I built 3 of these some 15 years ago, but I used a heat gun for bending the spears on the throat... No string ever needed... and they're as perfect as the day I bent them... They work great...Great video...

Ever think instead of cutting bottom off, just cut pattern. Then cut bottom from bottom, instead of on side and make two throats out 1 bucket. It won’t fit in exactly the same but I’m sure it would work. Then you could make 2 traps out of 5 buckets instead of six. Just a thought, but I’m going to try it. I may end waiting a bucket but I guess we’ll see. Still a great idea.

Great job but personally I'm a bit surprised and shocked to see you waste the bottom "crown" of the bucket which makes as good of if not better throat than the upper half. I mean why not use it as well seeing as you've already done the work? I prefer to get two throats per bucket if I'm going through the trouble to orange peel one for traps. But then again....i also perforate both buckets to the max with a 7/8" paddle bit to shed as much weight as possible as well as allow better visibility as to what may be waiting inside the trap. I also make an inward opening one way spring loaded door on the bottom of the bottom bucket for fast dumping and baiting that way where my two buckets connect as well as my throat connects can remain permanently secured and sealed shut for added strength and longer life.

Got me to thinking. Have you ever tried installing a place where you could put a couple glow sticks in the bucket somewhere anchored so the fish don't knock it out and float down river. I know fish are attracted to light. Just Wondering if that would make a good thing even better. Or would it be overkill.

Mr. Tight Ass here, I'm thinking you could make a throat out of the scrap from that bucket. Tie wrap it into place and cut the bottom open. I might be easier to cut with a Dremel if ya used both ends. Shock cord would hold the shape while stretching to allow larger fish access. It's just so easy to set here and do nothing. Please forgive me. lol Check your local laws to see when its safe to run your traps. Night time could be best. Put a fishing rod in the boat just incase.

Chicken livers work great but you can throw any kind of meat in there. Maybe a can of dog food with a few holes punched in it. Drop it in the bottom of the trap with a brick to make it sink and make sure it’s tied off so you can find it later.
