I understand Kims desire to run from the consequences of their actions, but this was cold hearted. Telling a mourning wife, regardless of how many problems she had with her husband, that she in a way should have known and could've prevented it, is heartless.

Kim's lie was built on one throwaway line from Howard when he told her and JImmy/Saul/Gene that he and his wife were estranged before Lalo put a bullet in his grape. Kim used that knowledge to her advantage since by that time Cheryl (?) wasn't paying attention and the guilt was now placed on her. Well, played, Connie Corleone.

We spent nearly 6 full season waiting for Jimmy to become Saul. It didn't happen when Marco died, it didn't happen when he started his commercial production company (Saul Goodman Productions) and didn't happen when he started using the "Saul" moniker after getting his law license back. Tonight, it finally happened. James Morgan McGill is no more. He died in that final scene in the apartment, marking the fourth death this season along with Nacho, Lalo and Howard. Although he didn't die with a bullet, his death was nonetheless more devastating and he bled out more than the other three.

I don't see a huge difference between Jimmy and Saul. Sure there is the persona but the values and conduct are consistent. It's not like Walt as a teacher vs Heisenberg as a drug kingpin. Jimmy was always a scammer - hence "slipping Jimmy" - now he just added a persona brand. Sure he gave up on love but he was never a romantic anyway. Even as Gene he idolizes his Saul days so his outfits change but his values remain the same. I'd agree with your point if it was about 'slipping Kimmy' as that chapter in her life surely died this episode.

@@Johnnysmithy24 : Agreed. Prior to his full transformation into Saul Goodman, Jimmy could easily step back and forth into his Saul character, going as far back to his Slippin' Jimmy days in Cicero. As we will see in BB, Saul is a soulless caricature, willing to have witnesses (Badger) "shanked" in the shower or loose ends (Jesse), sent to Belize. The only hint of Jimmy's humanity that we see in Breaking Bad is his final scene, when he tries to convince Walt to turn himself in for the sake of his wife and kids, before high tailing it to Omaha as Gene.

The once comic relief supporting character is a product of a tragic evolution. I have definitely gained a whole new perspective on the man who was James McGill and turned into Saul Goodman. 2 down, 4 left.
Someone mentioned in an earlier recap that Jimmy and Kim's hotel room number in the first episode this season was 609, foreshadowing Kim's death in Season 6, Episode 9. Turns out it wasn't her death, but rather Jimmy who died in 6 09, before transforming into the despicable Saul Goodman.

I thought it might be, but I wasn't sure completely
Two points: 1. Mike and Nacho's dad both lost sons. Mike chose revenge, which led him to his predicament. Nacho's dad refused revenge, saying it is not justice and calling Mike out for being a criminal. His son is dead and he is not interested in revenge. That they were in the same situaton is another nail to Mike who must have empathized with another father who lost his son. This parallel of two fathers losing their sons I have not seen pointed out but I think is an important angle to consider. 2. There were a couple of teasers/trailers relating to Kim that have not played out in the episodes so far. This episode had one trailer that has played out here, with the sound but not the black and white picture, where Saul says everything will go back to normal, they will brush their teeth etc. But previously we had sound trailer with Kim giving some sort of court oath; also, the "happy ending after all" in sombre tone by Saul, and also one phone call. How does that fit into the future episodes? Does, say, Kim go to Nebraska and there becomes an attorney giving oath? It was speculated based on this trailer that she would go to trial even jail, but maybe she goes to her hometown, and there Kim and Saul meet in the Gene timeline - perhaps Gene saw Kim when he abruptly ended the call to Ed the disapearer last time. Just an idea, but in any case these trailers should play out and so it seems we will see more of Kim...

I've been saying that Kim will represent Gene/Jimmy once he returns to ABQ. It's sort of obvious to me, and I haven't seen anyone else speculating this. I can even see Carol Burnett being Judge P. It makes so much sense in my head. That's where her oath comes into play once she reapplied for the bar. Good job for making the connections because a lot of people are glossing over this possibility. It's going to be one of the best endings to a show, EVER.
@pepefrogic3034

Yes, good point. With 4 episodes to go, we might even get more than one episode with Gene timeline, if this is true. There have been speculations that Gene gives himself up, but it would make much sense for Kim then to defend him, I haven't thought of that possibility, but it would explain the sombrr tone "a good ending after all". Gene goes to jail but maybe on some reduced sentence with Kim's help. Say, Gene sees Kim in Nebraska (that is why he cut short the call to Ed, because he saw Kim I suspect), gives himself up and Kim defends him. Will the colour return in the end, giving some hope for redemption? Kim visiting Jimmy in prison, rather than them walking into the sunset - he serves a bit of time, but gets back with Kim, some sort of bittersweet but satisfying ending.

I mentioned this a couple of times on previous recaps: Saul leaving Albuquerque on Breaking Bad was always a big question mark. It was always assumed that Jimmy/Saul left due to his complicity to Heisenberg's crime. However, after further review,; what exactly was he (in the Fed's eyes) in Walt's empire? Other than being his attorney, nothing else could tie him to any of Walt's crimes. Even assuming that Jesse implicated Saul in the filmed confession to Hank, that tape was taken by Jack Welker's gang, long before it ever made it to the authorities. Saul was in the clear, and had no reason to run. I think this episode opens up the possibility that Jimmy/Saul left Albuquerque because Howard's buried body will be found at some point after Walt and Jesse blew up the Superlab. Since the story that Jimmy and Kim are instructed to tell (by Mike), they are the last people to see Howard alive after he comes over to their residence. Mike's stern instructions onscreen is NOT a coincidence or a throwaway line. Once Howard's body is identified (presumably some time after the lab fire), it immediately makes Mr. and Mrs. Goodman suspects based on the testimony they gave the police and what they tell Mrs. Hamlin. Furthermore, Lalo's discovered/identified body would also raise more questions for the authorities, since Saul was his attorney, and he was presumed dead in Mexico. 5
At first I was thinking this guy sounds a lot like Rummy's Corner. Haha. Keep up the great work on both channels Rummy. I never miss a boxing video and now I can jump into your tv reviews.
Exactly. Mike is not a good person. He only seems good because the other criminals are so much worse than him (Eladio, Hector, Gus, Walt, etc). This fools us into thinking he’s a good guy. He’s not.
"Ya know, quasimodo predicted all this" lmao, I love how BCS and Sopranos have the same feel throughout their shows. Good review, pumped for final 4 episodes.
They made a point to show the Nebraska plates in the Kimmy flashbacks and point out it’s her home state. The scene with Papa and Mike had me in tears, Papa was my favourite.
There’s an ironic symmetry to Mike and Nacho’s father. Mike became a cop but submitted to the corruption and ultimately it got his son killed. Nacho’s father resisted criminality at every turn, yet he also lost his son to criminality. In the end they both exist as heartbroken souls. It’s seems a convoluted message. But why would Mike tell Nacho’s father anyway? He could just think his son was off somewhere - now he has to live with the pain of his fate. It seems that scene lacks a foundation other than calling out Mike. Maybe it was Mike’s last scene?

On the surface, it appears that he is using this as a method of consolation for Mr. Varga, referencing his efforts to destroy the Salamancas and the cartel. However, my theory is that he is alluding to Gus as well. Could Mike conceivably start plotting against and sabotaging Fring's operation from this point forward to the BB timeline? Was Mike's anger at Walt (for killing Fring) in BB a bit misdirected because Walt cheated Mike out of his chance for revenge/justice? It's not out of the realm of possibility to think that Mike will start working against Gus, as an inside man. He's always operated under his own code. The relationship, was never great, but seems to have soured since Werner's death, and more so over the course of this season. Even in BB, Mike does what Gus instructs, but seemingly so, only because it involves their common desire to end the Salamancas and Eladio's empire. At times he's shown a reluctance to act on Fring's orders (such as the ordered hit on Walt in the Season 3 Finale), or dismayed by Fring's actions (like witnessing Victor's brutal murder in Season 4).

so much happened that the scene with eladio and Gus kinda got overshadowed, but HOLY SHIT that was fucking good
Great episode and great review! We shall certainly see more Kim yet, she can't exit from the show like that. I would predict that the next three episodes will take place in the BB timeline and the last episode will take place after the BB in the Gene Takavic timeline.
When Jimmy and Kim were sitting at the end of the bed in the hotel, did anyone else catch/see the painting behind them was the one from BB that Walt sees in the waiting room and in the motel when meeting Jack?

Seriously, right before the Fring bar scene, I was telling my friend that we never see him doing anything non-work related. I was like "We need to see him just watching TV or playing video games, maybe hitting up a bar and playing some foosball!"
This review has some well done editing. As the timeline has moved forward, I wonder if some situations will left as they are? Such as, will Cliff and Howard's wife put two and two together and realize the set-up against him? Howard might have kept records of his dealing with that double crossing detective.
When this is over I’m gonna miss the clips at the end of these videos 😂
The best thing about this episode is that for a big part of it Kim doesn't say anything and I thought she was going to start despising Jimmy for him trying to move forward and for the lies he was going to tell at the funeral. Turns out she was ready to tell an even bigger lie.
The BB and Gene timelines might overlap completely. We don't know how long Gene has been in Omaha, right? Maybe less time than Walt was in New Hampshire

@@Lalvon_Zelpharr I meant to say that there might not be as much difference between the Breaking Bad timeline and the Gene timeline as many people seem to assume. I don't really expect Walt will stop and visit Saul, even though Saul did tell Walt about Cinnabon in Omaha
Given how well this show plays of details, I was a bit disappointed that Cliff Mane never challenged Kim on why she no-called/no-show for that fellowship or whatever it was that he set up for her.
Wish that Kim and Gene could get back together, changed people, and resume a normal life. That would make me happy.

No way they do that. The writers aren't going to give us a happy ending. Only Jesse got a semblance of that.
I found that Kim & Gus made similar decisions. Both Kim & Gus stood with their lies & they both chose to leave a potential relationship. In Kim's case, she was in a relationship but saw it for what it was.....toxic. Gus saw himself becoming enamored with the waiter but decided not to bring dude into his life because of what his life entailed & he'd never really be able to share that bottle of wine with him. I saw parallels between the two.
Let’s all look at the broader picture here. Kim definitely chose Bad Choice Road. As Mikes speech to Jimmy in the car said “You try to get off of it but you always wind up back on it.” Is Kim the only one in this universe that is able to get off Bad Choice Road ? Or is her payment still to come? Or is Howard’s death the payment? I don’t think so. We’ve seen so many characters choose bad choice road and the consequences for themselves was usually fatal. Jesse survived but only after undergoing years of torture; Ted beneke lived but with a busted neck; skyler lived but as a poverty stricken single mom; everyone else died…Gus, Eladio, Hector, Nacho, Walter, Mike, Tyrus, Victor, Tuco, Lalo, Todd, Lydia. Alright the squat cobbler is still alive but he had to make the pie videos in a baby outfit.
Love the deep cuts at the end
The flash forward to Saul seems to be the very day he crosses paths with Walt. While on the phone he referenced someone getting arrested for public masturbation, which is what he mentioned when he met with Badger.
Don Hector hitting that bell had me laughing. It was ironic. He hit the bell & gets carted to Don Eladio's room. The next time Gus hears that bell he's about to be carted out in a bodybag.

if you think of the BCS timeline existing because Chuck got Jimmy out of jail, then the Gene timeline is the punishment he would have received without that intervention. Kim punished herself as the justice system would, up to the point of admitting guilt; she probably didn't want Jimmy to go down with her. i think Gene will follow Kim's rectification. what that will look like, i have learned not to guess.
Far Out Theories: -Kim is dead in Gene timeline (not murdered, just dead by other cause). -The black and white teasers we see/hear is Jimmy talking to his (and Kim's) son/daughter. -The son/daughter is being raised by Kim's mom (Carol Burnett?)

The conversation with Howard's wife just shows how much better BCS is than most relevision. Other shows would have had Kim and Jimmy be interrogated by the police to threaten jail, but Howard's wife is so much more powerful as an accuser because she can cut right to the moral bone. And so Kim's lie to her is so much more reprehenible than lieing to the police could possibly be.
I firmly believe we will see Kim appear in the Gene timeline. It is foreshadowed in the connection to the song from episode 601. In any case, I do hope we get an episode to see what Kim has been up to in the BB timeline.
I wish we could get one more season (in Gene Timeline). Truly one of... if not THE greatest shows ever written, acted, shot.
Without someone special in his life Jimmy was always just one step away from 'Slippin' Jimmy and ultimately the Saul we see in Breaking Bad. It was sad to see the realisation dawning on him that he was losing Kim and the ground underneath him was crumbling. As has been constantly shown time and time again in these two great series money is not necessarily the route to happiness.
If Kim shows up in the Gene timeline, she will be 40-45 years old. Is it out of the realm of possibility that the Carol Burnett cameo will feature her as Kim's elderly mom?
