majority of people won't die, though the losses would certainly be catastrophic. The apocalypse would come if we start ww3 in the middle of this over medical supplies. Then, yes, it has the potential to become an apocalypse. But for now, I wouldn't go that far. It's bad enough, giving it a scarier name won't help at all.

For us it happened slowly, we were warned, some of us even asked for these measures to be put in places, it was a matter of when not if.. for these guys not having a clue of what the outside world is like then taking it all in at once.. wow. I still feel shocked when i go out for a walk and it’s just dead empty on what’s usually a lively road/street full of cars, people and shops (that were open)

Not sure how it works in Canada, but in addition to a chance at the prize money, the cast is an actual cast and are given a payment for every week they survive. It’s one of the reasons people are able to leave their jobs for months to participate.

I'd imagine that this is one of those psychological situations where it can be a bit of both, but one more than the other. Although it seems on the surface that they're upset by the virus, which to an extent they will be, there are some clues there from what they're saying that they're distraught that any potential future opportunities that may come from BB are now gone. For example it was telling when the sikh man said that his dream had been crushed. Some if not most of them will be more upset about the end of the show and potential opportunities than the virus alone.

As an American - and an avid watcher of BB since Season 1 in the States, I find this to be the most powerful and heartbreaking moment in any BB Season that 've evr seen. Seeing the shock and tears of thes contestants - its almost a metaphor for what our entire world has been going through for the past 2 years. May we overcome this "once in 100 year" cataclysm, with strength, and determination, and the simple will to live and survive.

I wanna see BBCAN X be an "Unfinished Business" type of season with ALL of these houseguests coming back. It would be nothing short of incredible.

You can hear the crackle in Erin voice, she tried so hard to keep it in. The emotions and the fear, knowing you were probably safer there, not knowing what was waiting for you or looking at the people you spent time with not knowing if you’ll ever see them again.

They have one last competition to decide the winner of the season, the competition is gathering as much toilet paper rolls as you can and whoever has the most wins the prize money, and gets to keep the toilet paper since they will need it.

This is such a strange perspective to see things from. For the rest of the world this is our reality, the outside world, everything being closed, and people being sick/dying. In there you can't grasp at that, even though you know about it. You're sheltered from everything... that blow must've been such a harsh reality check, letting them know that things are actually as bad as they said, and they're not allowed to continue for health and safety reasons... mostly of the crew behind the screen, seeing as those people in the house itself were probably in a very secure location. Must've been so surreal, leaving and returning home like that...

They thought it wasn’t that serious. I kept following the information of the virus since end of January and still when UK started the lockdown it took me 2 weeks to process it. My friend’s families in hospitals, people running to their home countries, people losing their jobs. It was too much. I was born in Madrid so my heart is broken.

I can’t believe Big Brother Canada hasn’t done that yet. I watch Big Brother Philippines and they have crazy twists and edition for each season. Always new all the time. Hopefully Big Brother Canada explores new concept like that.

The best April Fools joke in this situation would be to tell the housemates that all their COVID-19 updates have been one big hoax all along. Then just before midday tell them all that their news of it all being a hoax was the actual joke and the virus outbreak was real along. April fools!

I hope they take precautionary measures. Imagine leaving an isolated house only to contact the virus home.

Even if it seems like an overreaction to us, I do feel for them. They've been cut off from everyone and everything, only learned of what was going on in the last week, and now they're being unexpectedly returned to a completely changed world. They all must realize how bad things are if this is happening, and they're probably as scared as they are disappointed.

They wanted to be on the game, went through the audition process, were sequestered then throw into a game that is a roller coaster of emotions under the best circumstances, then have it yanked away is something else. I mean yeah if they knew the full extent we do they might be less upset, but even with BB telling them it would be hard to truly process it. Once they get out and truly get what is going on it will seem small to most I am sure that they lost out, at least for now. But can't fault them for reacting that way, when you are in BB that long all you know is BB.

The issue would be the crew, everyone behind production which would have to be ignoring isolation to film a show. Their roles aren't classified as essential so how would they continue to film? And even take care of the cast.

Everything wasn't that bad. Still isn't. What should have happened is everyone should have let the virus run rampunt during the beginning, it would have burned itself out and would have been over. Nope, they tried to do this nonsense of lock downs, masks, vaccines that don't god damn work worth shit. Instead of doing the only logical choice from minute 1. We are suffering now because of it.

Don't know why I keep coming back to watch this... Getting the news is chilling.

The person announcing the news chose great and comforting words in my opinion. But I can’t imagine how scared the cast members must be

I'm guessing up until this point they thought it wad just a prank, then reality hits... its real and even the show is shutting down.

I feel that the least they can do is give the same cast the chance to compete for BBCAN9. They shouldn't be taken out and not to get the chance to compete back again

We do know that they were probably at their safest while in there, right?

Holly Holy they were safe but the crew it takes one memeber of the crew to get sick and all the crew would be sick cause there in small areas and if the crew get sick they can touch the food and bring it into the house then everyone would get sick

Every time I watch this it gives me goosebumps.

Me: lmao why are they crying? Also me: fully sobbed in class 3 weeks ago when we found out we were being sent home for 3 weeks (which became 5 months) for Covid-19

it’s their dream, to some it sounds crazy but these people have watched this show for over 20 years, and have applied hundreds of times for the chance to live out their dream. never in 30+ seasons of bbus/bbcan has a season ever been cut short. it’s unprecedented, heartbreaking, and dream shattering.

It sucks that they cancelled it early. I would've loved to see who won the $100.000, but instead, they gave it away for a good cause, and I'm happy about that part. #StayHome #WithMe

This season was a disaster 1 quit, 1 eviction, 2 ejection and covid ended it early.

I don't watch BB Canada but I have re-watched this video several times. I can't imagine what it was like for them. To know very little and then hear everything is being shut down must've been terrifying. At first I thought 'why not let them stay where they are safe?' but then I realized they might want to be with their families and especially it wouldn't be safe for the BB staff. I hope this group will get to play again in the future. Also, it was good to see them hugging. It was comforting.

To add to that, filming studios aren't essential businesses. I don't think they could convince the government otherwise.

Imagine being in the dark from the outside world for so long and suddenly being exposed to such dreadful and deadly news. Wow. I cannot imagine.

I think they are in shock because the ending of the show shows how serious things are outside but I don't know any of these people haha. Just basing reactions off how i would react.

People don't develop immunity. This one will keep sweeping all over the world in waves until a vaccine is developed. That will take at least one year unless the virus as tough as HIV. In that case it will take decades, if ever. And people claim vegetarianism is bad for your health lol.
