That is too simplistic. Displacement does not equal horsepower, Engine design and overall weight are very important for performance. Even in this test, the Honda with 290cc easily outran the 349cc Royal Enfield. The KTM 390's and Kawasaki 400 twins are quicker than most V-twin cruisers under 900cc and are very close to stock 1200 sportsters. The Royal Enfield 650's are slower too, but still a lot of fun. I have been riding off and on for almost 50 years and currently ride a Z400 because it is light, fun and quick enough for me. For me, light weight and good handling make twisty backroads a lot of fun. Heck, even tootling though neighborhoods with sharp enough turns can be a good time.

@HanSolo__

Which bike did you pick? If you don't have one yet, check 500 ccm offers. 20HP is too little power, and the Enfield is a heavy motorcycle for a 300 class. Something like ER 500 or CBF500 are both decent starter choices. Even SV650 is frankly a beginner-friendly motorcycle. If you are looking for a cruiser, such as a Royal Enfield Meteor 300, the Honda VT600C will handle even better than this and its reliability is day and night compared to Enfield.
Jen on the RE smashed everyone on the looks/style (while riding) department though, looked the coolest during the drag race which was the closest they came to cruising
I think the reason the Sondors was so slow was that the claimed torque (if it's even accurate) is direct wheel torque, whereas the rest of the bikes have their engine torque multiplied by the transmission and chain, leading to a much higher wheel torque. It's like starting in 6th gear.
@beachdoktor1
Жыл бұрын
Sondors deliberately limits the torque on initial acceleration runs by selecting “soft start” throttle mapping on the programming for its controller. I assume this is done in an effort to maintain new rider friendliness and long battery life. Many high power Electric bikes become uncontrollable stoplight wheelie machines without limiting the throttle mapping as 100% of their torque is delivered at zero rpm.
@crudboy12
Жыл бұрын
@@beachdoktor1 Some gas bikes do the same thing. In this case, however, the Sondors was fighting for last with a Royal Enfield Meteor 350, so I don't think there was much risk of it being uncontrollable. The RE meteor 350 has a first gear drive ratio of approximately 3:1 and a final drive gear ratio of approximately 2.8:1. At the engine's peak torque of 27 NM, the rear wheel is getting 156.6 NM of torque, or 115.5 ft/lbs. That's not far off of what the Sondors claims. Accounting for a healthy dose of startup bullshit, and the fact that the two machines were roughly comparable in terms of performance makes a lot of sense.
@supersnot4
Жыл бұрын
@@beachdoktor1 My Zero DSR definitely limits torque from a stop. Gun it from a rolling start though and it takes off like a rocket. My brother's FX software is a lot less limiting, and it will power wheelie like nobody's business. Even with over 30 less horsepower, it will beat my DSR from a stop up to about 30. Both bikes absolutely have the capability of looping out from a standstill if Zero were to allow 100% torque from a stop.
@siraff4461
Жыл бұрын
@@beachdoktor1 Most of them don't limit it because they're uncontrollable - most of them do it to keep the transmission in one piece. Electric motors make a whole heck of a lot of torque at pretty much zero rpm and if you make a transmission (geared or otherwise) which can take that hit then you have more weight and a lot of extra drag which kills range. Since that torque ability drops off so soon they usually build the components to safely take the torque from a few mph because there's no point in having massive final drives or in the Sondors' case internal shafts when that torque is only there at pretty much a standstill. Lets be honest too - this thing couldn't keep with a Meteor 350 so there is no uncontrollable excuse on the planet thats going to wash.
@SirNarax
Жыл бұрын
@@crudboy12 I don't have direct experience with these particular bikes but it is also possible that Sondors did that because of how electric motorcycles deliver their power rather than how much. Electric motors can put their power down much faster than a ICE motor can and that can and has caused issues for others. Although I think it is more likely that this is just a case of Sondors playing games with the spec sheets. I am not EV apathetic as a matter of fact I am planning on getting an EV. I also think the Sondors is a decent bike but they have already demonstrated themselves to be somewhat untrustworthy. Conjecture of course I know nothing.
I ride a Meteor 350 myself as someone who only just first bought a motorcycle last summer, and I love it. I don't have nearly the time or the distance spent on the bike I'd like to at this point between a bad leg injury, a colder than usual winter, and now a bunch of road construction repaving my entire street -- but I am so eager to spend time in the saddle this year and develop my skills and confidence. What little time I have been able to spend on the bike has been lovely. Every now and then I even go out to the garage just to sit on it, or sit and look at it. Ari had it right in the conclusion, it has so much charm and presence for a fairly small little bike, and while I'm riding it at least I'm not at all bothered by relatively high weight or low power for its size; it's comfortable, it's pleasant, it's fun, it's surprisingly light and nimble feeling to maneuver. Of the five bikes in the video before and after the tests I stand by my choice and love my little RE, and I was quite happy actually that watching the video didn't sway me at all in my decision it made me even more confident that while each of the bikes is a great choice and the right bike for someone I already have the best of the five options possible for me.

I also think it would have been interesting to swap out the Metor with either the Classic 350, Hunter, or Himalayan, but I think for this test they wanted to have a cruiser, sportbike, ADV, dual-sport, and electric. As the owner of several bikes including a beefy 1250 GSA, I'm still jumping on my Classic and Himalayan to have fun. I think RE is on a roll with things and the US market is really just now opening up for them.

I have a '22 himi and I ❤ it. I put 1500 miles on it in the first month I owned it. My understanding is that RE is coming out with either a 450 or 650 as an update. I hope that they keep them oil-cooled thumpers with NO tech. I get complements on my bike all the time from old guys that think it is an old bike. They can't believe it when I tell them it's a '22.

@@shannonkerr2313 That's the USP of RE. Classic design language.
11:14 I want to mention that I had a friend crash his Meteor 350 at just 40kmph, but on the right side. His repair bill came up to 75k Indian Rupees approx (a third of the cost of the bike). The whole exhaust, both master cylinders and the metal parts added up big time. Meanwhile my Yamaha R15 crashed at 80kmph and I spent less than 4k INR because the fairings kept the pricey bits away from the tarmac.

@@jrodracing70 Pleasure's 100% mine, Jen! Awesome work by you and the team on this video!
This was really entertaining to watch and kudos for comparing the overall experience and capability of these bikes in total !!
The pick up test was very helpful thank you guys so much
Absolutely wonderful video, the best part was seeing the whole gang together having a blast. More team videos like this!
Dang I love this episode even better than the last! How do you guys consistently knock it out of the park with the quality content! Really awesome job showing off how fun beginner bikes can be!
Nice to see more of the team in a CTXP! The fact that Zach's foot-push start actually helped is amazing XD Also that drop from the stoppy at 19:00 sounded like a bicycle lol, I really wish more electric motorcycles were better😭
Another great video! And having all 5 together was awesome! A lot of fun to watch!
Loved the challenges in this video, thanks to the whole team for making such great content for the motorcycle community!
I love the videos y’all have been making lately, especially Ari’s ASMR bike restorations 🛠️. It’s good to see motorcycle content that really drives home the point that no matter what you’re riding, it’s always fun just to be out on two wheels, especially with good company. ❤
One of my favorite channels and definitely the best place to buy all things motorcycle. You guys are fun and so knowledgeable your passion shines through.
This was an awesome video. It kept my attention the entire time and was just awesome! WE NEED TO SEE MORE OF Patrick, Jen, and Spurgeon!!
Hands down one of the best videos on youtube at the moment, almost perfect review (other than the selection of bikes, but ok under 6k), nice hosts, nice challenges. Great work guys!!!!!
17:03, Jen's build up and then her laugh after she wins against the sondors was the highlight of my week. I rewatched that like 5 times and laughed so hard each time. Omg that was awesome and hilarious. Great camera angle too. That never works out usually but it did this time. Kudos to the person who placed Jen's camera.
You guys have clearly mastered the art of keeping your viewers hooked irrespective of the motorcycles you are riding. Simple, authentic and pure motorcyclists for the win!
This was actually a great test with comprehensive and consistent results! Thoroughly enjoyed it!
This was the best. Loved the format and would absolutely enjoy more entry level side by sides. It really illustrated the strengths, weaknesses, and expectations in a way that realistically makes sense. Thanks.
Another amazingly well-produced video. I loved it, thanks for making it!!
Huge Zach, Ari and Spurg fan!! Love this collaboration with all of our favorite Revzilla creators. The video shots from all of the different riders was excellent. And challenges were hilarious and entertaining. This was great.
That was one of the most watchable videos your team has ever done, very enjoyable, interesting and fun! Even a non-motorcyclist would be impressed!
Another great production from CTXP! And it was awesome to see Jen, Patrick,, and Spurge in the video (as well as Zack and Ari of course). Keep up the awesome work.
Great video, as usual... when I see there's a new one from Revzilla I already expect it to be entertaining and a learning piece. Keep them coming, guys! Greetings from Brazil!
Loved the cheerful nature of this entire video. Do more like this one! Good team, great mood.
I love this series. The Alaska CTXP nudged me towards buying a ct125. I wish more people would experience what 'small' bikes have to offer.
I got a G310GS because I wanted to try a little bit of every kind of riding, and I'm really glad I did. It's not the fastest or the offroadiest bike, but it has done everything I've asked it to with no complaints.

The 310 unfortunately suffers in the same area the Himalayan does, HP. You're never going to win a speed race with either of them, but they are great bike choices. I've been riding for over 40 years now and still find myself on my smaller bikes more often than my big GSA for a lot of tasks.
This format is cool, especially showing the differences in the intro. Kudos! Keep it up! Godbless you guys!
This was awesome...seen a lot of comparo videos but this one takes the cake....awesome content, awesome bikes, awesome riders and awesome angles and awesome editing...great job guys!!
I had my heart set on a ninja 400 as my first bike, ended up getting a second hand Honda CBR250R. And then I couldn’t decide between the ninja400 or the meteor 350 as a second bike, this just made that choice even harder! 😂

Don't use logic, use emotions.
While there is a place for this category of bikes, whenever I'm talking to someone thinking about getting into riding, my usual suggestion is to buy used. Usually you can keep it for a year, put some miles on it, and when you are ready to upgrade, sell it for nearly the same money that you paid for it. many people don't realize that bikes hold value much better than cars do, but the transition from new to used still comes with a good chunk of depreciation.

There's a sort of comfort in knowing your bike is new from the dealer, still under warranty, and you can go through the dealer no questions asked for all sorts of maintenance needs and part replacement and so on. As well as not needing to wonder what the previous owner did or did not do to the bike during their time with it. Especially as a new rider without the experience on bikes and around bikes, there are a lot of extra potential pitfalls buying used. BUT obviously you're right there are very many great used bikes similar to (or even exactly for the four gas machines) the bikes in the video, and you can get them for a lot cheaper than buying the new one. There's effectively a huge surcharge for that confidence and convenience at the dealership as opposed to buying second-hand.
Im suppose to be studying for finals but instead I'm watching the beginner bike shoot out...Loving this episode. Yes like someone mentioned, definitely get the group together more often.
Love seeing the whole team out there! Great video!
wish you guys also included a "off the bike manouvering" test as well as pointing out comfort and confidence when riding in situations (twisties, urban, offroad) other than that, great video, was a joy to watch and its always good to get new people into riding with good recommendations
I actually got to ride the Meteor 350 on my last trip to India and was pretty impressed with how much Royal Enfield has improved from what they used to be back in the day.
This is what we like! Having fun and testing our bikes with our friends! One big biker family. ❤ this keep it up 💯
Nice to see everyone out having fun!
It's tough to put into words how well you all do these things. The trips up to Alaska, taking old bikes only off road, carrying them across pavement. I'll be doing a piece called "A to Z - The Joys of Motorcycling." As in Ari to Zack....
Amazingly fun video setup, so good to see Zach and Ari again! PS the writers need a raise for those great titles ;)
This team creating genius content time and time again. One of the best on KZread and in the industry. Thank you so much.
A+ well done, even pulled this up on my phone when my dog asked to go out. Couldn't stop watching.
Another CTXP gem. What a great way to compare motorcycles. What a team of riders to inspire us! RevZilla has, yet again, raised the bar for Moto journalism. For me, I'll take the Ninja 400. Patrick proved it can do everything!
When the video started, I was already rooting for the Ninja. As a former Ninja 300 owner, I was truly astounded by the 400's performance and overall usability. Needless to say I was happy to see it won, right? LOL Thanks for another excellent video, guys!
I thought it to be a normal , boring comparison video...but what a treat I was surprised with !! Great great vid team!
Great video guys. Enjoyed that immensely.
What good time you must have had on that last race. What a great CTXP.
I love RevZilla. I buy everything i can there because of the support they give back to us through these videos, the fests they participate in and common tread.
Loved and enjoyed this video so much. Thank you!!
Great concept, entertaining and informative execution! I think that with the choice of tests, the scoring only really shows how "compromised" the two bikes in last place are; or rather, how much more focused they are in their respective niches. The Honda is soft and friendly for trail and city use and the Royal Enfield is intended to be more of a laid-back "vintage experience" on a budget. Neither are really the peak of today's do-it-all machines, but certainly each represents much of what bikes do best and also offer a slightly different flavour from the norm. The Sondors coming mid pack probably shows that electric really works for an everyday bike, amazing actually. Ultimately, the fact that the Ninja won shows that the old maxim in biking still holds true: he who has the most power, stays out front :D
Please bring this series back again - would really love to see some more contenders like the KTM duke 390/390 adventure, z400, etc. Also, please highlight reliability here because some bikes might actually win the competition based on reliability alone.
That was truly entertaining and a lot of fun to watch. One of your best. Keep up the good work. Cheers!
Such a fun and informative video. Watched all the way through, that's how good the video is.
legitimately impressed at how fast y'all took the Enfield and the Ninja through those whoops hahahaha
I hope Ari and Zack never leave Revzilla. They are really the soul of the videos
you guys flood us with useful information, truly thank you
This was a lot of fun to watch! Keep it up
I did my riding classes and exam on a Ninja 400. Super cool and super fun but also super uncomfortable for me. I never knew of the Sondors or RE Meteor 350. They look nice, I'll have to try them sometime!
Man I was so confused what to buy as my new bike. Massive thanks to Revzilla
Wonderful comparison and the best message to give for beginner bikers in the end
enjoyed this as much as you guys appeared to! y’all are a fun bunch to watch 😂
