Best Example of Opening Statement in Courtroom

In this video Denzel Washington shows - how to make opening statement impressive. It also shows how to pull the attention of a judge and other people siting in the courtroom.

I love how he looks straight into the camera and says "ladies and gentlemen of the jury", with the next shot tying it to the jury. It doesn't feel like he's breaking the fourth wall, but at the same time it connects the audience to the jury, placing the viewer in the jury. He also says "forget everything you've seen in the movies" which further cements suspension of disbelief

Both is good but I’ve seen way better!! With all due respect, I love Denzel, but this is not the best! You should watch the opening statement from Al Pacino in Justice For All! Best monologue ever! And his acting is art! Real and raw acting and emotions.

I think its a brilliant opening speech, I love how he starts with facts and then add emotion to it and then end it with law. I just click this video, I didn't see the whole movie, so I don't know the whole facts or story, but due to this opening statement, I grasped the case theory, and I think it made me understand what's the case is all about.

Daniel von Bargen did indeed die at 64. He had a long career in TV and films. In addition to Kruger on Seinfeld he had a couple of other notable appearances playing one of the SWAT team guys in "The Silence Of The Lambs" and Jacob Steven Haley in The X-Files episode "The Pine Bluff Variant" On February 20, 2012, von Bargen shot himself in the temple during an apparent suicide attempt. After von Bargen placed a phone call to a 911 operator, emergency crews were dispatched to his Montgomery, Ohio, apartment. Von Bargen suffered from diabetes and, at the time of his attempted suicide, had been living with one leg amputated. He was due to have several toes amputated on his remaining foot and reportedly did not want to submit to another surgery. He died of an undisclosed, long illness presumably related to his diabetes.

Back then vices of America were very American. Less influence from Asian immigrants. Legal firms dominating like anything, Wall Street was crawling after 1988-89 crisis, the wester part seemed far and away, souther states were transforming, Governor Clinton in Arkansas was damaging, internet hadn't arrived, ...and much more. The Irish American community owning NY, Boston, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, NJ, etc areas. Back then if America accused Sadam Hussain of anything, 28 countries were behind it and supported ... Things changed after 2001. The Myth vanished.

Dorothy Draper an Interior Decorator did work on a Hotel where Men would "Meet" and Ladies would rent rooms. Also in the 1950's A Couple got Married and African American Men had their own "Private Parties".
