My brother and I made fish baskets when we were kids in the 70’. Caught lots of fish. A old man that my father knew told us how to build them. He said he used them during the depression to help feed his family.

Can of sardines and not one crawdad the next day??? Have you tried chicken livers or hearts yet?? Pet shop shrimp works ok , I like cow heart ground up and two cups of baby Pablum and flavouring , mixed well, put in a nine by nine pan , cooked for forty five minutes in the oven at 250 until hardened , do not over cook it , then cut into one inch cubes for trap bait. Works to feed aquarium fish also.

Go to a farm supply store and get you some cotton seed meal cake. Break off a piece and put in the bait compartment or just place in the trap. Add an aluminum pie plate in the trap. Fish are attracted to shiney objects. You'll catch a lot more fish.

Try dry cat and dog food in your fish trap. It has always been successful for me for baiting fish traps. I also use it for baiting a fishing hole. I put the dry cat or dog in a mesh bag similar to a onion or to red mesh orange bags and drop in down into the water on a rope. If in a boat I use a marker body then and then fish all around the bag of food. As the dry food breaks down in the bag . Ever once in a while lift the bag in several jerking motions allow some of the food to disperse in the water like fish chum bag. Sometimes I do a bag in an area I want to fish the day before and fish over the area the next day. You can add a can or two of sardines to get a oil slick to permeate the water surrounding the dry food. I like to poke holes in the can with an ice pick to make it last long time while the bait mesh bag. Then everythime you disturb the bag or a fish disturbs the bag it releases more oils out of the sardine can. I have also use canned herring and mackerel. Works good in fresh water and saltwater both. It makes for a great chum line drifting in the current.

A Quartered up raw potato works best for Bream bait. We dont even use the bait box. We just throw a hand full of potatoes into the bottom of the traps every other day and add as needed. In the spring we put out at least 8 traps and run them all spring for Flathead and Blues and ocassional eating. These traps are Texas legal traps and we have caught upwards to 80 baits at a time in our Traps In lakes and ponds. I have built several of the Clover leaf traps and they work well. Texas legal traps are 3'X3'x1' with the openings at 1'''X3'''

The Sardines are great if you smash them up, pack into a small plastic cup, usually I put two tins to a cup, but the more the merrier. Put a small eyelet hook with a long shank into the middle, place in the freezer over night and you got a fishy oily catching popsicle. In clear water and or the ocean you can watch the fish just tear the popsicle apart. Oh pop the cup off in the boat and I wrap a bit of cellophane over the cup top to reduce smell in the cooler.

I found a very fast way to catch bluegills for bait. Use a 7' long ultralight (UL) rod, an UL reel with 2-4 lb test fluorocarbon, and a mini trout magnet (1/200 oz) jig, with a split tail grub (mini). Instead of casting, pull out 7' of line and flip the jig out into the water. Bluegills will come from all over to attack that jig. My personal best is 51 bluegills in one hour. I supply all the catfisherman at the local public fishing lake with bluegills.

Next time you use sardines mix the whole can in a mix of flour and cornmeal and make a ball out of it. It'll last a while and release that oil slowly over a day or so. Also buy a plastic shower loofa and find the string they tied it together with and cut it. You will be able to stretch it out to about 20 feet of seamless netting to make bait bags out of.

I use bread to catch bluegills in the summer. I lower down off a walking bridge and the attack it the bread like piranhas. When the bread disappears I know one has it in his mouth so I set the hook. Caught 40 bluegill in less than an hour last summer using this technique. It works!!!

Nice video BRO 🎣 👍. You could also make a Keep net, what us English Matchman angelers use. Lighter in weight, & comperres flat . As it made out of. A couple of steel hopes & 1/4 Inc soft mesh , like you find in a gardening store. All depends on , the length & diameter what you prefer.

Well I watched the video you made on catching bait fish , but the overall best bait fish bait that I have ever used is dry pellet dog food that is big enough that it won't pass thru the holes in your trap when it's dry ,but when you load your bait trap bait holder part you have to fill it up completely full of the dog food pellets so that as it sits in the Water it will expand and soften and pass thru the bait holder and become accessible to the fish which usually creates a feeding frenzy.
