Excellent suggestions, amigo! I’m 66, original owner of a 1997 Flame Red Sport TJ….retired Navy and retired fed law enforcement….and I really miss my work (I know, I know…..how sick is that?!!?….but it’s true!). So now, to stay out of my wife’s “front sights” and safe from her countless “honey-do” items…I’m considering restoring my TJ. Bravo-Zulu, young man! And both of your Jeep’s scream “American Proud”! Well done!

Fester if you're driving a wider, oversized tire, they can also help add clearance on the inside of the tire from your control arms. That way your wheels don't rub on your control arms while you turn.

One thing I want to do to my TJ is go from a soft top and half doors to hard top and full steel doors, but I can't believe how much people want for these used. $800 to $1000 for the pair of full doors and $1250 to $1750 for a hard top! I thought since millions of these were made and lots of jeep tj owners took them off for 4 wheeling anyways there should be lots around cheap. Not around here in California.

It really depends how you're going to use it. - Lockable storage is nice, even if you never leave pavement. I have a Yakima rooftop box, so I'd probably get a body-mounted roofrack to put that on. A lockable steel console is nice too. - I'd like to tow a boat, so I'd get an LJ and set it up with high 2" receivers front and rear. Then I'd wire it for trailers. I'd also put airbags inside the coils to handle the loads without sag. - The receivers would also facilitate a multi mount winch (recovery), so I'd wire for that. - Armor is worth it if you want straight sheetmetal. I'd get rockers and rear corners to start. - Anti-swaybar disconnects can be fabbed for cheap, so I'd put some of those on, checking my brakehoses for adequate length. - I already have a few CBs for group trailruns. - Lunchbox lockers work. I could run 1 or 2 of those cheaply until regearing and going with selectables. - Siped mudders work great for me. I don't bother with ATs. 33x10.5s on 15x7s fit LJs with little to no other mods. - A 1" poly bodylift replaces trashed rubber bodymounts. It also clears 33x10.5s, a 1" motormount lift, and high-clearance skids. I'd work on those mods to maintain low COG while improving clearance. - I'd mount a snorkel, and also run all my vent hoses to the top of it. - 33s would necessitate a better carrier for the spare. I'd hang one on the rear receiver bumper. It'd be nice for mounting a rack above the spare, and water/fuel jerrycans on either side. - I'd convert the swingate to a tailgate that's sturdy enough to haul a dirtbike in the back of the Jeep with the softtop off. I could even turn the LJ into a pickup by using a bikini top and a cab curtain...with the rear seat removed. - A 2" spring lift would be simple, but allow more articulation and clearance. - Tube fenders for durability and more tire clearance would be great.

Rock. Sliders. Went wheeling following 2 guys on 37s locker jks and I kept up (besides the obvious massive rocks) on 31s besides constantly getting hung up on the absolutely stupid floor boards that came on the Sahara's. And the belly pan. 1 and 2. I mean if you don't wheel, sure. Worry about everything else. But I can't believe how much those floor boards held me up and how much the belly pan dug.

Put a stainless steel grill on it. I know many frown on chrome, or in this case, a chrome-like look. But when off roading the stock grill takes a major pounding from branches, rocks, debris, and the such. The Jeep bra does not work for too long as it starts to hold water against your Jeep's grill, and front, making it fade and eventually start rusting. But a true stainless steel grill is forever. It will never rust and it is extremely tough. Better a shiney mirror-like grill than a scratched up, pitted, rusting stock grill you have to paint every year. To extend this durability to other parts, stainless steel bumpers and side step bars will also last forever. Yes, they do look like chrome. But in many places, such as where I reside, powder coat might as well be spary paint the way it will rust to bits. I see it all the time. Someone throws away money on a powder coated tube bumper and it starts to rott away later with huge holes. So it may look like chrome but it is far tougher. 20 years after the install, the bumpers and grill still look new, even after lots of offroad adventures through very nasty mud, branches, and the such. Black powder coat does look better when new. But stainless is forever.

97 TJ down in the Caribbean. Bedlined interior and underneath, 4" susp lift, I've got 33s now but looking at those tires and thinking they'd do well here. Any recommendations for sandy rocky conditions that you know of? Like the idea of straight piping the 4.0 since there's no muffler laws here

Could be the door switch fuse behind the glove box that is blown or has been removed. Or the light could be burnt out. Towards the end of this video I show the fuse location kzread.info/dash/bejne/hYCV3LeQftCcj9Y.html

love your channel, I just bought a tj and started doing tons of cosmetic mods as well. When you went to 35s, what other adjustments have you made besides the fenders to run them properly? Also, I see you removed your tire carrier, is it legal to run no third brake light? I’m on wranglerTJForum you can see my build diary thread over there under ZildjianDevil Build Diary. Thanks again!
