i know a lot of people are giving this camera a miss because this camera as not got 4K. If you think about it not many of us watch 4K mainly because most of us watch on our phones or laptop which most are not 4K.

@@bostonmike5981 Even on a smaller screen, video recorded in 4k looks a little better. But in general, I totally agree. I usually shoot in 1080p because it takes up far less space, and has more framerate options.

Very nice. I just purchased a 70D after you recommended it and loving it. The video quality and auto-focusing for video is a game changer after using the T3i for a year.

Oh my two is driving me mad now. Now autofocus during video is driving me crazy. I'm wondering if this SL2 is better than my 600D..

I love that you shared this today. I just got my SL2 yesterday and as soon as I could hold it in one hand and take a photo I said, Whee! I have the Panasonic G85, G7 and the Canon 80d. I have small hands and I wanted a camera to keep in my sling when I step out the door. I love my other cameras and each one has it's purpose, but having a small camera with all these features is amazing! ...I love your channel. Keep up the good work. It is a blessing.😊

So Bryn, the SL2 is smaller than a G7? I'm a camera newbie, but it seems like camera lovers gravitate towards bigger cameras. I see Casey N. doing selfies with a $10k camera that must weigh 5# and I just don't get it. Looks like a job for a Panasonic LX10 or Sony RX100. I do love the AF on the SL2 though which is why I was watching this video.

Hey Todd: The Sl2 is a little smaller and lighter than the g7. Of course they will both weight more if you put a heavy lens on them. I mostly keep a canon 24mm lens on my Canon Sl2. Also, it may not have all the features my Canon 80d has but it's like it's baby. It's not grown up but has inherited some of the Canon 80d DNA. Hee,hee. Whew that autofocus! 😊

Thanks for the reply. I would have bet anything that the SL2 was bigger. At it's current price, I might get weak and pick one up. I go my whole life and never get sick, and now I've got cameraitis. Just great! :)

Great video, Sean! I was a previous SL1 user, who upgraded to the SL2 body the day it was released. LOVE it for when I need to use lightweight equipment!! I recently bought the G7X Mkii because of all the hype, but returned it because the SL2 was just much better for me. The focusing on the SL2 nails it every time with my Canon 24mm/2.8 lens.

The SL1 was my favorite and I'm happy to see they released an even better model of it.

11:00 Can someone tell me why 9 auto focus points doesn't affect to the video quality? I was confused what to buy between 77d and SL2, and I'll definitely buy SL2 thanks to Sean, but still I want to know why auto focus points affects on the photo quality not the video quality :D

9 aouto focus points is less than you would get in other cameras, thats it. It doesnt affect the quality in the pictures but its sertainly going to be harder to get the best shot. 🙄

9 AF points is for photo, not for vidéo. DPAF is on the surface of the sensor.

For photos especially for new photographers 9 seems limiting. Not impossible. I do prefer more focus points though. Focus and recompose is a good skill to pracrice anyway. The 9 will make you a better photographer.

Dude, thank you for this. I've been going back and forth between this and the 7D and I think for my purpose (beginning family travel blog/vlog) the 200D will be just right. We have been shooting outside footage with our GoPro hero session 5 with 4K (amazing) but when we do head shots of us talking with the GoPro, it looks all wrong (rounded effect). Love your vids, so insightful. Thank you!

I shoot with a 1DX2 and 5D4 and I still bought this camera. I previously owned two SL1 cameras because their size and portability make them the absolutely perfect camera to take on vacation. I sure as hell am not bringing a 1DX2 on a fun trip, but bringing one of my full frame bodies has been cumbersome when I'm just trying to escape work and have some fun. This is a HUGE upgrade from the SL1 and I'm happy to using it. I really wish it had the AF system from at least the T6i, but the addition of Dual-Pixel AF makes it a wash. You're not going to be shooting sports with this thing, you're going to be creating images of moments and landscapes. It's perfect for that.

I just bought this today on impulse seeing it for a great price, came home and was about to unbox it when I realized I’d bought the Canon 2000D 😳 It’s going straight back to the shop!

You always come through with the detailed reviews on the cameras I’m interested in buying. This video is extremely helpful. Thank you, I def want this as a beginner who will be establishing a fashion blog & KZread channel soon 🥰

I got this camera for two reasons and so far I love it. #1 I've been using my 6D for almost everything going on a few years now. Recently it had to go to the repair shop. While it was there I had to break out the old t3i. It was then I realized how much I wanted a flip screen again. I have a bunk knee and I like shooting a lot of low angle landscapes and the flip screen helps a lot. No more kneeling or lying on the ground. So now, as an upgrade, I purchased the sl2 for my main landscape camera. #2 I'm wanting to start vlogging and found this to be a highly rated camera. I took it out on the trail today for a test run and it did not disappoint. It tracked my face very well. The image stabilization in the kit lens worked great for video too. I'm loving this camera for video and it takes really good photographs when using my L-Glass. I'm still using my 6D for portraits and wildlife, but when it comes to landscapes this will be my go to camera body.

I was not sure of my choice, but after hearing your comments, I am convinced that this device is completely adapted to my needs. Excellent review and intelligent comments!

how do u like it

my question being how great is the sl2 in low light? I wanted to start vlogging, but be able to vlog in lower light situations with maybe a prisma light, but a dark room. how would my quality turn out? and what would you suggest as the lens? 10-18mm?

Got it! I was struggling on going all the way to M50, but having access to all my other Canon lens right out the go and the size to hand is so much better on SL2. Can't wait until it arrives soon

When you make the videos I noticed how smooth and stabilized it was, were you using a tripod or stabilizer, if yes is it stable without anything?

You keep talking about this particular camera and when you talk about something I HAVE to get it eventually!! I don't comment on you videos much but I love watching and learning from then too! Keep up the awesome work

Based on your reviews and weeks of research, I'm certainly going with the SL2 over the M3 (not ready to give up the EVF just yet). One point worth mentioning, is that although the 9 AF points seems limited, once in live-view you've got the entire screen to play with; so infinitely more AF points. Cheers!

Can you please do a video comparing the t7i and this camera? (A side by side video kind of comparison) Best bang for the buck between the two ? Mostly for video for Vlogs and average KZread stuff. 1080p is good. Thanks. I notice the t7i comes in a creator kit with a rode mic but I can’t find a version like that for the sl2. So price break down after getting the mic and gorilla pod too. Thanks Sean.

I’m not a photographer as much as a new film maker that wanted a great set up that would last me a few years. I’m starting with some of my Canon glass I already had but I’ll be adding Rokinon Cinema glass later. Thanks again to you and your wife for the demonstration of shallow dof

Thanks for the great videos. Just picked up the SL2 for all the reasons you mentioned in your reviews. I went for the camera body and two lenses recommended in your other video: the 24mm and the 50mm. I'm mainly interested in video but also wanted a more 'stylized' look than what the kit lens offers.

if you are only going to vlog i recommend the Canon G7X ii, i have a Canon 80D and the G7X ii and i find myself using the G7X ii more often, it's portable, a power house, you feel more comfortable in public with a smaller camera as well. Also takes great pictures for those nice thumbnails.

Choose G7X for portability, choose SL2 for options like external mic input or the ability to switch lenses fast

Hi :) This seems like a very good camera for me! I only have one question ☝️ I have heard that digital cameras, that are not a camcorder, shut down video past 30 min recording. This is a problem for me as I want to record live DJ sets that would last at least an hour. Is there any feature that could make me film for over an hour straight without having to touch it? I have this camera, and I can tell you that it does stop recording after half an hour, and I haven't found a way to make it record for longer. Maybe you'd have to invest in another type of camera :/

I watched soooo many videos trying to figure out which camera to get between Canon M50, SLR2, 70D or 80D, still haven't made my mind up but I am getting close because of your videos. You definitely have a new subscriber in me.

Cameras are usually $3000+. If you can't afford a $700 camera, you aren't on a budget, you're broke
