This game is the only RTS I have ever watched that allows for such cooperative flexibility. It's damn amazing.

Nice to see a good variety of units being used at high-level, including the con turret transportation that's no easy to pull off under pressure. It feels like the skill cap in 4v4 could go a lot higher as players learn to coordinate.

the match between careless tryhards and TZN on thundra was a very nice match. back and forth, lots of attacks and action and some very cheese moves at the end to try and bring victory from the jaws of defeat. should be a nice one to cast.

Dude, the econ and unit sharing is so cool! Like you said its the best parts of Archon mode, but in a game built for multiplayer. I would be surprised if the game doesn't become even more specialized in competitive play. This is just one econ player backing three more or less "regular" players who coordinate a lot. But they could end up having people who just focus on vehicle micro, or defensive play vs raiding the enemy backlines and things like that. Because while everyone here was good, it is clear that BARCodes had the edge basically the whole time.

Stormgate is going to really prioritize team play so if that takes off, it'll be interesting to see!

So, the Grand Finals is the best players in the game doing a bombing run, seeing the enemy has their own air units, selling their own air factory in response, making no AA, and dying to a bombing run... *sigh*

they caught up on energy without a big obvious play happening because they were building windmills as desperation and the wind went from a below average 5.7 doldrum to sitting at or near the map-cap of 22 in the span of a couple minutes

I just discovered this game and had no idea winter did any other games besides StarCraft and that one game with the big ships FPS, forget what its called. Either way, nothing will ever top Total Annihilation :)

honestly the best way I can think of to balance Air in a strategy game is fairly close to exactly how it works in real life: back here in the real world there are a LOT of weapons that can shoot well past the horizon, generally speaking the way to actually do something with that range is to have an air presence or at least ground forces in the general vicinity. it would make a game go a lot harder on building information networks but that's not really a bad thing if you can do it without it turning into an AMP=win situation. similar story for most other forces: even when you're just talking about guys with guns having more sources of information of different kinds and ideally different patterns of acquisition provides some pretty massive advantages.

Reminds me of the old game total annihilation.

I enjoy watching both your casts and your plays of this game. Starcraft 2 to me isn't that exciting of a game, SC1 is better imo, but this game is really good, definitely better than SC2. The RTS community needs new blood, although this is a remake of an old game, there are a lot of modern improvements that make it so much more unique and the devs deserve to be recognized for their generous contributions without any expectation of payment.

I do hope this game picks up some steam. I've been dying to sink my teeth into a new RTS after I let go of Blizzard and Starcraft, but nothing has been worth the time commitment

usually people will make spider type units or creatures have 6 legs so as not to trigger people with serious arachnophobia issues

Terrain deformation is available in this game so yes, you could make a wider river by blowing and ressurecting as you said.

Hell yes. Restricted participation makes sense in some situations, in particular, in the sense of insider advantage and false advertising. If I run a lottery, and I tell everyone there's a million dollars to be won, but in reality, I already know the winning numbers and I enter myself, I am fundamentally defrauding my ticket buyers. But what's going on here? It's not like this guy is dropping balance patches the morning of these tournaments. It's not like he is playing by different rules. It's not like prize money is being fraudulently distributed. what's the harm here? The obvious benefit is that everyone gets to play with more skilled opponents and gets to watch higher skilled games. If you want to get better, what better way to learn the meta than to play against the balance team?

That isn't really true for BAR because u have usually balanced teams. In tournaments like this there is no autobalance and therefore there can be a huge discrepancy between teams. Anyway, the top teams where not so much spreader when u look at the rating of the single players but it seems one team developed a unorthodox strategy and team play that is beyond any of the other teams, which lead into a domination every single game.

Captain Jack Sparrow is the worst BAR captain I've ever heard of!

1st game was over in the first 5 minutes, that's the problem with BAR at this level play... no chance to recovery after even a tiny rush.

One team hits the opponent at 3 minutes with air, doing nothing. The other team hits with air at 6 minutes, destroying so much stuff because the opposing team had no AA (despite having full knowledge that their opponent had some air). YT commenters: No answer to small rush. In truth, if you did the equivalent in AOE2 (arguably the most boom/fast tech friendly rts) and lost a ton of Vills to fuedal age harrass, a high level game would be over, too.

I for one had my wires crossed, thought we’d have fighter support even though I knew our air factory had been reclaimed. Very costly blunder on my part.

A great game, but the admins are hyper-active. Just one example from today, as per their mod bot: "(player) has been moderated. Reason: Griefing by destroying your own base even if the game is clearly lost, just resign instead., Restriction: Login" (2 day ban)

I am sorry but I have yet to see better RTS than WG: Red Dragon... Wargame franchise has RTS mechanics like no other and does not bother you with building management. Yet, you will get a master's degree from logistics and tactics by playing this game. BAR (or Starcraft) is not even close.
