The most pertinent question that S. Ajmer Singh raised toward the end of this talk is about Punjab Policemen who were behind the killings of Kharkoos. If some of them have some sense of repentance & hear the voice of their conscience at least divulge what and how they did. Some consolation for the affected relatives/well-wishers will be to know how those Kharkoos met their end bravely. It reminds me of a famous African proverb "Until the lions have their own historians, the history of the hunt will always glorify the hunter".

It is an analysis which can be expected from only a scholar who has done intensive study of socio-political movements. So far as reason of boycott of 1992 elections is concerned, it is still a baffling question. Sikh voters were as enthusiastic about elections as they were 1989 MP elections. Top elected leaders took a u turn and hidden reason of boycott was buried under sentiments spread about kirpan. Candidates were ahead one after the other to secure tickets from leaders who were all working to select candidates. Conscience was pricked overnight against likely killings of boys of a leader who doesn’t have his conscience and issues statements as if of a silly brain. Anyway any good CM wouldn’t have come out in that turmoil and in last 75 years 5 years stand added more to see a CM whose conscience is in Punjab. I do not think we would have been any better if that struggle would have seen success. We may hope that a hindu leader with sikhi spirit will rise in Punjab. In the alternative a sikh leader of sikhi spirit may arise who may fulfil the dream which maharaja ranjit singh may have been nurturing of uniting erstwhile north india. Dipak fauji from haryana is giving such calls. Sikhs led country in freedom struggle and struggle against emergency successfully but reaped bitter fruits. Third time they led in kisan andolan successfully and got ill will of state but brotherhood of bhartis. May fourth struggle see success and win win hearings for all hearts.
