Thanks for posting this great review and summary of generators vs. user requirements. I'm going to buy a WEN 56203i to prepare for the upcoming hurricane season.

Glad the information was helpful! In case you haven't made the purchase, yet, do look into the slightly newer 56235i (as was suggested by another viewer). Almost identical but slightly bumped specs. Either unit should serve you well. Cheers!

Funny, but I agree with your whole 'process'. Hmmm, I ended up with a Wen 56235i 2,350W Inverter Generator instead of the 2kW version you did. I need the extra oomph for my 9,600 BTU roof mounted AC compressor lock on start up. But, I ALSO had to install a Micro-Aire 'Soft Start' for the AC to reduce the load. $300.00 for the Soft Start & $43.00 bux extra for the 350W to git her up n running!

Much more useful information than the average review for generators. I have ordered this WEN unit for delivery next week and and now am even more confident I made a good choice. This will be a supplement to a Predator 3500 inverter generator, and boosts my total power available to 5500 surge, 4,700 running watts, both having "Eco" mode allows them to reduce fuel costs also.

For the price, you can't beat the WEN and Predator inverter units! I was trying to be general and agnostic in my video message, but I do really like these products. Hope your new generator serves you well. Cheers!

Excellent video!! I just bought the Wen 56235i for the purpose of powering my High efficiency forced air furnace and the blower on my power vent gas hot water heater, only. My thoughts were that the clean power provided would be safer for my furnace and also this little generator would use far less fuel than my 4000 watt generator I'll use intermittently for other appliances. The Wen generator will be far easier to hook up in a power outage. In a prolonged power outage, you may not be able get gasoline so the small amount used by the Inverter generator will keep you warm a whole lot longer!!

Excellent! I might be picking up a 56235i to run in parallel with this one. By the way, toward the end of this past summer we had a really bad wind storm that knocked out power in our neighborhood for 2 days. I was finally able to test this little guy on a full tank and it ran on a half load (including a small refrigerator) for 14 hours before I stopped it to refuel! I kid you not... It ran that long... WEN rates it at 7.5 hours at half load. The tank is relatively tiny, so that was very impressive to me. It will definitely do 7.5 hours without breaking a sweat. Enjoy your new generator!

@@BreakingPintMedia That is amazing!! The other selling point for me was the fuel shutoff. You can run the carburetor empty preventing any problems with degraded gas in the bowl---always a big problem in small engines.

Hey, don't forget that those small Inverter/generators can be paired for a small investment. Then, you can safely double whatever you bought. That for the safety of your electronic investments (TV's, Apple products, etc...) may be worth filling 2 gas tanks every 6 to 8 hours (load dependent)...

Funny, but I thought there were just generators: open framed, loud & watt rated & inverter Generators- Pure Sine Wave & mostly closed box quiet? If you are on a jobsite-who cares how loud it is? If you lose electricity & a it's outside- who cares how loud it is? But, for RV's & campers, quiet is needed & PSW for running TV's coffee makers, microwaves, etc..I needed an RV Inverter Generator- and originally, I thought I needed 30 Amp, cuz my RV is 30 Amp. Hahaha....

I will say you need both an open frame for the day and the inverter generator at night . The inverter can run over night with out disturbing the neighbors.

Thanks for the informative video. Does the 56203i need grounding for regular use?

  • @BreakingPintMedia

    @BreakingPintMedia

Glad you found the video informative! As for the grounding, it is not necessary but recommended. I'd say, if you'll be powering any large appliances (furnace, medium sized fridge, etc...) which use 3-prong AC cords then you'll likely want to connect to ground. If not for your own safety, for that of the electronics within. There might even be some furnace control modules that won't allow their motors to be energized if they don't detect proper grounding.

This Wen is pictured throughout the clip, and is touted as being capable for both sensitive applications such as computers, as well as more robust needs. Thus, the implication is that it can provide power for the whole house during outages, by an on-demand usage. I'm shopping for such a generator, and I just had a manual transfer switch installed yesterday, with an outlet to connect a generator. However from the clip, I do not see a female outlet that I can plug a generator cord into. Would I need to run multiple extension cords from the generator into the house? That would defeat the purpose of my manual transfer switch. Thank you for the clip.

When running whole house through a transfer switch, I highly recommend something with more power than this specific WEN model. However, you can by use of a parallel kit, which will provide you with the needed outlet to hook up to your generator transfer switch circuit's male inlet. If you do use this or any other sub 3k watt model, make sure you are very selective of the circuits to power. I'd limit it to circuits running lights, small appliances, and a high efficiency gas furnace. Anything else will hit the running watts limit of this generator very quickly...

You need a parallel kit with 2 generators to have a 30 amp plug for your transfer switch

  • @BreakingPintMedia

@@randalltaylor3700 true but most transfer switch circuits are 240V. This model WEN only supports 120V in parallel, so it depends on how the transfer switch is wired.

Inverter generators are quieter and do have clean sign waves this is true. But they do put out EMI on HF ham radio. But most do not buy these inverter generators for ham radio use. But if you do, use a battery charger that does not put noise on the radio. Then use a battery for the ham radio and use inverter generator to battery charger to charge the battery. 73's and have fun

Its not the dirty Elec that will Harm Electronics its Voltage Surges & Spikes . If Dirty Elec. harmed Electronics then all those People that have the BIG 20-30KW Whole House Generator would be burning up Electronics Because there NOT Inverter Generators ! Reg Generator use two Methods to Control the AC voltage output First and The Worst is a Capacitor the Engine RPM's Go up & Down when a Load in Put On and Removed the AC Voltage will go Up & Down too NOT GOOD for Electronics ! But a Generator with a AVR (Automatic Voltage Regular) the AC Voltage will Be Stable and is OK for Electronics , Inverter Generator where there Really Are useful is in CAMP Grounds where they have Restrictions on Noise from using a Generator or Neighbors that may get upset . Small Portable Inverter Generators are WAY WAY less Noisy then a BIG Regular Open Frame Generator ! IF you already have a Regular Generator and what to use it to Power Electronics with the rest of your House MAKE sure it have a AVR and NOT a Capacitor Most Newer Generators use a AVR But older One used Capacitor a lot If your does have a capacitor i try and sell it and Buy One with a AVR .
