Winds howling through old ruins. The faint scream of a lone scavenger. The nameless hero is on his lonely hunt for wolf skins and healing herbs again.

    I just have to write here this: It made my life different when I was child and played this with music, lore, dark atmosphere, storyline and everything which gothic 1 and 2 had. It changed me to love mystic things and history, now in 4th year of studying archaeology I can say this was one thing this game that made impact im my life. When you are a small child and playing this it is something which is hard to decribe. Remeber all dark nights how I was afraid to go to the cave etc... Want to say big thank you for this game and hope that this world will see something like this once more.

  • @TechSupportDave

    @TechSupportDave

    4 жыл бұрын

    I have to agree with you. As a child, everything seems so much bigger than it actually is, making a world such as the world of Gothic a huge, exciting but scary place. Took me endless hours to get to the sect camp alone, because I was too afraid of the lizards and the scavengers. I avoided all monsters with all my might, and this made the game so much more realistic, because a regular NPC may struggle with many monsters, so being at the level of an NPC, scared you will die, forgetting to save, it brings you to that realistic actions level. Any warnings from NPCs you would treat seriously, you'd never go into the black forest, never enter caves, you would stay away from monsters that you don't know about because you think that they are very dangerous and powerful. Interactions would feel almost real, you'd be scared for your life if you made someone angry (i.e Thorus), and you'd want to settle in that world, work as a miner or become a shadow (but with great difficulty), and live a peaceful life within the game, away from any dangers. You would find a hut to decorate with wings or meat, or accessories that you have stolen. You would want to actually see some arena battles, but never get to see any sadly. You soon realise how big the game actually is, you discover a new camp that you had no idea existed, and it feels so fresh and exciting. So much to explore, so many people to interact with, how do you complete the sect quests? You keep running around for tens of gameplay hours trying to find a specific person, decide to give up. You find them in another camp, but then the quest only gets harder. You want to go to the mines, but have no idea where they are and guards told you that you shouldn't enter the dark forest, so you roam, but are of course too afraid to roam freely so you retreat back and find easier and less scary quests to try and complete. The gameplay experience as a 5/6 year old child is so much different from your experience as an adult. This was my attempt at conveying the emotion you feel as you play the game as a child. The game is big and unknown, and after endless hours, you give up and try gothic2. Then things only start getting even more interesting, all-over again. I never tried gothic3 as a kid though, so maybe that is why I find it hard to get into it. But i'm sure i'll like the game if I try playing it for a little bit longer.

The Life in trough Christ is like an rpg. The aim is to walk on the narrow path and enter into heaven and bear fruit for the Kingdom of God. Gothic is so fantastic inspiring game for me... But people, this game has much to say: dont waste your life before TV and computer screens. What you see in the game is a simulation of REAL life with its surprises, andventures and dangers. Dont play as a nameless Hero but BE that Hero. Explore the world, find your path in the nature and search for your own purpose of life. This is that message gothic brought me. Enjoy the life and beat the everyday stereotypes.

So "poetic" that Pyranha didn't gave him a name. We were all clever and strong heroes, who wanted to change the world for better. Now it's time to be a Hero in Real world :)

    For the last 15 years I have been wondering why I love the nostalgia so much, which the sound of this game brings back to me ... Why is this game so emotionally stuck in my memory? Sometimes I thought it was a matter of plot, sometimes it was a matter of the game world, thanks to which something was happening everywhere, sometimes it was the excitement of not being able to die because my computer was loading the save for 20 minutes, or maybe it was because this game helped for me to calm down after the toe treatment, when I felt terrible pain ... Today I probably understood what it really is! Pay attention to who the nameless person was. He was abandoned, without family, alone in the wild. Must have survived ... Does it remind you of something? We listen to this because this game is an allegory of our childhood. We, who love to listen to the sounds of "Gothic 1 & 2", had a similar childhood. Sick childhood. And this game helped us like no other to escape from what was happening at home. Just take a look at all coments for Gothic soundtrack ... I feel we all have similar story.

    Just imagine. You are 9 or 10 years old young boy. Coming from the school, and first thing that you do is playing Gothic on your old pc. Your mom giving you tea and sandwich, and you forget about all little problems, tasks and immerse yourself into the game. Time when your life was much different. Time when world was much different as you are. I miss these times, and ready to give all to return back at least for one day. I believe that we all miss, and that we all have good , warm memories from the past about this game

    Gothic 2 had the most atmosphere of just about any other free roam RPG I've played in modern times. The music was beautiful, the visuals gorgeous, the freedom practically unlimited. I'm sure I could pick it up again today and still find something new, be that a tiny nook with some herbs I never found before or a full cave ready to be explored. They really made sure to give us enough content for many years.. and I love them for it. Gothic 3 was gorgeous in its own right, but too simple fighting mechanics really did the game in. Still, I enjoyed hundreds of hours of game time. With the Gothic franchise back in the hands of its original creators, I wonder if they'll do a Doom comeback.

    same for me. I have two vivid memories from Gothics. First is my trip to the mines in G1, avoiding the wolves by going along the river and being scared as fuck. Another is chapter 2 in G2 when you need to go to the castle in the colony to meet Garond. Boy, how scared I was, swimming in the river and doing all I could to avoid any orcs. Felt like a real scout going under the radar. Now I know i can just run like a maniac towards the castle and nothing bad will happen, but back then, as a kid, it was so emotional experience that I remember it even now, after ~17 years.

    Taking glitches and bugs aside: gothic 3 still had the charm of the series, the music, locations like waterfall by Silden, peaks and huge cracks of Nordmar or endless sandy wastes of Varant. Shame the game had ended up like this, because it could've been so much more if JoWood didnt rush PB to push the game out ASAP. I still recall getting this game for X-mas when i was 11, and being confused AF as to why can't I kill the orcs past the intro battle for Ardea, ahh.. those were times.. ;)

Why some good studio doesn´t buy the brand or cooperate with current owners, gets sponsors and create something like The Elder Scrolls or Dragon Age? The Gothic series are among my favorite games of all times. Gothic 2 Gold Edition was the first game I ever had for PC, and I'm so grateful for it. These games are like no other at creating an atmospheric experience. This track brings back memories from my first time playing Gothic 3. I remember it was me and Copper. We had just finished the deer quest for Chris and we were cooking the meat by the fire when night fell upon us. I couldn't teleport to Ardea, since Copper was with me, so we had to make our way there on foot. I couldn't see nothing in the darkness, but I could perfectly hear the cries of nearby scavengers. I sprinted my way towards Ardea, turning at every moment to check if Copper was following me. Once we crossed the village's gate, I felt a real sense of relief. I went to the second floor of Hamlar's house, my favorite spot, and skipped the night there. No other game, besides The Elder Scrolls games probably, has made me feel this sense of 'coziness'. ArcaniA and the Risen series are good, specially the first Risen game, but nothing like this jewel.
