You have, by FAR, the best fishing channel on KZread Mr. Gene!! I absolutely love your in depth videos mainly because I can see the passion you have for what you do AND I am a fellow Alabamaian!!! My wife and I just bought a home on 25 acres that has a 3 acre pond on it last February. The dam had blown out before we bought it so I repaired it and am currently working on restocking it with bluegill, shellcracker, and black crappie. Keep fishin buddy!!!

Couldn't agree with you more on the way that bluegills fight. I was trolling for walleyes one time with planer boards and hooked into a 12 inch bluegill. It took the planer board right under the water. Only time I ever had that happen with any type of fish.

Mr Gene I just got back from my local pond and HAD A BLAST THIS MORNING! I was catchin bluegill and putting them on a float and catchin bass after bass. Caught over 10 two pound + largemouth in this old sewage water pond next to a sewage plant. Also threw a rattle trap and caught a couple on it. I used your small rubber band on an EWG hook for weedless live bluegill cause that pond was full of hydrilla. Thank you to you and Elmo for teaching me a few tips and tricks! I haven't watched your video yet, but you better believe I will in about 10 seconds after I hit send on this haha.

I have caught a few decent sized gills here but I miss my childhood stomping grounds. Gills were common there. Now I have to drive about 30 to 40 miles to have a chance at decent sized panfish. My favorite light tackle set up for gills and crappie is the Okuma Kokanee spinning rod w/Okuma Avenger reel. I know the rod is meant for another fishing style, but the action is perfect for how I fish, and it was hard to find the action I was looking for, and it is it. Great action for finessing big gills on beds, with just a hook and a redworms or wax worm, or similar. Its all in the dead fall presentation sometimes.

Nice time catching bluegills. I remember once going to a local pond that no one fished for years but it was stocked some time ago. I was bass fishing with worms and caught a 9" long bluegill. It was almost as tall as it was long! Wow did that thing put on a show of strength. We had never seen such a big bluegill. Some years later I was in my car outside at a local fishing dive (The Tackle Box) and two guys came out to weigh a fish. This thing was so big I could see teeth on it from inside my car 15' away. Well that was it, I had to see what it was. Sure enough it wasn't a bay fish but a truly giant fresh water bluegill 13" long. What a fight it must have been to reel that thing in. I think it may be the record bluegill for Maryland. My record was 9" and was just fine, only caught one and that's fine too. Thanks for your video, brought back memories of catching a honey hole of bluegills on a canoe trip. Wish I had pictures of that day too.

We use a lot of crickets to fish for bluegill and we catch so many using those compared to anything else. Best fishing! Most fun I ever have when fishing.

Those reels look really similar to the old Cardinals my dad used to swear by. Easiest reels to work on and almost never give you problems. Last forever! Great video yet again Richard - you know your stuff.

I can tell a good way to fry them bluegill filets up. It’s a two step process first the dry coat then wet coat and right in the oil. My wife has this huge plastic salad bowl with a lid put 3 cups drakes mix salt and pepper to what you like drop your filets in dry mix put lid on bowl and shake for a few minutes filets should be coated completely. Now the wet mix take a large bowl pour in two of your beers mix in
