Lucky you. I am in zone 6a. Never heard anyone have dahlia come back if left in ground

Thank you Scott for taking us to your beautiful greenhouse. You are wonderful. I have a question. I planted Dahlias and Zinnia in planting trays two months ago and now they have several leaves. Is it better to cut them to make the roots strong?

If they are well established you could give them a trim.

Thank you for many tips that I really need for growing dahlias. My plants haven't bloom yet and got eaten by bugs leave turned brown & dead. I cannot saved them can I?

Be sure to use a systemic insecticide for prevention, that way they are protected before the bugs start munching. Bonide has a great systemic here: amzn.to/3pK3zjU

Thank you for sharing. I adore dahlias but have avoided them over the past three years due the dahlia-cutworms. Does this systemic product assist with the cutworms? It’s been a huge problem for me.

Yes, it would.

How long does it take insecticide to work? I have a dahlia that comes back every year and grows lots and lots of big buds but the flower never opens or is really deformed. I suspect it’s the thrifts you’re talking about.

It may take a couple weeks to get into the plant properly. We like to use Bonide Systemic insecticde especially for dahlias. That is available here: amzn.to/43Zypmz
