To me, it's insensitive to the extreme to name your children (or pet) directly after Covid-19. Their name will be triggering to so many who have lost loved ones in the pandemic, or just those who have lived thru this trying time. I would immediately draw negative conclusions about the parents if they told me their child was named Covid or Corona; and as the child grows up, they will forever get a complicated reaction whenever they introduce themselves, so I think it's very unfair to the child as well.

Yes I agree! People mourn in different ways, and while some people might think this is a great way to remember our dark times, some people will think this is an unacceptable way to make fun of the victims. My mom knows a guy who was born in Austria and named Adolf. He was born right after the second world war... now, I know Adolf is a common name in some countries, but that was just unnecessary! Names should never provoke!

Our baby was born in April right at the first peak and it was terrifying and sad because no one was able to meet her for months. Her name is Indigo Belle Ember. We had planned Indigo for years but I do connect it to rainbows and think of that as her wee symbol. Pre-pandemic we had already considered Ember as a forename from one of your videos. In the end we added it as another middle name as she was definitely our little Ember of hope during quite a dark time!

I love the name Locket. Freesia is an interesting one. Maybe a list of unusual flower names. Around the time of the 1st world war, people were naming their babies after the battles and then victories. Passchendaele was one and then Armistice. Another list idea is one based on remembrance.

I would happily pick a name that had meanings of positivity and hope to symbolise that we hope to get through this, or which symbolise that my baby is one good thing in a really bad year. Beyond that I personally wouldnt want to saddle my child with a name that harps back to a bleak moment in our history. I also think that vetoing the name Karen purely on the back of a meme that no one will ultimately remember is stupid, particularly when this isnt just a random name, but her mothers name and clearly something very close to her heart.
