I used a vitamin c serum back in July and ended up with 2 weeks of tiny bumps all over my face. At first I thought it was heat rash but it was so bad. Went to a derm and it turned out that the vitamin c did give me a reaction but the derm recognized more and sent me to see a rheumatologist. After many tests it turned out I have MCTD. Imagine trying skincare only to have a reaction that leads to the discovery of an unrelated autoimmune disease.

Thanks for sharing. The same happened to me. Used vitamin c broke out into a tiny rash accompanied by those painful bumps that then ripen and burst. Sorry for the graphics. I do have PCOS and was told by my dermatologist I'd never be rid of adult acne but only be able to manage it. What is your condition and how are you managing your skincare if you don't mind sharing? Thanks.

@@Ready120100 i have pcos too but my curse from that is hirsutism. Right now my skin is pretty normal. I don't usually react to products so the vitamin c reaction was a first. Up until my late 20s I had oily skin with a lot of blackheads and back-ne. Now I get them less frequently. I did start to use Differin gel mainly for the anti aging benefits and now I use tretinoin cream .025% and any bakuchiol product i have on hand. Right now im using the good molecules bakuchiol oil for dry skin but the smell is disgusting so i would not recommend. Beyond that it's simple cerave face lotion, sunscreen and a consistent routine with it all.

Your skin is absolutely gorgeous. I wouldn't expect anything less from a dermatologist, Great content.
I love the quality and consistency of the Major Fade Active Seal 💜, it feels so hydrating on my skin and has improved the appearance of my hyperpigmentation!
from Trinidad and Tobago with love, thank you for the detailed vid, as a wax-tech am now getting in facials and skin care, this has been super helpful, will share with my class group
I’ve been afraid of vitamin c because I thought they were all the same, and every product I tried seemed to make me break out. After watching this I started reviewing old products I used in the last…lo and behold, THD was the only vitamin c derivative i hadn’t tried. I bought the Pillowtalk Derm moisturizer per your suggestion a few weeks ago and it is a DREAM for my oily / acne-prone skin!! It’s become my daily ❤ Also really happy to finally find a black woman esthetician who understands pigmented skin. THANK YOUUUU 🙏🏽

Very informative and thank you for researching both luxury and budget alternatives for dry, sensitive and hyperpigmentation. You skin is glowing, radiant and healthy and beautiful. Look forward to learning more about skin care. Have a wonderful day!
I’ve been using April Skin 20% Vitamin C for 2 years. It has been a lifesaver as far as hyperpigmentation and made my skin Dewey/radiant.
I listened w/interest....& am going to try the CeraVe.....but, I have to admit, I just kept admiring your headwrap! It's beautiful. Love the shade of blue....such a pretty print & looks great on you. You have the friendliest face!
This is such a helpful video for anyone looking to incorporate vitamin C into their skincare routine! For those dealing with acne, DermalMD Acne Serum is a great option as it contains vitamin C as well as other powerful ingredients to help combat breakouts and fade dark spots. Plus, it's suitable for all skin types. Definitely worth checking out!
Your inner beauty is radiating externally - thanks for shining it on us. Let's *_face it,_* Dr. Alexis, you're a total gem💎 - Thanks for all you do! 💖
Awesome video!! Very informative!! First one I have seen that clearly breaks down the different skin types and needs!! Thanks!!!
I like the Day Dream serum from Bubble Skincare. I started using it for the niacinamide, but then noticed it has SAP as the 2nd ingredient and other stuff like alpha arbutin and ceramides. It has really helped with my hyperpigmentation. They do sell it in stores now, but they have sales all the time on their website so I like to wait to stock up.

This is so timely, I was recently looking for vitamin C and didn’t understand the breakdown of which one to use for my sensitive skin. Thanks Dr. Stephens! 😊
ROC also makes vitamine capsules, just like the retinol ones. Paula's Choice also makes an good affordable anti-oxidant serum that has THD.
Naturium works very well as well. I'm on my 2nd bottle! It's vitamin C serum is also very hydrating.

Thanks Dr. Stephens! If possible, I would love to see you review the Hyper! skin line.
Love the Skinceuticals C E Ferulic & have used for years.
You’re videos are awesome! Truly enjoy the educational aspects, and the wealth of knowledge you give! I saw your comments below regarding niacinamide- does it lighten or change your skin tone?! I’ve been using it and have actually noticed a lightening affect. Appreciate your thoughts!
Hi Dr Stephens, thank you for breaking down the vitamin C. I had a terrible experience with vitamin C when I first started it about 3 years ago. Left me with hyperpigmentation. But, I found this wonderful doctor named Dr Stephens 😊Thank you again and Happy Holidays to you and your beautiful family! 🥰
I use the Timeless Vitamin C, it does have the 20% L- ascorbic acid, but I love it, my skin is more radiant since using it

Doctor, I do love your content. Q: Would you please do a video on people with extreme sensitivity to sunscreens? Also, if you can do a video on lotion/creams for rough/ hyperpigmented/wrinkle hands? Is there any way to contact you for medical advice with pay of course? Thanks!
I couldn't find my daily face moisturizer for a while, my husband went out to the drug store to find any that had no dyes, perfumes, nothing, and he came home with vanicream full body moisturizer. Dude from the first time I used it I fell in love. I use it on my face, my body, new tattoos, everything, got their face wash and absolutely love it!! When I got to the sensitive skin and dark spots part I was like alright this my section and you whip out vanicream I lost my shit I had no idea they made that!!! Like anyone with sensitive combination skin, this brand is amazing!!! (Note that I have like up to 2-4 pimples a month usually from over drying or touching so I can't speak for what it does with ache)
Hi, Doc 🙋🏾♀️I'm new to your Channel. My question is what or which of these products would you recommend for very sensitive, oily skin with darkspots? I'm looking for darkspot removal with glowing skin without looking greasy.🤷🏾♀️ any advice?
Thank you, Dr. Alexis for another insightful video. Can I combine ordinary matrixyl, argireline and buffet copper peptides together for PM use only? I use olay vitamin c serum and cream in the morning. I have dark circles under and around my eyes and large pores.

The only one I have tried is Timeless and it burned my skin so badly! I may give vitamin C another chance with some of these products recommended. My skin has finally calmed down after turning 35. I was dealing with horrible cystic acne up until 3 months ago. Now I just need to get rid of decades worth of hyperpigmentation 😥 Hopefully the Vitamin C will help with that
