I'm not a BB fan but having unsuspecting people receive news like this is by far the most interesting thing about it. I still remember the early days when they broke the news of 9/11. That footage holds up. In 20 years, when people look back to this time, the BB canada clip is going to hold up too. It's history. We're talking about the worst pandemic in many generations, but I guess that wasn't dramatic enough. No- let's not see them quietly reflect in horror at how fast moving this terrible world changing virus is. Let's pump it up with DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN!!!!! Wow now people will know it's serious! They mean like stop filming and no comps and such.
They weren’t overreacting, this is how we all felt in the beginning. A lot of people thought it was going to be way worse. EDIT: So I've been getting some comments saying that COVID is way worse than anyone thought, the answer, simply put, is NO. There was a previous SARS virus in 2003, that killed 10% of the infected, but it was contained. I've left more info in a comment down below about an NCBI study. As I've said in a post below, is COVID-19 Hell? Yes. Are there different layers to hell? Yes. Things could have been much worse.
@circe...

Huh? No, I think in the beginning people thought is was going to be NOTHING, just something passing through. It turned out to be WAY WORSE. No one imagined 700,000 Americans dying (millions worldwide) and still counting. This is worse.

@@circe... we could have different experiences 🤔 where I was at, everyone thought this was the apocalypse, ordering gas masks, preparing for off-the-grid living, just completely losing their minds. You didn’t experience the hysteria? There was even scientists who feared it would kill 10%+ of the population. If you research SARS viruses in general, some in the past were much more deadly. It’s absolutely horrific that so many people have died and suffered, and I’m not trying to diminish that at all. But it’s important to acknowledge it hasn’t been to level that some experts were predicting. Let’s just hope things start to get better from here.
@Wtfwhatisthis

@@DrBased123 Actually, it’s not a fraud. It almost killed my mom’s best friend, and I know people who’ve died from it. I can only speak from personal experience, but I, at 24, had just finished running a half marathon in the summer. I am healthy, my diet is clean, and I got COVID on August 14th, could barely breath, and had a 102/103 fever for almost 10 days. I couldn’t eat, I could barely drink, and I’m still recovering. It’s real and horrific, but it’s not at the level of an apocalypse, as some people predicted in the beginning.

Unfortunately, here in the "good old USA" we like to be number one in everything, including COVID-19 cases. I think we're approaching four million. This video got me curious if there will be Big Brother in the U.S. this year, although I don't watch it (bored of the show). It’s interesting looking back and watching people’s reactions when learning about the pandemic. It seems so silly now but back then we knew barely anything, it was terrifying. I had one friend that was freaking out because they thought it was going to come to New Zealand and we were all reassuring him that wouldn’t happen. Then Italy went into lockdown and part of me genuinely felt like it might be the start of the end, that everyone in Italy was a goner. Thank god I was wrong.

The manipulative, science-illiterate news media did a great job of misrepresenting public health data to lead people to believe a SARS-CoV2 infection was far deadlier than it actually was. I recall major news networks suggesting the infection fatality rate was as high as THIRTY-PERCENT (it is actually less than 0.2% for the general population). They also refused to inform people that the virus had a similar risk profile to the flu for the vast majority of people under the age of 70. It was an astonishingly stupid and ignorant time to be alive. I will never forget it.
