Better Than My Craftsman Set the Tips are Magnetic No Joke

ICON screwdriver set from Harbor Freight features an oversized ergonomic grip that is slightly different than a SnapOn screwdriver and I personally think it's just a little too oversized. While the Precision-machined magnetic tips provide a decent fit, these ICON screwdrivers are definitely not my favorite. Thankfully they are still rather inexpensive.
They include a bolster on the shaft so you can use a wrench when you need even more torque, but I have never really used that feature, every on any screwdriver. The polished S2 steel shank extends through the handle of the tool, giving you unmatched durability and transfers torque from your hand to the fastener flawlessly. Screwdrivers need to withstand abuse and the grip on the ICON screwdrivers will hold up to the harshest chemicals you can throw at it, and the polished shank easily wipes clean when you’re done with the job.
This set includes a plastic storage tray to help keep you organized, and tip IDs on the handle end so you’re always grabbing the right tool for the job. Harbor Freight ICON hand tools are backed with a hassle-free, lifetime warranty that I have yet to try, but is clearly listed on the companies website.
The oversized ergonomic design delivers secure grip, increased torque and maximum comfort
S2 steel shaft for extreme durability
Precision machined magnetic tips for a perfect fit and added control
Bolstered reinforced shank for demanding applications
Drive type printed on handle crown for easy identification
Chemical resistant handles for extended tool life
Includes premium storage tray

I think it’s hilarious that you stopped to show us how each screwdriver works! 😂😝. But seriously, good video. Love the reviews of icon stuff. After seeing the snap on stuff fit in the same tray, I was thinking that buying the complete icon set of screwdrivers just to get the blow molded tray to use as an organizer for your snap on screwdriver‘s is still probably cheaper than buying whatever organizer snap on sells for their screwdrivers!

Can't beat this set for the money. Replaced the stubby and added some longer flat head and I'm good to go. Mostly use m12 impact driver or cordless ratchet for screws anyway. These work well and earned their place in my cart. Snappy is too expensive. Money saved is more money to buy more tools that get the job done. I see a lot of people around me throwing money away every week. A lot of money can be saved by researching tools before you buy and becoming an informed buyer. Thanks for making videos, Chris!

Great review and thank you for the content. I can see a place for a set of ICON screwdrivers in a professionals "go bag" to use on the road because the price will not kill you, versus having an 8 piece screwdriver set from a tool truck brand. When I was in the trades in the 80's Craftsman was the starting set for all tools and if I was starting out I would invest in the ICON screwdrivers versus going with the HF's other lines. Don't get me wrong at some point I would step up my screwdriver line with a tool truck brand once I was making money and reinvest back into my tools. In my opinion ICON will not replace tool truck tools but offers another option for the professional on a budget.

I personally didn’t like the ICON screwdrivers. I bought a set a couple months back and returned them a couple days later. I did not like the way black rubber on the handles would roll the skin on my hand. I found them to be very uncomfortable. My favorite screwdrivers are my Gearwrench and Olsa Tools. Very comfortable in the hand and get the job done.

You’re right. It’s a personal feel. But also, guys commit to a thought of what’s worth it. Snap-On has job site guys fixated on them. But I’ve found that while pretty good, they’re generally no better than other top line brands, at often, much higher cost. All truck sales cost much more because you’re paying for that guy with the truck, who also owes Snap-On a lot of money.

Preferring American made tools but not needing professional quality the classic WF made ( some made by Pratt Reed) Craftsman Acetate handle screwdrivers were my go to because I do like acetate handles, but I was never really satisfied with the handle sizes and earlier this year I made the switch to some NOS Stanley 100 plus ( made before that shitty weird Phillip's tip was introduced) and some Pratt Reed screwdrivers. I went with the classic Acetate essentials series which have a proper handle size and comfortable profile, but P-R does have their more professional series with a modern mechanics style handle that would be a good alternative to these imported Icons if COO matters to you.

Some people have OCD about brands and colors. Other people just want to buy a complete set from precision screwdrivers, torx and have longer p1 or p2 or 3/16 all in the same brand. While it will save some people money they still may need those longer sizes and have to consider buying them elsewhere. The Doyle has a nice longer 3/16 but not a longer p1 or p2.

I'll stick with snap on. Personally I would rather put that 50 towards snap on ones or matco, I bought a really new looking red 8 piece set on ebay for barely over 100, I mean what's 50 more. Definitely worth it. I do own quite a few hf tools and they are good, but there are just certain things I'd rather buy nice. Such as a good ratchet, screwdrivers, pry bars, picks, ball peen hammer. I would rather buy them from the truck. Have hf air impacts, Milwaukee electric impact and ratchet blahs blah, hf sockets, pliers. But at least one soild ratchet like matco locking flex head and the other stuff I mentioned is worth it. Buy it once and it's yours for life.

Not every socket has to be snap on, that’s how you go broke. Owning a few snap on tools are 100% worth the money. If you think they are that expensive you may not be getting paid enough. I work trucker hours and if I want it I buy simple as that. If you like harbor freight than that’s cool, they have okay tools too that do the same job. But snap on is definitely more quality. All of my power tools are new (safety) and I look at new hand tools for comfort reasons. I have small hands so a lot of modern screwdrivers do not fit, get 75 year screw drivers and the handles fit much better.
