Very detailed review thank you. To add though, to review a TV that is released year on year, without having the previous model on hand to compare against really does the new TV a potential big disservice. Based on some other reviews I've seen the C3 does seem to be a pretty decent step up on the processing side and this can make a big difference in ways that charts can't capture.

@TFTCentral Thank you for posting this video. The gaming section definitely has my attention as it is always the thing I look forward to the most. I was wondering if the lag of down-scaled 1080p at 120Hz has around the same 1ms compared to 4K at the same refresh rate? I am sure that owners of consoles that still play games off of consoles like the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and retro arcade and consoles plugged into gaming scalers like the upcoming RetroTink 4K which can do 1080p@120Hz as well as 4K@60Hz. Thank you for the very imformative video.

@@tftcentral 100%. I tried the QD-OLED options and the WOLED monitors. The QD-OLED was distinctively worse to my eyes. The LG panel affected me the least and it might be due to how dim the panel is. I have an LG C1 48", but I sit around 12 feet away so it's not an issue. I don't mind too much though as miniLED options are a good alternative. 👍

Great review! The detail you went into was much appreciated. I held off buying the 42" C2 last year, thinking the C3 might be a big leap forward. Turns out I had too much faith in LG 😅C2 stock has dried up quick and current UK prices aren't enticing for a 2022 product. Assuming a cheap C2 is out of reach, I think at this point its worth waiting until black friday for the proper C3 discounts.

Great review, thank you! Is it possible to calibrate colours and white balance at different signal levels in the Game Optimizer mode the way it's possible in other picture modes like the Expert ones? Does it allow to set color space to "auto"? Or you're basically stuck with panel's native performance if you want optimized latency? I'm concerned about the wonky EOTF. If only it was possible to correct it via 10-point RGB balance adjustment in the game optimized mode at least!

@@tftcentral Thank you so much for replying and doing that so quick as well! That's a pity, because the reason I'm asking this is, apart from my suspicions, that the user manual for C2 model states the following: "Adjust brightness level at the selected signal level(%): The brightness of the selected signal level can be adjusted. You can do these settings only when the Picture Select Mode is the Cinema, Expert (Bright space, daytime) or the Expert (Dark space, night) and when the Method is set to 10 Points Signal Level(%) or 22 Points Signal Level(%)". I guess there might be a chance that was changed with the C3 model, but I wouldn't bet on it. The 2 Point adjustment has to be available in the Game Optimizer mode, but it's insufficient to correct the EOTF since it seems to be very nonlinear with these panels and gamma tracking irregularities can't be corrected with only 2 points of control. Maybe it's still possible to adjust individual color channels at various signal levels with 10 and 22 Point precision, just not the overall brightness (all three channels simultaneously). But that seems really counterintuitive to me. Wouldn't make much sense, really... Do you happen to know if one can access those options via the Service Menu, by any chance? I've asked Vincent from HDTV channel since that's basically his exact area of expertise, but it seems to be below him to spend his time bothering with such nuisances. But I can't (and am not willing as well) to spend this kind of money on a display that's not only quite inaccurate OOTB, but is also impossible to correct (apart from software calibration/profiling, but sadly that's unavailable to me since I don't have a PC). I'm twice an outlier, I guess...

  • @tftcentral

I’m not sure about the service menu, I’ve only ever used that to disable ASBL really on these screens. So just confirm what you are wanting to access? You want to use game optimiser mode but then have access to which specific settings?

  • @juanblanco7898

    @juanblanco7898

    7 ай бұрын

@@tftcentral I need to be able to correct the EOTF tracking in Game Optimiser mode. To my understanding this can be done by either adjusting brightness at multiple signal levels (more straightforward way) or by adjusting individual RGB channels/color temperature at multiple signal levels (a bit less straightforward way), though somewhat crudely (should be perfectly fine for non-professional use). The specific settings are: Picture > Advanced Settings > Color > White Balance > Method > 2 Point / 10 Point / 22 Point. 2 Point adjustment is available which is apparent in your video, but it's not really adequate for the task, unlike 10 Point adjustment which, I'm afraid, may be unavailable in Game Optimizer mode. Thank you for your time and patience! You're a blessing, man, honestly.

@juanblanco7898 I see. I’ve tried to have a look on my CX but nothing other than 2 pt settings appear to be available in any of the modes I tried. That might be because 10 / 22 pt options aren’t available on that older model, or maybe they’re locked as I have some of the modes hardware calibrated. This might be one to ask about on AVSforums where there’s active chat about these screens. Someone will know or be able to check for you on a C3

Strange. Every owner of the C3 42 inch whom I've asked have responded by saying that they don't notice the ASBL (TPC) kicking in during regular desktop/office use with static windows like browsers, MS Excel, etc. I wonder why you have the opposite experience? LG pushed a firmware update back in March 2023 that essentially "toned down" the aggressive ASBL that was bothering everyone C2 and prior, while at the same removing the TPC option from the hidden service menu so that consumers wouldn't void their warranty. My understanding is that ASBL (TPC) is no longer an issue for any kind of usage C3 and onwards.

  • @tftcentral

The FW update addressed problems where it was kicking in too aggressively for dynamic content like prolonged dark scenes for instance, and that was rolled out to the C2 as well. For desktop use it’s definitely there but it’s not super obvious all the time. Better than on the C2. It might vary on content and uses but we def experienced it for prolonged static use on the C3

You could also get a service remote and just turn it off in the service menu if it was really a problem as well 😀 Yes, both the C2 and C3 are supported by Calman from the latest update for AutoCal calibration

@@tftcentral Yeah TPC was very annoying on the C1 so I turned it off via the hidden service menu and it's been perfect for daily PC monitor use ever since. This is however not possible on the C3 as I believe they removed that option entirely from the service menu (unless things have changed in recent months), which is why I'm concerned about TPC on the C3. Glad to hear Calman supports C3 now. Many thanks for confirming.

"... turning on, you have the smart app screen and have to select the PC input." Not exactly correct. You can disable the Home auto-launch option in Settings, and you should be able to turn the TV ON directly to your PC input by simply programming a Quick Access button to that HDMI input. Hold down the "0" button to program. For myself, I would utilize the Always Ready option if using as a PC monitor, so that it can display a floating clock for 30 minutes then turn itself off. If you come back to the TV while Always Ready is still active, just click the EXIT button.

I see the C2 for $829 by a not perfectly reputable 3rd party seller on walmart, $990 at amazon, if I wait too long they could be unavailable and I'll have no choice but to get a C3 at $1000 or so. I'd probably have gotten the $829 one if it weren't from some untrustworthy 3rd party walmart seller called beach camera, walmart screwed me big time before with these sellers.

I got my PG27UQ in 2019 and used it all the way to till 2022 when I finally replaced it with the C2. The C2's overall HDR experience is better because of the lack of blooming which I would notice on the PG27UQ during dark scenery or even bright scenery that has dark elements near highlights but when it came to explosions the PG27UQ's significantly higher peak brightness really gave off that wow effect. My most fond memory of the PG27UQ's HDR performance is in Final Fantasy 7 Intergrade where there was an explosion on a motorcycle chase and it really felt like I was going to get seared by the flames because of how bright the explosion was.

After all I said thinking c2 is pretty good tv/monitor for multimedia and gaming.

Unfortunately the 42' was out of stock so I had to settle for the 48' but it was still massively cheaper than the 42' C3. Nice TV, overall very happy with my purchase although my panel has particularly strong purpleish hue.
