Gotta love Chapman. My first quality bit kit and 3 years later it’s still my favorite. I went on a lightening spree in my work backpack so I changed to a Megapro auto screwdriver to handle everything I need, but the Chapman is the one I use at home. If it’s remotely important that I don’t damage a screw or cam out or strip something, I use my Chapman set. It’s never failed me and I expect it to last a good long while. There are times I miss having magnetized bits, but I’m too lazy to magnetize them myself so here we are.

Chapman Manufacturing is on the corner of my street. Lyman Products is in the neighboring town. I had a Chapman bit kit that came in a maroon case. Unfortunately it went missing with a lot of other tools. I was a member of the Junior Rifle Club at Blue Trail Range that is owned by the Lyman family. Sadly David Lyman passed away about 3 years ago.

Loving this video. As a hobby I repair typewriters and old mechanical objects (got their typewriter set), and as a profession I am a custodian who does some minor repair work. Super excited to get their security bit set so I can work on several projects that I have been meaning to get to but haven't had the tools for. Got to love small company USA made tools! Will be ordering more in the future just based on the quality I see in my typewriter set!

I see what you're saying about the pockets on the tool roll up, and I'll see what we can do about that when I re-order more roll ups. Thanks again - Joel

Another thing I think is cool is there's a bunch of options. You can get all sorts of curated kits or you can buy empty cases and build it a la carte. Plus they have lots of options with the colors! Got a teal kit myself, came with a blue and yellow ratchet, this was before the handle got switched so it's that classic flat black with yellow print. But color options is something you don't see from a lot of companies in tool land, which lets people customize even further. I've corresponded with Joel before also, he sent me some toolbox stickers. Really good dude.

It's great, they just came out about 2 years ago now. It's aluminum which makes it nice and lightweight which is a bonus. Another secret function it has is as a spinning top, put a #2 bit in that thing and it will spin like nobodies business. And no surprise it spins in small socket cap screws like a dream.

I do like the chapman sets a good bit, but my all time favorite bit kit is the Wadsworth Falls Super Deluxe bit kit. The ratchet in this kit is over the top strong, the bits have extremely good fitment, and they last nearly forever. Nope, like the Chapman kit, the Wadsworth Falls kit is not cheap but is worth every cent. I really like how compact the kit box is, especially for it to have so many bits in it, a bit ratchet, a screwdriver for the bit, and 2 finger spinners for the bits. Wadsworth Falls!

I put my own set together with exactly what I wanted, but they do have many ready to go sets you can buy that are a great option. My recommendation is to buy the empty master case and fill it gradually building a set to your specific needs, I needed the flat blades more than anything else. Then a couple sizes of Robertson and maybe 4 hex sizes, that's 4 rows of bits and the rest is all drive handles /acessories. I have their standard driver handle, 3 stubby handles, 2 standard extensions, 1 stubby extension, 2 of their little plastic finger spinners, the CM-13 ratchet, the PR-13 ratchet, and a stubby wood driver I made with one of their short extensions. The only thing I don't really like is the CM-13 bit ratchet, but the round PR-13 bit ratchet is great. I'm pretty sure it's the same mechanism, but the action seems a tad lighter and I just find it much more useful. I think I mostly just don't really need the right angle orientation very often. I'm actually planning to get one of those new black & yellow 100 plus style acetate handles and a couple more of their stubby extensions because I'm often using so many different bits when I'm using my chapman set that It gets annoying swapping bits out all the time. I won't touch any gun screws, vintage airgun screws ( I have airguns going back to the 30's ) and vintage fishing reels with anything but my Chapman bits or my GRACE gunsmithing screwdrivers. One of the best things about Chapman is the built in finger turn on the bits, the detents, and the flanges. I often find myself just using the bits by themselves, because fingertip torque may be all I need. If you don't like their CM-13 bit ratchet, you can just put your bits in any 1/4 ratcheting box wrench of your choosing which is useful. I know a guy who carries some Chapman bits and a cut off ignition wrench in one of those little rubber keychain coin purse things Chapman is one of my all time favorite companies in any category let alone tools, and I do not know how I lived without my Chapman set. I never expected the set to become one of my absolute favorite tools but they are, they're not a tool that really gets me excited with cool factor or anything though and I'm not sure why. Other tools are cool and exciting to me, but the Chapman stuff is just absolute practical perfection. I suppose other tools I think about more than I use, but the Chapman set has become as essential to me as my belt boots hat and wallet so there's just less excitement.

Good Evening Fellow Toolhaulics and Friends: CP my brother you hit a home run with this video sir !!! Many people have no concept of what bit to slot / positive Phillips head engagement is. For those folks we might as well be talking to the rain. But I must say sir that a professional mechanic or gunsmith understands that a positive engagement between the bit & the fastener is essential for the removal or torqueing of a fastener. Nothing twists my nuts more than a bit that rocks within the fastener or exhibits sloppy fitment. Take that beautiful pistol. If you utilize an undersized bit or a worn bit & attempt to remove the set screw for those grips it will rock in the slot, damage the screw head, & most probably walk out thereby scratching those beautiful grips. The folks that don't appreciate what we are speaking about will continue to use those garbage Freight screwdrivers / bits & keep damaging things, but we all have our standards. CP well done, God Bless, & my best to Henry. TMP from N.J. 🙏 + HAPPY EASTER TO ALL !!!!!!!!

The Chapman straight blade bits are made properly, to not cam-out and destroy fasteners, just like the ends of my Proto Insulated Electrician flat-head screwdrivers have, they fit perfectly in fasteners? Nothing is worse, than a regular tapered flat-head screwdriver stabbing you, cause it wasn't designed to not slip in the first place? Great job, CP.

I happily broke one of my Chapman bits about 2 years ago. That $1.50 bit was much cheaper and easier to replace than the unobtainable screw on the 1960's CZ air rifle I was working on. I'm not a machinist so I couldn't just make one, and parts for that gun especially the barrel pivot screw are rare as hens teeth.

USA or nothing, is what I like to use? I was lucky to get a Craftsman USA bit set, before they started to make garbage. Saw the signs of them going away with quality, and jumped on everything USA made, and I was right, they did what most manufacturers do, go with cheaper tools overseas? I own a special drawer in my organizer wall unit, that reads "China Junk." I must own boxes of "sub-par" tools, that I think, don't deserve a nice place to call home in my tool box? From what I've seen they've got the ratchet, a handle, an extension, and the little red spinner caps. No stubby handles, no other types of ratchets, no other finger spinner styles, and Chapman just starts looking better and better as you compare the offerings. Chapman just seems to offer more and have better prices.
