Jeep TJ As a Daily Driver | Is it Any Good?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Video on whatever or not I think a Jeep wrangler TJ could or should be used as a daily driver. Also talk about if the tj is not a good daily for you what I recommend would be a good daily with sticking with jeeps. Hope you guys enjoyed the video! Let me know what you guys think. Do you guys daily your TJ?

What makes a Jeep so special to drive is the fun you have with it. From mods, wheeling, taking the top off, and enjoying a summer day. A TJ will not beat a daily commuter on cost savings, but me and anyone who likes to enjoy life gives up those cost benefits for an exciting vehicle experience. After all we spend a lot of our life in vehicles, would rather be in my TJ than a Prius.

I daily drove my 2001 TJ for a little over 5 years. I bought it with 80,000 miles, and it now has 143,500. It's a 4.0 liter, 5 speed manual. Super great visibility, easy to park and maneuver around. Most reliable vehicle I've ever owned. It's never left me stranded anywhere. It's truly a shame that Chrysler killed off the 4.0 inline six...

I have been driving mine for off road, trails, rural roads, suburban driving, and urban driving since 1996. I never thought I would have her this long. But as the new vehicles keep coming out, my aging TJ looks better and better every year. I would actually be taking a huge step backwards if I were to get something modern.

I got mine in 1996 as a 1997. It is by far the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. What it lacks in fuel economy, it more than makes up for it in supernatural reliability. It is more economical than a new fuel economy vehicle with a payment. I do not see how purchasing a vehicle that makes 39 to 42 miles to the gallon is economical if you have to pay a very expensive payment. My fuel usage is far under a payment.

I live in New York City and daily drive a 05 TJ Rubi, hands down the best city vehicle. Parking is so easy with the short wheelbase and tight turning radius (no driveway, I street park). With steel bumpers you don’t need to worry about someone bumping your car and damaging it lol. Don’t need to worry about horrible road conditions & potholes. Sitting in traffic I’m comfortable even with a manual - so easy to drive. I think a lot of people in the city have realized this, I see TJs EVERYWHERE. Just make sure you have a hardtop lol

I daily a 2005 4 cyl manual and I agree with everything you said in this video. With the soft top, it can definitely get loud, which can make conversations hard. Driving solo, there isn't a big issue with that though. On the highway, I can generally keep up with traffic going 65-75 but there won't be any passing going on. It can definitely get you from point A to point B. The interior is very basic. I think the seats are definitely not bad or uncomfortable but they're not the best either (but that may have to do with me being 6'2"). With that said, I absolutely love it and wouldn't trade it for anything. Well, maybe an LJ or a rubi... Your vids have helped me out a lot, man. I appreciate the content and look forward to more in the future. Much love from Florida, stay warm, hahaha.

With 35" wheels and and a 3.5" lift, the gas mileage can fall to 14 mpg combined. A stock TJ is going to have better gas mileage. However, MANY cars only take premium gas. If you factor in the price difference between 87 and 93, your gas costs can be similar.

Long Commutes: get a quiet muffler as that helps...noisy 4.0L sixes are typically for Millennials only, especially of the G.I. variety or even the Zoomer gen. Also, get a SYE and a double cardan driveshaft = less vibes. Also, good AT tires like BFG KO2's, and not mudders, make for a good daily driver and can still go off pavement w/o issues. I have daily drove my tj for 7 years now, i have 2.5 4 cylinder in mine. I push it to the max with a 4inch lift and pushing 33s. My average is 13 miles to a gallon. I love my jeep, im actually in the process of fixing it up. I wouldnt surgest it for a 1st vehicle, especially if you have snow in your area. The short base at times could be quite difficult and with in experienced driver they would most likely freak out and get the result that no one wants. With that said, i would buy it again and the jeep will be with me and my family forever

I have a 2006 TJ 4.0L (same color) and I daily drive it without any issues! Just did 170 miles on it yesterday and it was fine other than being on the turnpike on a windy day, which kinda sucked having a soft top! It's rare I'm on the turnpike or Interstate, so other than that, it's fine for daily commutes!

3:22 to make the soft top not flap you can turn on the ac or heat . I guess the pressure in the jeep stops the top from flapping.

I just found a 2000 TJ, has 35's 136k miles, Az car so no rust at all. It was a toad RV dinghy, so a lot of the miles are from towing. White and tan. Just love the look. Prices are out of this world. What muffler was on your rig, sounds good. As of today, gas is $3.25, I paid $12500 and could probably turn it around and make a couple of grand.

I drive my '02 TJ on the freeway at 70+mph and it's not bad now that I put small airbags in the rear coil springs and keep 10 lbs in them. Before that I did not like driving much over 60-65 but driving 70-75 the MPG drops from 19 to 17 and even an occasional 80mph is not scary as it use to be. BUT . . . mine is stock suspension. I came here looking for daily driver lift kit advice.

I love my 2000 TJ as I'm nice and high up so great visibility and in cold TJ heaters are the best. Highway though I stay away as soft top it's like a wind tunnel so do mostly local street driving. Took rear seat out so lots of space for golf clubs and fishing gear. Good review Kyle.

I just got my first Jeep last year, it's a 2000 TJ with the 2.5,140,000 miles on it when bought,168,000 now,it does have the 2.5 Rattle not worth a damn on the hwy ( mpg) wise, soft top, zipper on back window broke so no back window went all winter with out a back window up here in Northern Arizona, great heater!Lol, buy it is my daily Driver, and I spend about 60/40 Hwy/offroad in it and wouldn't trade it for the world, or maybe a new Gladiator just for the towing capabilities Love my TJ!😎😎

Definitely pro's and con's to daily driver, but I'll say I just completed a basic build "everyday TJ" on my channel jeepNdirt for my dad who needed a daily driver / forest service road vehicle / basic off road setup. The end result was really basic, impressive, reliable, and zippy. I love that little jeep on 3.5 inches and 33's. (Note I'm at 21 years of ownership of a built YJ that I used for daily driving for many years with the 3 speed auto and 35's and 4.10 gears and never complained except for when I had to take interstate trips and had to keep it at 65 lol. ) My new (to me) built 2018 built JLUR on 38's (as seen on my channel) takes care of the highway issue, but I love my dads TJ as it's like having a sports car (on 33's) but still have the ability to go off road. Great stuff man.

I bought mine as a weekender but I could daily it. I’d rather daily a more comfortable ride though. The noise and bumps beat you up after a long day. Road trips also make your butt numb. Parking it is a dream compared to my truck. All in all it’s Fun to be high up in a capable iconic vehicle and Off-roading is amazing!!
