Torrens doubleplay to end the Philadelphia game in London is the biggest play of the year in my opinion...it was so clutch it almost made me forget about Lucas Dudas World Series ending play or Carlos Beltran resting his bat on his shoulder while I was sinking into depression ... I know that he was in the minors for a reason and with Alvarez back and being perhaps the main driving force behind this team his playing time is minimal but jeez when he has been on the field he has been awesome ...playing himself into a big fat contract maybe for some team down the road ... good for him

He’s really been great. Got him from the Yankees basically for free, while their catching duo of Trevino/Wells has been struggling. It’s great to know that when Alvarez isn’t in the lineup, you have someone reliable who can step in and contribute.

Imagine the Mets held onto Nido because of his tenure and familiarity with the club. Torrens came in and got hot and was making insane plays defensively. So much you question why was this guy in the minors. But the Mets saw and trusted that Torrens can continue his hot stretch and be impactful on both sides

Horrible call that bailed out Garrett, but it wasn’t a foot under the zone lol. Looked about 4-5 inches low, though.

Regarding the Mets catching position, I guess they were cursed from the start of the draft with the 1966 acquisition of Chilcot rather than Reggie Jackson. Aside from Piazza,Grote, Hundley, D’Arnaud the Mets catching has been wanting for the last 60 years.

Orze makes me nervous due to his high walk rate, he was 15.1% last year and 13.3% this year. Seems like he's hard to hit with a .207 average against, but a reliever that comes in wild can be worse than a hittable reliever. I'm looking at you Jake Diekman!

Martinez is such a good hitter, he’ll break out of it but it’s never fun to see your no. 3 hitter in a slump. He and especially Alonso had some brutal at-bats early in yesterday’s game.

This is not a complete surprise. In June, everyone but McNeil was hitting, now that they are in the midst of a 17 game stretch without a day off, they will be tested. I expect them to be 2-3 games out of the wildcard by the trade deadline.
