Better Than A Corolla Hybrid? (Hyundai i30 Sedan Hybrid / Elantra Hybrid 2024 Review)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Detailed review and test of the 2024 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid / i30 Sedan Hybrid including economy, price and more.
Depending on where you live, this car might have different name. Here in Australia it’s called the Hyundai i30 Hybrid, but overseas it’s called the Elantra Hybrid or Avante Hybrid.
Either way, this fuel efficient sedan is an arch rival to the Toyota Corolla hybrid sedan. Is the Hyundai better? Maybe not, but it’s in much stronger supply so you can actually get one soon. And at $33,000 it’s not badly priced either.
Rivals also include the Kia Cerato, Mazda 3 sedan, Skoda Octavia and others.
Chasing Cars is Australia’s most independent car review platform.

Peugeot basically has no after-sales service because Peugeot doesn't bring their own cars to our shores. Good luck when something goes wrong, they have no factory-trained techs only mechanics from other brands working on your new car, not a good outcome.

A very good review as always. Is there any chance to have a comparison with Civic Hybrid? I know Civic Hybrid is at the other end of the spectrum in term of specs, features and pricing. Just interested to know in term of the drivability, overall packages (interior space and all).

I love Hyundais with our i30 Tourer diesel still soldiering on with no issues approaching 200k km … but it has to be said that infotainment fascia/housing is ghastly cheap - not only have they ripped the cheap feeling and looking 80’s Nintendo buttons off Toyota, the entire fascia looks like the back of a television! Having driven for days a Corolla hybrid twice now, that car is also very underpowered when out on the open road - it’s only in the Camry hybrid with its bigger engine, that the battery acts like a little turbo when overtaking, but not the Corolla. I wouldn’t imagine this i30 is any different. Good review.

A key to getting decent bursts of acceleration out of Kia and Hyundai hybrids is to use the sport mode which then gives instant full electric motor assist to the petrol engine.

I really enjoyed the car's comfort and handling. The hybrid system is pretty perky going off from standstill too. I agree though, at speeds above 80 km/h the sound insulation isn't all that great. Definitely a car that works best in the city or suburbs.

Compared with CVT (belt type) or Dual Clutch which have a short life before major co$t$, or a "normal" automatic which is much better than CVT & Dual Clutches - there have been almost no issues with very, very high mileage Toyota Synergy Drive transmissions - taxis exceeding a million kilometres. At 5:04 of the video is reported that car has 16.7 cubic feet or 474 liters of trunk or boot space. This is the typical FAKE GOURMET sedan, the one that comes ready to be swallowed by an SUV. In the ranking of decent sedans (TOP 500 SEDANS) with a trunk capacity above 500 liters or 17.6 cubic feet it does not enter.

Not compared with a typical SUV - volume is a deceptive lie in some SUV cases. Having more height in the load space, compared with a typical sedan's larger floor area is rarely useful.

@@avaliacarros7739 yes, driving 4th hatch in succession - though they often cut the boot size down dramatically - Corolla hatch & Maz3 are pathetic. Best option was the plethora of small, hugely practical wagons through the '70s, '80s, even some in '90s. Not a fan of coupes, though - on the odd occasion I have to pick up 4 grandchildren from school, or take older folk places, back seat access can be a pain. Though would have been great 25 years ago when I regularly had to transport a double bass - the wide passenger door.
